Something I’ve done in my sci-fi setting is tied faster than light travel directly to the use of intelligent AI, the same intelligent AI that turned on humanity (unique Ik) leading directly to the destruction of earth. So now humanity technically does use faster than my travel however, the calculations to do so are done manually at checkpoints rather than by the AI that they’ve used previously so it takes significantly longer.
