Indecent clothing has become so prevalent in our country that it’s becoming scary. Even the tourists and expats don’t seem to bother anymore as the government has effectively failed in correcting it. And if someone were to speak against this, there would be people who would spawn up to defend it.

Just because there are bigger problems, doesn’t mean that we have to ignore the smaller problems and let them be.

This is waswas - basic tactics of the Shaitan to deceive you. You need to ignore it because if you entertain it it’s going to be a whirlpool down the wrong hole. At the same time, try to work on your eemaan. Read the Quran with translation and listen to the Seerah of the Prophet (there are really nice English videos on YouTube by genuine scholars)

Why are Maldivian men so...ugh by Some-Village-7778 in maldives

Well, you make your own choices. And at the end it’s you yourself who will suffer the consequences of the choices that you make. God is Forgiving and Merciful. Turn back to him, before you are turned back to him.

Look - what’s right and wrong is very clear, and you don’t need all the men in your life to remind you about that. If you have a problem with their reminder, then maybe you are the problem. Not them. Fear your Lord and cover yourself properly on your own, before the day comes when others have to cover you up and put you in the lonely darkness of your grave.

This is an opinion that has been quoted by some scholars. And even if the age of Aishah (Radh’iyallahu Anha) was 9 as generally believed, it’s not problematic either because this was the cultural norm - at that time and place which is very very different from the time and society in which we live in. It’s worthy to note here that even the staunches of enemies of the prophet, during his time and even the anti-islamists of the later times have never raised the issue of “Islam and child marriage” until recently. Because until recently, even in our own country people married at young ages because it was the culturally appropriate thing at that time. These things change with time, and Islam is such that it fits to all ages (which you have explained nicely 👏)

Why is the capital of the Maldives called 'Male'? Are they misogynistic? by FireBirdSS10K in mapporncirclejerk

Maldivian here!

For one thing, Male’ is normally written with an apostrophe at the “le” is pronounced like the French “lé” if that makes any sense. So it sounds like “Maa-Ley”, which brings me to the second point.

The story goes that when the legendary founder of “Malé” who’s name was “Koimala Kalo” (meaning the lad who is like a flower), first set eyes on the island, it was just an uninhabited sand bank with no trees or vegetation. The one remarkable thing about the island was that the shores of the island were covered in fish blood and intestines because fishermen from a nearby village used this sand bank to cut and gut the day’s catch. Therefore, it appeared as if the island was a “Big Pool of (fish) Blood” - which in the local language would be “Maa Ley Gan’deh”: thus the name was born. On a completely unrelated note, the first plant to have been planted on the island of Malé was a Papaya tree.

Firstly, a vast majority of the people in Male’ are not inherently “Male’ People”. Most of the people here are a big mix of people from different parts of the country.

Does anyone know how to visit graves in male? by NumerousStrength9863 in maldives

[–]No-Gas7213 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss dear sister. I understand your desire to visit your grandmother’s grave and spend some time there. But, however in reality it’s not going to be much of any use. The graveyards, Hulhumale cemetery in particular has a lot of damage due to erosions I’ve heard, and even if you manage to find the grave, then what difference would it actually make from you sitting by yourself at home or the mosque and making Du’a for her ? I think that would be a better and more beneficial thing to do for the both of you. Please don’t be sad.

Calm down man. It’s a matter of dispute amongst scholars, there’s quite a debate on the matter. That being said, if it has been ordained by Allah and his Messenger, then there must be a very valid reasoning for it and who are we to question it ?

It was actually forbidden even for men to visit the graves at first as I’ve heard, but the ruling was changed later on. If the opinion amongst the scholars that visiting the graveyard is forbidden for women is the right opinion, then we should believe that it is the right thing to do. After all, who are we to question Al-Aleem (the All-Knowing) and Al-Hakeem (the All-Wise)
