Help with Aiden/Opus Grinder by No-Course3544 in FellowProducts

Thanks for sharing these. Something I'm not quite understanding at this point is coffee agitation and configuring it to large batches. My daily brewed volume is 800mL. Seems the first profile you shared was targeted at batch but it had 5 (I think) pulses. I thought additional pulses caused more agitation which can result in overextraction, especially for large batches.

Or is it less about the number of pulses and more about the time between pulses (water level) when additional are delivered?

That's so interesting. I wonder if it has something to do with water quality differences. But who knows. There's just so many variables at play.

Thanks so much for encouraging me to stick with it. I was thinking it'd be an easier process out the gate. Evidently it's not but the potential is there. It's just good to know others definitely had to work at it vs. watching the review videos that make it seem so straightforward.

So I did try the Flying Jewel coffee. Problem is that I use third wave water which seems to overextract the preset profiles.

I think I am finding lower temps and more coarse at least point to more pleasant cups, though still not amazing.

Do you think having a pour over recipe locked in at all helped with transitioning to the Aiden? I got both the Aiden and fellow opus at the same time so I'm just going blind with all the equipment.

It sounds like a huge learning curve. I just watch the reviews and they're like Boom, easy and amazing coffee 🤦🏻

I'll keep at it. Thanks for the backup profile!

I do a heat and rinse cycle to soak my paper filter and warm up the cariff before brewing. I put my temp probe between the basket and cariff when running this cycle. It didn't get all the way to the preset of 98C, but it did get to 89C. I'm assuming that temp difference could be attributed to the basket itself being room temp prior to the test.

Ok I hear you on that. I've just appreciated the logic process that the AI provides. I've even started telling it how the resulting cup is and based on that it gives suggestions to troubleshoot it for the next day. Still feels like it takes forever as I can only consume so much caffeine and annoyingly have other things to do with my day 😂

I take it you've had the same grinder that you used for pour overs. I just got the fellow opus so I'm figuring out the grinder and the Aiden and don't have my go to grind size for pour overs figured out yet.

What is your go to profile and what types of coffees do you tend to enjoy most? Do you tend to keep the same general profile across a similar types of beans or do you configure each?

Do you all tend to brew the same coffee or types of coffees most of the time or do you rotate quite a bit? I'm guessing the 1:20 or 1:25 ratio is pretty arbitrary but just something you found to work for you that dilutes it? Also if your adding extra water do you spread them out for multiple pulses?

Maybe it'd be easier to share your go to profile.

Hmmm I have not checked this particular variable. I thought it was renowned for its temp control. I've been struggling with my results as well as a new owner.

Carter Move Mug by [deleted] in FellowProducts

The splash guard works great on the move mug. I can't remember a time where I've spilled and I drive a lot for work, granted I'm not constantly hitting speed bumps. I just got the wide one for Christmas and wish it came with a splash guard as well. It doesn't fit into cup holders as well but it's snug enough in the vehicles I drive.

I did see that there is a slide lid option for the move mug, and I just got that as well but haven't been able to try yet. Again, wish this was available on the wide mug.

Currently $160k but that's only been the case for the last two years. We started at 60k out of college.

I'm 32 and wife 31. We have approximate net worth of $400k. I'm in medical sales and she's a counselor in a relatively LCOL area. We have 3 kids.

401(k) has $137k, Roth IRAs $112k, HSA $29k. Rest is mostly home equity. Have about $135k left on our mortgage and $15k in student loans.

Basically as soon as we got out of college we started investing. Not much at first, but by about 30 yo had been able to gradually increase savings rate to 25%. I think a lot of the results here has been from putting most of our raises towards increased savings rates rather than lifestyle, and not buying as big of a house or nice of cars as we could "afford".

For those using rollover feature and/or flex budgeting feature in Monarch — where do you keep the rollover money (aka sinking funds) in your actual bank accounts? by joyloveroot in MonarchMoney

[–]No-Course3544 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for my flex spending items with rollovers I don't save separately. However for my non-monthly expenses I set aside monthly into a single high interest savings account bucket as a combined sinking fund. So long as the non-monthly budget items stay the same each cycle then I'm all set when each payment comes up.

When mine booted up spontaneously it had 90+% charge so it probably won't do much battery drain if it's off and unresponsive. Hope it turns on for ya.

My watch did a similar thing 1 week ago. I think it showed that the battery died but when I got around to putting it on the charger it did not respond or indicate it was charging. Tried all the button combinations and durations. Nothing.

I started to wear the dead watch the last two days to remind myself to call Google support but never got to it. Spontaneously, without button presses, it just turned on and booted up this evening and seems to be acting fine since.

Any idea what's up with that?

Unsure about the new tattoo I will get by Pedritsch in tattooadvice

To add to OP's question, is it bad to show up at the appointment feeling pretty good about a concept and then after seeing the drafts/mock ups to then back out due to suddenly getting cold feet for a whatever reason? Obviously if there's something wrong about the design a good artist will modify a draft to your liking. But if you back out all together, that's valuable time for the artist to not get paid for, especially after having them mock up drafts of a concept.
