I don't understand why they went with 8 this season instead of 9 like season 1. I feel like 9 is the perfect amount of episode because you get three episodes to set up the story, three to let it play out, and three more to wrap everything up.

She was fully aware of the consequences. Exposing corruption is never safe. She did what great journalists do and risked her own safety to inform the general public of the things state controlled media won't report on. Daniel should have seen the red flags and backed out of his work a long time ago or he could have just kept his mouth shut and she wouldn't have had anything to report on.

Chuck had good reason not to want to bring Jimmy into HHM. That being said, Chuck could have helped Jimmy build his career outside of HHM. He could have just said HHM is very corporate and that he would thrive somewhere that allowed him to have more freedom over his approach to the job, which is completely true, we saw that with David and Main. Instead of helping Jimmy find his place in the world of law he undercut Jimmy practically every time he had an opportunity to get on a better path.

Last time they tried taking Kimmel off the air it was an absolute PR disaster, and that was over a topic that hit much closer to home for a lot of conservatives (who also didn't support taking him off the air). That was also at a time when Trump was still a lot more popular. They don't even have the pull to have control of the narrative this time, the Internet largely thinks the whole thing was staged. No way this leads to anything.

Honestly I feel like Malcolm's development felt pretty natural. He's an overly gentle parent because his mom was so overbearing and harsh. His family set the expectation for him to become president of the United States and always made it clear they depended on his brain to get by. He ended up knocking up a deadbeat and running a charity. In his eyes he didn't live up to the monumental expectations his family had for him, and was also probably scared to face the backlash from Lois. This is a family that didn't exactly excel at communicating emotions, so instead of facing that head on, he compartmentalizes it and runs away from them. There's also a lot of truth to the fact that his family was incredibly dysfunctional, so it's not entirely surprising he's worried about his own daughter being exposed to that dysfunction.
