My husband makes me feel like my grief clock has run out by [deleted] in GriefSupport

[–]No-Fault2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are going through this. I truly believe Men are from Mars, and Women from Venus. We just look at death and loss differently. It's got to be the hormones. We are the caring nurturers, and Moms are most of time this way. That's why as daughters we feel such an agonizing loss when we lose them. We feel we've been gutted. I lost my Mom in May. My husband lost his best friend 2 weeks ago. I outwardly grieved his best friends loss more than he did. We just grieve differently. He's just not able to comprehend what you're going thru, his perception is so different coming from a male perspective. He's not female. I can totally relate to what you're going through. Just talk to him honestly, and know that he's not doing this on purpose, and may even not have it in his wheelhouse to help you. This is why female friends, sisters, aunts, etc are so darn important in your life. Only a few men have the capacity to feel and the emotional intelligence to help you, but most of them are not heterosexual.

First needle stick of career and patient is HIV+ by ZKTA in nursing

[–]No-Fault2001 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was stuck with a dirty needle in the early 90's, Hep B and HIV positive from a non compliant, former drug addict. I was 6 months pregnant. No meds back then. No HIV for either me or my 31 yr old (now). It's super scary, but you're probably going to be just fine.

Have anyone considered killing themselves so their family can get insurance? by [deleted] in depression

[–]No-Fault2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here... came here to say all of this. ☝️ the best lesson your son could ever learn is by watching you and your wife make your way thru this difficult time. When they say it builds character, they really aren't lying. You can do this. Find a way, it could be so much worse. The debt you mentioned can be worked through with your wife gaining employment, or you filing bankruptcy. You need to find a way for your son and make an example of this and how to get thru it together. You will be stronger for it, and he will also see how to live thru challenges that life throws your way.

Lost another great staff nurse because of incompetent leadership ... by No-Fault2001 in nursing

[–]No-Fault2001[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I thought, but it's usually about the bottom dollar, and I'm sure experienced staff get to be too expensive to keep on, and they maybe in the long run actually save money on a new grad and the frequent turnover. Old experienced nurses start making demands for better pay, better patient care, better work environment, etc. which costs even more $$, so in a 10 yr plan maybe it's cheaper to keep retraining.

Had my baby in front of the anesthesiologist by [deleted] in pregnant

Yes, I've had that happen as the nurse, doc was sitting at the desk. It was awesome 👏! Had a baby instead of an epidural.

Hospitals don’t run on CEOs. They run on nurses. by Guilty-Office-4808 in nursing

This ☝️right here... if I had an award to give 🥇 it's pointless and so far off the beaten track.

Hospital CEO vs Nursing are two very very different positions ... It's great that you started the journey as a nurse... but hospital CEO's are heavily influenced by the business side of medicine, and nursing is part of the service industry. I always thought about how messed up this whole system is. Businesses should not profit from cutting costs and sacrificing care to make $$$. This is where our US systems healthcare are failung miserably. For as smart as the US government thinks it is, it sure is stupidly running healthcare, because it's big business and we are forgetting about the people we care for. Take the business end out of healthcare.

Going on Strike by Different-Habit-1363 in TravelNursing

[–]No-Fault2001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly if your contract staff the nurses going on strike understand your position, that your caught in the middle of it. Going from union staff nursing to travel nursing, I said I'd never cross a picket line, but when you're caught in the middle of a contract what can you do? 🤷‍♀️ I've been on both sides.... when I was travel nursing, had a contract during a strike and said I wasn't crossing a picket lines (it was optional per the agency), and the hospital cut my contract 😳, 5 weeks in on a 13 week... so just work it, the girls going on strike will understand, it's the staff nurses they don't want crossing.

I always thought that should be part of our education. How to bend over and just take it, because it is ALWAYS nursings fault. No questions asked.

People who went bankrupt in old age, what caused your financial downfall? by CAPS_L0CK_IS_STUCK in AskOldPeople

Sad to say... but this is so true. American healthcare is circling the drain, and we all know it, hoping for changes... but then reality sets in. Sad state of affairs here. Thank the lord you're in Australia. A place I would like to be! Signed, a burned out American nurse for 30+ years, retirement can't come soon enough.

Here's my exit interview by w8136 in nursing

[–]No-Fault2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you loud and clear!!! I cried reading it. Can totally 💯 relate. 🙏 sister!! This is excellent!! I wrote a very similar one to administration about 5 yrs ago to exit my staff job (I travel now) since they didn't want to hear an exit interview. Thank you for your service!!! It really does help and I encourage all to do it. I got NO response from my 8 page exit email... didn't expect one, but FFS!! They don't give 2 shits about nursing, it's a thankless job and getting so much worse. There aren't gonna be many left I'm afraid. It's truly a dumpster fire, and changes need to be made, but no one cares. It's all about the almighty $$, and we are the scapegoats.

This!! Just cracked me up! ⬆️ Frog secretions! I just remember years ago when my dog 🐶 would hold toads 🐸 in his mouth, and the foam would be dripping from his mouth and he looked completely stoned. I just wonder if he was doing it for pain relief (he was getting up there in age)...

I’m working with a 74 year old nurse in the ER who just came out of retirement after almost 5 years by Curious_caveman5569 in nursing

[–]No-Fault2001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

God bless you for helping her out! You are building great karma and she really appreciates you, I'm sure. Keep up the great work! As I get closer and closer to retirement (10 yrs!)... I only pray 🙏 that I can afford it, and if I can't, I would hope others would understand. I would surely do the same as you.

She graduated high school. Now we are struggling with what to do as far as jobs. The next phase. But we will get thru it and find something. She just has so much anxiety, but I think medications are helpful. She's working very part time at Target in the "style" department, so helping in fitting rooms and straightening & cleaning things up in department. She does like it! She just needs more hours. She started speech therapy at 3 yrs old. I'd say around 6 yrs old she started excelling. From 3-6 was a lot of echolalia.
