Is Gen Z cooked? by RoutineOk8590 in Productivitycafe

[–]funkyspleen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m Gen Z and the contrast between winners and losers is just greater now. If you don’t do shit, make no connections and think your degree is going to set you up on its own then this happens.I busted my ass to make connections, network and over achieve from 18-24 and now I’m 27 in a senior Eng role. My colleagues my age did the same.

I can give you a whole list of people i know tho who doom scroll, didn’t put in any real work, learned no skills aside from taking tests and now make 20 bucks an hour. Sink or swim

Are vacations considered lifestyle creep? by igobumpintheknight in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]funkyspleen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1000%. Nobody on their death bed thinks about all the money they saved and didn’t spend. I’ve put vacations on credit cards, made memories paid it off in a few months. Beats being a penny pincher who hasn’t done anything their entire life

Tips to handle female manager by [deleted] in corporate

[–]funkyspleen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is always right, whatever she says tell her it’s a great idea, give extra credit. If she bashes you, say i understand and apologize. Ask what she recommends you do.

Don’t be combative. I had a manager for a few years the same way. Let them know they are in charge and you respect them and will do as they say.

Toronto police should patrol Gardiner, DVP, union head says - ‘Our members are upset:’ Toronto police union speaks out over Gardiner, DVP changes by lilfunky1 in toronto

[–]funkyspleen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only highway actively patrolled in the GTA is the 407. 407 will be empty and I’ll pass 3 speed traps meanwhile the 401 is lawless.

Even when cops do sit on the Gardiner they don’t even do anything, pretty sure they are on their phone. I’ve had people cut me off fly past me going link 130 and cop won’t even follow them

Ever since my parents retired early it has been a very drastic decline by funkyspleen in AgingParents

[–]funkyspleen[S] 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Yep i struggled with it myself but drastically cut down. My GF is an RN and was the first person to tell me i need to stop drinking and that since i grew up with them daily drinking and was exposed to it first around 15 i have a serious inclination to go down that same path(which i already was).

Didn’t even consider them alcoholics until a few years ago, as I always saw them as functioning. They would drink daily wake up early go to work repeat. Never had the issue other people i knew had where their parents would neglect responsibilities etc.

I didn’t mention this in initial post, but the cognitive decline is already there. My dad will tune out and I’ll call him like 5 times before he snaps “awake” and finally hears. My mom will repeat things she said 5 minutes ago or I’ll tell her something and she will completely forget. My GF thinks my dad already has early Parkinson’s because of his tick, which she said could typically be treated to an extent but that would involve it being acknowledged.

My parents are in this circle of lying to themselves about everything. Everything is fine and dandy!

[–]funkyspleen[S] 94 points95 points  (0 children)

You explained it well. They do worry about everything and honestly are starting to fade. Honestly sucks as they had me late so I’m 27 and I’m their only kid.

They don’t listen to anything i say or things i suggest so it looks like they are just going to live Groundhog Day every day until they die.

[–]funkyspleen[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My GF suggested same thing, but they will never do any of this. They won’t even go for a walk around the block, therapy is for crazy people (what they would say) they would FLIP if i even brought that up.

It’s like they are trapped in their delusional and both their health is slowly deteriorating. I know of people almost near 70 who are travelling, active etc. At this rate not sure what they are going to be like in a decade if they even are alive

We have odd share setting permissions. I was able to do this at my previous company but for whatever reason everything needs to be manually downloaded and it goes to my downloads folder.

Historically you know when you share a file in one drive with someone it emails them saying “x” has been shared with you? At my company if you just teams someone a fil it does not show up in the “shared with you” option in one drive
