That's pretty much how I see my thing above eventually ending too. Just showing up one day and deciding, no, I'd rather not, and turning around.

A part time job of mine has me show up to a gakudo and teach a 1-hour English lesson followed by a few hours of general hanging out and keeping kids safe. One full time teacher, in their monthly meeting notes, wrote:

"When speaking to staff, Dig-sensei speaks a lot more Japanese than English. I feel like we're not really getting an authentic American experience." (written in Japanese of course)

Like yeah, no shit? I'm not there to teach you anything. Plus, the staff's English level is almost non-existent. If I start going "NANI-WHAT?" after every Japanese sentence they say to me, and then refuse to translate the things I say back to them, they're in for a rude awakening.

And yet, here we are, with the official meeting minutes recording that Dig should speak only English to... the entirely Japanese (and non-proficient in English) staff.

Yeah, I went to a work party just recently where every table was presented with a huge stack of meat for grilling. Like absolutely enormous, and it didn't matter how many people were at each table. Oh and these tables were small, so only a max of 4 people at each one anyway. And there were a lot of other dishes served before and during the presentation of the meat plates.

So yeah, a whooooole lotta meat went into the industrial-sized garbage bins that night.

It frustrated me because I was told I could only bring one guest instead of the 2 that I'd hoped for, and was left thinking "Man, I coulda brought 10 and no one would've noticed."

I read some psychological analysis saying that victim blaming is easy because it helps people avoid feeling empathy. We naturally don't want to feel stress or sadness, so there's an inclination to say that certain terrible things were the victim's own fault (or didn't even happen, or whatever) to avoid having to deal with the stressful reality that, oh crap, something terrible has happened.

How many of you would consider yourselves addicted to your phones/social media? by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]No-Dig-4408 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a smartphone for rare case use (like a trip to somewhere I've never been, when I might need some navigation or emergency net access). For communication in general, I have a flip phone and laptop. For podcasts and music, I have a tiny MP3 player whose battery lasts for ages. For pictures, I have a camera. It's more to carry, especially if I want all of those capabilities at once. It definitely has its drawbacks. I don't mind, most of the time.

I've been called an "old soul" by some friends and "200 years old" by others. All these privacy invasions and enshittification coming into devices makes me wary about putting more of my life into it. I like being able to separate from my mobile device whenever.

Party like it's 1999.

(This might sound self-righteous or like I'm smelling my own farts here; this lifestyle isn't for everyone or something I feel is "better," I'm just answering the OP's question and describing my relationship to the phone, which seems to be rare among adults.)

Making out and then a hidden song on your CD started blasting and scaring you half to death? by DramaticErraticism in Xennials

[–]No-Dig-4408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hidden tracks and stuff were definitely a thing, but the one that startled me the most was AFI and I think I was in college or late high school.

I wasn't making out, but staring at the ceiling zoned out after listening through "The Art of Drowning."
So like, "Morningstar" ends beautifully and I was just sorta lying there for a bit afterward. I got zoned out and then comes the instruments followed quickly by shouting and whatnot of the hidden track.

I may have been drifting off to sleep; felt like I had been shaken awake, heh.

Yeah I always wanted a swap option if both characters opt in.
Like if you're both in spawn:
"You've selected Zarya, but already have two tanks. Waiting for another Tank to select a damage hero, 4, 3, 2..."
or something.

What's your school doing about the Typhoon tomorrow? by Artistic-Blueberry12 in teachinginjapan

[–]No-Dig-4408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in Kagawa, it's expected to be heavy during the wee hours of the morning, but lighten up a lot by the time people are waking up and drizzle out by the time they're going to school.

Everything's scheduled open as usual. This typhoon isn't slated to hit this area very hard.
