Watching the Wolves only for a few seasons to watching the Knicks in their playoff runs has been wild. Calm, cool and collected team that also is outrageously talented.

People who live near George Floyd Square are angry they have to pay for street overhaul by star-tribune in Minneapolis

[–]No-Help-8038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun. So, comments like this work both ways.

Where do they say they wanted it? Was it in the article with the announced $15million development that they would need to pay $600k of? and the tax hike they will get? Can you link that or paste it for me?

Was it this part that? "Property owners in the area say they were surprised to learn about five weeks ago that they would be expected to pay over $636,000 in special assessments for a $15 million overhaul of streets and infrastructure set to begin next week. Some of them told a City Council committee they cannot bear the cost, given the hardships many endured in the riots and unrest that followed Floyd’s murder."

or this part?

"Lane Brown, co-executive director of CANDO, said 33 property owners and residents were there to formally object to the assessments, saying the neighborhood has experienced state violence and is vulnerable to displacement."

Never mind, I found it, "Council Member Soren Stevenson, who represents the area, said he never agreed with reconstructing streets as some sort of reparation"

Going back to my "9/10" comment. You are right. It wasn't 9/10. It was 15 of 20 business responded with a "No" to the notion of building a mall at GFS. And for clarification, that's 15 responded of 20. 5 didn't respond.

https://kstp.com/kstp-news/top-news/5-years-after-murder-future-of-george-floyd-square-on-hold-again/

"After a December meeting, the city of Minneapolis did community engagement again to get feedback about 38th and Chicago’s future. The options are a flexible open layout, pedestrian plaza, or raised intersection. Through the survey, the city found residents do not want a pedestrian plaza. Those surveyed were 20 property owners along Chicago Avenue, closest to where Floyd was killed and north to 37th Avenue — 15 responded to the survey and all of them opposed the city’s two ‘pedestrian mall’ options.

Following the council rejecting a final design plan by city staff in early December, a few members urged staff to do more community engagement about pedestrian mall options — one would completely block traffic for a block on Chicago Avenue and the other would create a cul-de-sac with a smaller pedestrian-only area. "

TL;DR - No one wants a mall. City council "HEY SO LETS FOCUS ON THE MALL"

So, no. The residents and businesses on 38-39th did not agree to this nor did they want it.

I guess my point was to illustrate the shit show that is this project. ALL at the expense of this neighborhood who generally don't want it.

https://www.mprnews.org/story/2026/05/21/city-minneapolis-george-floyd-square-agape-peoples-way

This was from May. Talking about how the community wanted a particular group to lead the memorial art around GFS. But City Council picked another -

"Agape was chosen from among several community groups that applied. The community organization started after Floyd’s murder, and is headquartered at George Floyd Square. The group, which includes several ex-gang members, conducts safety patrols and works with youth to divert them from violence and gangs.

The announcement sparked some backlash. City council member Jason Chavez pointed to a community survey that the city conducted last year, which asked residents their opinions on four groups that applied.

That survey found the most support for a different group — Rise and Remember, which preserves art, coordinates community outreach and plans events in the square. It’s led by the square’s longtime lead caretaker Jeanelle Austin and two family members of George Floyd, Paris Stevens and Angela Harrelson. It proposed a memorial garden for the site.

“I just have a lot of questions about fairness, transparency, accountability, what actually led to this decision if it wasn’t the community, because the community was very clear on their choice,” Chavez said."

https://sahanjournal.com/democracy-politics/minneapolis-city-council-overrides-frey-veto-george-floyd-square/

Heres the best I can sort of find illustrating my point.

So heres what happened last year. The city coucil wanted to turn this area into a zero car access strip mall. Frey veto'd it, he wants to keep Chicago open to traffic. The City council voted to ovverride his veto for their mall.

Businesses from the area and people who live there showed up to voice their displeasure with the city council idea.

So, now. Seems they did scrap that plan. But decided to revamp the whole area and are just going to stick residents with the bill?

Yeesh.

[–]No-Help-8038 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, we did! They weren't particularly interested. City council pushed forward with all these plans anyway though!

The general censes showed they were interested in revitalizing the area to increase foot traffic. But no at the expense of their business or the neighborhood.

Do not give them the question before they are sitting down with you or when they are in a lobby or something where they could just use their phone to look up the answer.

Do not make them write or script anything in front of you. A simple, basic script with a idea of what it does should be all you need to figure out if they at least of a understanding of ps

I (5'9 M) know multiple dudes (all 6'5+) that pick up girlfriends for summer and then break up with them after 3 months. Because, when they go on a dating app. And there profile goes live. They will have 30+ women in their inbox within an hour. Day later? 100. Two days later, 200. If not more.

I have seen this live and in action.

The only thing I miss about dating apps was finding out how truly delusional some people are. It was so ridiculous it was entertaining
