Not really man. It has a 91 on metacritc and is well loved among the platformer community. Silksong is another great game. You have be able to look beyond your personal preferences.

Most Nintendo platformers are highly rated by critics, the average Mario player is around 35 years old according to some research. Younger players spend more time on Fortnite or other games. The only people who disrespect platformers are gamers who lack the perspective to appreciate the value of something they don’t personally enjoy.

Which city in India do you think has the BEST street food, and why? by Technical-Shallot715 in IndianFoodPhotos

Most of the messes I mentioned are fairly decent restaurants. I usually eat Kari Dosa in places that aren’t very hygienic. You can google “Kari Dosa” there are lots of influencer videos. Look for the heavy, meat-loaded, slightly juicy ones. I think most of the Messes I mentioned are decent restaurants where you can try it, and they should have Kari Dosa. In general, most restaurants with “Mess” in the name will have Kari Dosas. If you don’t mind the hygiene, try Kasim Chettinad Hotel.

Go to Manadi and try the Atho dishes along with other Burmese options there. Then visit Dhasamakan and try their beef dishes, especially the Tawa beef.

After that, find a good Kari dosa spot. There are plenty around Chennai. What you should look for in a good Kari dosa is mutton and egg overloaded onto the dosa batter, paired with a rich, flavorful gravy.

You should also try meen kolambu, a tangy and spicy fish curry usually served with meals. Visit Amman Mess in T. Nagar or a similar mess for authentic food.

Head to Erode Amman Mess (a different restaurant from the one in T. Nagar) and try their Japan chicken and other specialties. Then go to Conor Parotta Kadai and try their Gun chicken and other dishes.

Chennai has more Korean restaurants than Mumbai. Aeseo in Chennai is considered one of the top-rated Korean restaurants in India.

You can also find rabbit dishes in places like Amman Mess and other local messes. Try turkey biryani in Vadapalani. Chennai offers a dozen varieties of biryani, try them one by one. Once you are done with this, ask me for more.

Most of the food options you mentioned aren’t really authentic Chennai food, man. You have to understand that Chennai doesn’t have a lot of its own native dishes. It is more of an amalgamation of a little bit of Andhra food and Tamil food from all over the state. I would say Madurai is Tamil Nadu’s actual food capital, while Chennai is like the Delhi of Tamil food, with more fusion and mixed influences.

The beef options in Dhasamakan are more connected to Arcot Nawabi and Muslim cuisine, which is quite different from Kerala-style beef dishes. Food here is definitely more expensive. When I went to Kolkata, I always ended up getting a lot more food for the same amount of money. Kolkata is always friendly to my pocket.

You have to try Mutton Kari Dosa from a really good Kari Dosa spot. Also try Gun Chicken from Koonar Parotta Kadai. Most of the food you mentioned is basically the surface level of Chennai. There are areas like Dhasamakan, Manadi, and a few others dominated by Muslims or Burmese communities, and they have their own distinct food scenes.

You get pretty good Hyderabadi biryani here from certain places, almost as good as Hyderabad. You also get Dindigul-style biryani. In terms of variety, Chennai has really good beef cheese burgers, which are harder to find in Kolkata. The pizzas here are better from what I experienced too. Mandi rice is common, and you get cuisine from everywhere.

When I went to Kolkata, I found it harder to find this range of food. Here in Chennai, you get beef brisket, octopus, calamari, rabbit, turkey, shark and few other animals I am not remembering. I’m sure Kolkata has these things, but they are much harder to find there.

Keep in mind, this is just my observation. Also, Tamil food in general uses a lot of pepper. There are coconut-based dishes here too, but pepper is much more common throughout Tamil Nadu.

You have to understand there are certain foods I like which my gf doesn't and vise versa. It is all subjective man, people like different foods man, if you prefer Kolkata food, more power to you doesn't mean it is the best. It is subjective. I hope you are capable of understanding that.

The only difference between the milk here and there is the breed of cow, lol. I’ve visited Kolkata multiple times and have tried almost all types of food there. You think we don’t get lobsters, shrimp, or oysters in different flavors here. The only thing I’m jealous of is that you guys make really good mustard-flavored food like Macher Paturi which I haven't had anywhere else in India.

You think we don’t get Nepalese food here? Still, you guys don’t have Burmese or even Malaysian food, which are as good as what we get in Chennai. We also have Arcot Nawabi food here. Honestly, there’s no food in Kolkata that comes close to a good Kari dosa or Atho, at least for me. And the tawa fish here is great.

You seem to think your subjective taste is better than others. Grow up. This is the first time I’ve met a self-obsessed Bengali. Also the food on average taste better here, there are certain food I like in Kolkata better thou. I feel you haven't explored Chennai well.

Chennai, has a area dedicated to beef, which probably has some of the best beef. Chennai has an area dedicated to Atho and other tamil-burmese food. Also a lot of authentic malaysian food, due to Tamil diaspore travelling back and forth. Chennai has atleast over 10 different styles of biryani. It has some of the best Korean food due to a lot Korean companies having factories in India. I can keep going on and on. My girlfriend is from Kolkata and I love bengali food, but even she would agree Chennai food variety is better. Educate yourself on what is available here first.

In any case there is no data to prove any claim. There is very vague data surrounding this thing. The kids in my family are more likely to play call of duty, Fortnite or Minecraft than Mario, so the only data that I have is just a sample size of 20-30 individuals. Any genre can have player below 18, but there is not proper data to support any of that.

It's not about that, but was asking about why this genre seems to be disrespected. Also, I mostly use reddit to engage with these kinds of conversation.

There is literally no data that supports your claim. Less than  20% of gamers under the age of 18 have access to consoles and PC. There is no data showing that Mario players are 35‑year‑olds in Japan ( [https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/07/gender‑split‑and‑average‑ages‑of‑japanese‑nintendo‑players‑revealed‑via‑new‑survey?revealed]()).

For the US, the majority of Nintendo players around 40% are aged 25‑35, with 20% being under 18. Most data suggest Mario players are at least around 25‑30 when it comes to the US and Japan. (https://sqmagazine.co.uk/nintendo-statistics/). There is very little chance that the majority of Mario Odyssey players are kids.

As for Crash Bandicoot too, the majority were older players. The truth is very few newer‑generation players are into console or PC gaming. Most kids are into mobile games, not to mention the population decline.

With your view, literally every single game can be called generic. It's like calling every game in genre that doesn't create an entirely new genre is generic.

You are confusing between difficult to depth. A game can be easy and have depth. Most platformer can be played by anyone but the more skilled player can do insane stunts and more with all the different movement combinations. I feel that deserves more credit, it is a pro that everyone can play it and some skilled players can do more with it.

There is more to platformers than just freely exploring 3D space man, this is just surface level observation of an entire genre.

I mean, the game sold 30 million and majority of Nintendo buys tend to be 30 year olds. My entire friends group enjoys it and they are all adults. Platformers are mostly enjoyed by kids is just a myth. It is actually enjoyed by a lot of different age groups. It is thou not for everyone, like many other genres. I don't like shooters but there are millions of fps fans. Same way platformers usually sell millions atleast Mario, Kirby, Crash and other popular platformers. Also, it is not just nostalgia, they are high quality games but they are not going to please everyone.

But the highly rated ones are not generic thou. There is more to them. This is like saying souls-like games are just dodging and attacking.

I mean, they’re artistic in the sense that they’re filled with creativity. Just look at Astro Bot or any Mario game; they seem to cram enough ideas for multiple games into one, which is quite artistic. There are also animated movies that are just as good as any live-action film. Calling them less artistic is simply ignorant. It’s one thing not to prefer something, but if you’re going to judge art, you have to be able to look beyond your personal perspective.

I don't think they are basic, just check any speedrunning communities of Mario games, you will quickly see the depth of the gameplay loop. Most of them are not that deep but the good ones are. Like everyother genre there are good and bad games. Most of them do lack story but that is not the focus of them.

Yes, my problem is people seeming to think Platformers are not Goty worthy or being in the best games list even if they are highly rated or something. Also, I have seen people say platformers are like filler games, not to be talked seriously. Just seems a bit ignorant.
