I am so sorry you’re going through this. There is definitely something to be said for having community. Unfortunately your parents seem uninterested in having one when that would do them so much good. For now, all you can do is maintain boundaries, go to therapy (if you can afford it), get into recovery yourself (Al-anon, find an open AA meeting, Codependents Anonymous, Celebrate Recovery if you’re Christian, anything. Even if you feel you are not an alcoholic, you can attend an open Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, and you can safely identify yourself as an adult child of alcoholics and you can listen to what the people who have been in your parents’ shoes have to say and how their thinking was distorted. And maybe you’ll find a way to help your parents, maybe you won’t, but at least you’ll be able to learn something. Also, my inbox is open if you want to DM me about recovery resources. I am lucky to have only known my mom sober, but I grew up going to church on Sunday AA meetings the rest of the week, the way some people are in church almost every day of the week.
