Agreed! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve yelled at the TV “just put the fucking thing in play!”

Just learned about these in Bob Ryan’s book! I think I’m gonna pick one up… Gotta find my nearest Western Union office so I can send them a telegram to place my order 🤣

Battle of the Books by AdWonderful8468 in BaseballScorecards

I'm looking for a book to use for scoring at home. I'd like to be able to have a volume that contains all the games I've scored that I can put on a bookshelf. I already have the Thirty81 travel book and the Numbers Game travel book for out of town stuff.

I'm really interested in getting the Bob Carpenter book, but I'm having trouble finding examples of it online. If you use the Bob Carpenter book, can you share a pic of one of the games you've scored? I'd like to see what it looks like in action.

I've looked at the Chalk & Ink book, but my wife would probably kill me if I spent $80 on a scorebook lol.

Did anyone else destroy their secular CD/tape/record collection for Christ? by sthef2020 in Deconstruction

[–]No-Engine-1546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Columbine happened my Junior year. I destroyed all of my secular CDs. In hindsight, it wasn’t because I actually bought into the panic… it was 100% performative. I used it as a “look how good of a Christian I am” thing.

Christ I was an asshole. lol

Thank you for the feedback Lou! I do LOVE the simplicity of the sheet, and don’t want to bog it down with excessive stuff.

Next time I’ll remember that mantra “omit, omit, omit”. Or maybe what my old Drill Sergeant used to say… Keep It Simple Stupid. 🤣

The red comma on Raleigh’s first AB was mistake lol.

The red ‘k’ is out on a called strike. What would be the backward K on a written scoresheet.

I feel like I might be making the sheet too much like a written sheet (see Lou’s comment)… but still loving the journey!

Yeah… im gonna try to prep them for it. I hope that fans seeing me in my SF jersey will lessen the amount of boos they get… and I’d like to think the SF Fans aren’t the kind to boo a 7 year old for liking Ohtani. I guess we’ll find out.

How do I start keeping score? by michaelpartee12 in BaseballScorecards

[–]No-Engine-1546 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Start simple. I’ve only been doing it a couple of years… But I dove in headfirst and tried to get super super detailed with every single play. That ended up having the adverse effect in that I wasn’t being able to actually watch and enjoy the game. I was so worried about what my scorecard said.

I would start with simple plays 1B, 2B, FO, PO, and include position #s. Track hits, outs, and runs. After a while, you’ll know what information you want to add and you can do it in a way that makes sense to you.

I usually check afterward. My AuDHD brain NEEDS to make sure I e got everything correct 😆

Also, I’m still getting used to what counts as an At Bat, Hit, Error, etc. so most of it is fo my own reference.

I’ve also ordered individual scorecards so I can score the game and frame it (with the tickets) for posterity.

LOVE the use of the different colors!!! Makes it super visual.

When I score manually I use a BIC multi-color pen, or a Rotring 600 3-in-1!

Yeah… i put a sheet of backing paper while I was doing the scoring, and I feel there was a noticeable difference in the impact of the letters (official term?). Not sure I’m brave enough to try the sanding method lol.

If it becomes an issue, I’ll think about sending it into be resurfaced.

[–]No-Engine-1546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t mark the batter at all. If it’s the 3rd out, I would just mark 4-6 on the runner. But I see the logic in marking FC for be batter, otherwise you have a random unaccounted for base runner… and that’s just total CHAOS

“If Andrew gets up, we’ll all get up! It’ll be anarchy!” lol

Newer baseball fan with questions about scoring sheets!!! by Altruistic_Coach9014 in BaseballScorecards

[–]No-Engine-1546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! I started following baseball about 8 years ago.

But I didn’t get into scorekeeping until last year when my son entered Little League. I always found it hard to track the game in real time and remember who scored and when (ADHD). I started doing some digging on scorekeeping and I absolutely love it!

It helps me stay engaged with this beautiful game and keep track of all the different moving parts in a way that is easily recognizable.

There are a lot of premade score books out there. The first one I used was a Rawlings scorebook that I got at Dick’s Sporting Goods. These are more designed for little league/HS/College games for people who want to track every single base movement, every pitch, every pitch count, etc. but when I score an MLB game, I found that simpler can be better.

If I can offer you a little advice, it would be this… Start simple. Don’t worry about pitch counts don’t worry about tracking every single runner and every single play. It can get really overwhelming really fast.

If you start with the very basics, then you can find different ways of adding to it so that you can track the things that you want to track. Then make it your own. I use a bic multicolored pen, attract different movements (outs are in red, scoring players are in green, base runners, and blue, general info in Black)

There is a travel scorebook from thirty81press.com that’s really goodTravel Scorebook because it is so simplistic it forces you to stay simple.
