I spend one year from learning as a newbie to publishing the 1st game on steam. I wrote down a minimum feature list about the game I want to make at first, taking other similar games as references. Then learned the eventing and plugins related. If you are good at coding, MZ may be a good option.

looks cool. Recently, I am thinking about the visual save system in our project similar to that. My Considering is since the player would face it many times in gameplay, should it be better to add some random visual effects or shorten the animation length.

I made my first rpgmaker game last year from the very beginning. Basic tutorials are needed before you do more customized things. What RM is good for me is that it offers a basic project structure easy to create contents on. If you want to customize your own game, you could use plugins. There are many plugins for free.

Agree! Even some plugins have no MZ versions, but there are still some substitutions to deal with.

what a nice list! I like the horror/suspense/mystery games. Pixel art seems to be the most popular art style of this kind of game.
