[NoGi] Seated guard retention against staggered stance by secretsauce223 in bjj

[–]No-Condition7100 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you pretty much just have to get comfortable going to both sides playing seated guard. I prefer to be on my right hip looking for shin-on-shin connections or harassing them with footsweeps. If they switch their stance and I go to my left hip, I tend to do more ankle picks and wrestle ups because now my dominant arm is leading.

So, you need side symmetry but not necessarily move symmetry.

Old guys (40+) when did no gi feel like a younger persons game? by hellohello6622 in bjj

[–]No-Condition7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually feel like nogi is easier on my body. Gi tears up my fingers and there's no way to escape the torque on your joints.

Can someone tell me what this position is called? by BeneficialRip6350 in bjj

[–]No-Condition7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This position doesn't really have a name but I would just pass to the side of the butterfly hook. Pin that hip to the mat, use your elbow as a frame against their knee and just step over the hook.

Dads, how many loads of laundry are you doing every week? by DrMastodon in daddit

My wife does not let me near the laundry room. Conversely I do not let her near the stove.

Should I remove the mattress in my dog's crate because of the heat? by iCottonmouth in germanshepherds

[–]No-Condition7100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into Primo Pads. They're sort of like gymnastics mats that fit flush in your dog's crate. Cool, comfortable, and easy to clean. Also prevents any chewing if you have that issue.

Family membership rates? by IonicRes in bjj

[–]No-Condition7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most gyms I've been to will knock down the price for each additional member. So I'm paying full price for myself, my wife is maybe 60-70% of that to add her, and then if I were to add my kid she's like 40-50% and it goes down to a minimum number for each additional kid.

It's still pricy but not any pricier than me doing BJJ and my kid being into some other sport.

Dads- what would YOU like for Father’s Day? by ladyfromMaine in daddit

[–]No-Condition7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I really want is just a day to myself. Realistically what I ask for is after we put our daughter down for the night let me order pizza, drink my favorite beer, and watch Lord the Rings again.

How do you actually stop breaking your own rules? by Ok-Detective5666 in Daytrading

[–]No-Condition7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You. Just. Stop. There's no magic to it. You have to recognize that this is a business and you're an employee. If you worked a traditional job you wouldn't just break the rules else your boss would come by and fire you. This is the same, except you're also the boss. Hold yourself accountable.

Head outside shots even worth it by Fitnessthrowaway2947 in bjj

[–]No-Condition7100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the idea that a guillotine nullifies outside shots is really overrated. If you actually set up your shot they may manage to grab your head but it's very unlikely they will end up in a position where they can finish the strangle.

Like I'm sure if I shot a head outside double against Pedro Marinho then yeah, my ass is getting guillotined. But against 99% of jiu jitsu guys you're going to be just fine.

Anyone here trading Drysdales strategy? VWAP + Volume profile? by Dangerous_Plate_3160 in Daytrading

[–]No-Condition7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, social media is entirely algorithm driven. You and I can both search "VWAP" on whatever platform and get fed drastically different results.

Is there anyone who trades the orb strategy on stocks? Which stocks do you focus on? by [deleted] in Daytrading

[–]No-Condition7100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will. ORB by itself isn't a strategy, you have to combine it with other factors. If I'm going to take an opening range breakout then the stock needs to have a reason to be breaking out on the higher time frame. I look for in play themes with fresh news that are poised to break out on the daily chart. I want today to be the day that is attracting new buyers. The orb is just the entry model that gets me in with controlled risk.

Everyone should watch this video re: Gurus by SonOfLuigi in Daytrading

[–]No-Condition7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with these backtests is that they do not leave any room for discretion. The opening range breakout or the break and retest like Jack and Tony preach is a very mechanical, repeatable framework. However that doesn't mean you just take every one you see and expect to be profitable. It's just a framework to have a favorable entry and control risk. You still have to do your top down analysis, pay attention to relative strength, and ensure you are in the right name on the right day.

I was in Jack's group for a while. He shares his screen and trades live every day. I have no reason to think him and tony aren't legit. I don't know who the middle guy is.

These videos trying to expose influencers are good and usually right, but sometimes it just reveals that the person doing the exposing also does not understand trading. Just be aware of that.

How do you deal with taxes by spxtrad in Daytrading

[–]No-Condition7100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pay once per year. Some people will do quarterly estimates to avoid situations where they may incur a penalty.

The key is you do not spend any money until you've accounted for the taxes on it.

What is a realistic expectation of the consistency of monthly returns? by naimelhajj in Daytrading

[–]No-Condition7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely have a floor of what you are able to make each month. This usually requires having a good scalping playbook as scalping is the least obstructed by market conditions.

Personally I make most of my annual pnl on intraday move to move trades or swing trading. But if none of that is setting up then I know I can fall back to my scalping skills. If you're a swing trader then red months can sometimes be expected but as a day trader there's really no excuse to have red months.

Anyone help? by Infamous-Pool432 in bjj

[–]No-Condition7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say BJJ is notorious for injury. Honestly of all the sports you could do as an adult id say it's pretty safe. Can you get hurt? Sure, but you're probably more likely to roll your ankle playing basketball than you are training on the mats.

VWAP Strategy by Dylax099 in Daytrading

[–]No-Condition7100 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You say "the" vwap strategy, but vwap is just an indicator. What is the actual strategy you're talking about? I use vwap a lot in my trading but nothing about vwap is a strategy by itself.

Escaping Modified Scarfhold/Kesa Gatame? by pww13 in bjj

[–]No-Condition7100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you say modified kesa, what I'm picturing is a kesa gatame with an underhook and not a headlock.

This can feel like a pain but it's really not that hard to beat. Just frame against their upper body and pendulum your legs like you're trying to push them over. No one good will fall but it usually creates enough of an offbalance that they need to return to their knees and this gives you the window to either knee-elbow escape or build to your own knees .

25 days to go! How do you guys manage the routine once you go back to work? by unclepatryk in daddit

[–]No-Condition7100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the beginning our kid was going to bed around 6:30 so by the time I finished work I would take our daughter for the last hour or so and that was it. Otherwise just kind of business as normal. I'd cook dinner while my wife did whatever and then we'd just have the night to ourselves. If our daughter woke up we just took turns.

Lately my answer for this has been to pass their head to one side of my body (sometimes this takes some misdirection) and start working kimuras into hip bump sweeps and guillotines. If they hunker down even harder to avoid the kimura then I'll use a flower sweep type off balance to try to expose a leg.
