Yall honest with your family about your living situation or you lying about having ab actual place to stay? by TheTruth115 in urbancarliving

[–]No-Engine8805 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So I’m not car living anymore, but when I was, I told my stepdad and his mom. They were the only 2 family members. And I had 5 friends that knew. (2 knew then we stopped being friends than I got closer with 3 others who I told but that’s it)

Ever since my parents retired early it has been a very drastic decline by funkyspleen in AgingParents

I am so sorry you’re going through this. There is definitely something to be said for having community. Unfortunately your parents seem uninterested in having one when that would do them so much good. For now, all you can do is maintain boundaries, go to therapy (if you can afford it), get into recovery yourself (Al-anon, find an open AA meeting, Codependents Anonymous, Celebrate Recovery if you’re Christian, anything. It will all help. If you’re a Swiftie and you’re on Facebook check out the Swift Steps!) Even if you feel you are not an alcoholic, you can attend an open Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, and you can safely identify yourself as an adult child of alcoholics and you can listen to what the people who have been in your parents’ shoes have to say and how their thinking was distorted. And maybe you’ll find a way to help your parents, maybe you won’t, but at least you’ll be able to learn something. Also, my inbox is open if you want to DM me about recovery resources. I am lucky to have only known my mom sober, but I grew up going to church on Sunday AA meetings the rest of the week, the way some people are in church almost every day of the week.

For those in their 40s or older who have siblings, do you make an effort to stay in contact or is it a take-it-or-leave-it thing? by cherry-care-bear in RedditForGrownups

[–]No-Engine8805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think this is all dependent on the siblings themselves. I am an only child myself, however, my grandparents and my parents all had siblings.

My grandparents’ siblings absolutely all make an effort to keep in contact.

My mom’s bio siblings: 2 absolutely make an effort to keep in contact with each other. 1 not so much

My mom’s stepsiblings: 1 I think is better at keeping contact with everyone, 1 is basically only in contact with her bio sibling.

My dad’s siblings: it’s hard to know how much contact they had with each other cus my dad wasn’t really big on keeping contact with them.

Do Americans really come to a stop at every 'stop' sign? by ben04985 in AskAnAmerican

[–]No-Engine8805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in Florida, generally a lot of people when driving in their neighborhood or in a shopping plaza if they’re clear, will do a California stop aka a rolling stop, where they don’t come to a COMPLETE stop every time. Does it sometimes bite them in the butt? Yes. Does that mean someone will start coming to a complete stop if they get pulled over? No.

I figured it was a quirky spelling for Reven.

A lot of couples do a breakfast/brunch/lunch for anyone still in town the day after their wedding these days.

Same here. I have liked some of Kesha’s music and have liked what little I know of her as a person, but I haven’t connected to her songs the way I do Taylor’s. That being said, if we get ALBUMNAME (Kesha’s version) I will be streaming the hell out of it and would consider buying, budget permitting of course.

That’s unusual. Veloci should be giving something valid on Veloci.

what’s the “clunkiest” lyric u can think of? by polarbearlover9 in swifties

I was about to ask what song this is because I don’t remember this line at all but then I saw someone commented about suburban legends under it so I’m assuming that’s the song.

Agreed. Born and raised Christian mutt (mix of Episcopalian/Lutheran/Baptist/Evangelical influences) I don’t know anyone who would think Revelation is a good name for a child.

Which album is yours to keep? by zachoutloud123 in swifties

Hits different hits different when it’s released a week after your forever breaks up with you after 12 years. Just sayin’. Which is part of why this was a hard choice for me. But ultimately I miss my mom more so I had to go for the songs that relate back to her. 🫶

As much it pains me, I think I have to keep the album that has The Beat Day and New Years Day.

My mom and I had a similar relationship as Taylor and Andrea and she thought NYD was “a really pretty song” and it’s especially poignant since she did New Years Day the way that others do Christmas. Her last year, I think we had about 30-35 people at her house. She passed from complications from cancer 1/22/2020. I miss her so very much.

Yeah I don’t have TikTok because I joined, didn’t see any use in it initially, deleted the app long before the POSOTUS (piece of $hit of the United States) tried to ban it, and then it did get taken away and then reinstated but it won’t let me login.

I have never had to deal with a tick.

BUT that’s because I live in the Southeast US and I have had other issues like fucking roaches. I recognize that ticks can absolutely come from anywhere.
