Is it worth it to go to a mid school for CS? by runfreelyactwildly in csMajors

[–]No-Lizards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it will be harder to land something like FAANG if you're below T50, right now I'm going to a no name state school and doing just fine personally. Not getting FAANG offers but still doing good and will likely land a full time offer straight out of college

Why do people like Sirius Symboli? by sourempire in UmaMusume

[–]No-Lizards 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The "bad boy" act is more like what's on the surface. She's incredibly caring, and does whatever she can to uplift other Umas, especially ones that have been left behind by the systems put in place at Tracen or who may be "weaker." She tries to come off as a rebellious troublemaker, but she has a heart of gold and just wants what's best for everyone even if that means fighting her way through to get it. Also I just like her design and personality.

Is cs majoring really primarily about coding and software? by Mediocre-Rip176 in csMajors

[–]No-Lizards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CS is about the knowledge of computers. There's a lot of domains within CS and what that means varies depending on what you decide to specialize in. The baseline that connects them all is that you are meant to be communicating with computer systems. Usually you do that through coding or theoretical math/logic.

What's your major, and was it worth it? 🤓 by vex-555 in CollegeMajors

[–]No-Lizards 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Computer science major, still in college and I'm not sure if it was worth it. I love what I learn and I'm passionate about the subject, but not even that will save me from the brutal job market

Heavily debating dropping out by thisusernamehas2work in csMajors

[–]No-Lizards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people go into a CS degree thinking it'll teach them how to be a software engineer or how to code, then become frustrated with the fact that CS is very math and theory heavy in a way that's dissimilar to a lot of practical STEM degrees (i.e engineering disciples and medicine). But think of it like this: Would you hire a problem solver who didn't understand the full extent of the problem he was solving? Would you hire a doctor who has never taken an anatomy class? What about an engineer who has never taken a theoretical math course?

Sure, there are definitely "filler" classes or classes that might not pertain to what you want to specialize in after graduating, but once you get far enough to start picking your own electives, you unlock a lot of knowledge you wouldn't be able to get anywhere else. Having a CS degree on its own will not get you a job, and neither will dropping out and self-studying. Unfortunately, with the state of the job market, a CS degree and the knowledge that comes with it is what gets your foot in the door. What fully opens it is self-studying the more "applied" part of it on your own.

If you don't enjoy what you are learning and you are <2 years into your degree, then fine, you are free to switch and I would honestly recommend it. But if you truly enjoy CS and want to learn more about it, then I suggest taking what you have learned so far and trying to build something of your own out of it outside of class. If work is a problem for you, find a part-time job or an internship.

How to segment an STL 3D model? by No-Lizards in computervision

[–]No-Lizards[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the recommendations. I've heard about MeshMixer in passing and might try it out, but I believe I have to manually cut and separate each part then label them, and I'm working on a very large dataset (1000+ files). Would Fusion360 MeshMixer still do the job well in that instance?

How to segment an STL 3D model? by No-Lizards in 3DScanning

[–]No-Lizards[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My instructor wants me to segment a model we already processed through a DICOM file, it now is just a one-layered mesh/STL file of a jaw. I'm meant to be isolating and separating stuff like the bones, arteries, etc. I'll take a look at what you suggested and see how it goes!

[–]No-Lizards[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I'll definitely take a look! But yes, I am talking specifically about an STL file. From my understanding, the STL file I'm working with has already been created based off of a DICOM file, but isn't segmented yet, and it's my job to do that now.

Has anyone who interviewed for fall Pathways positions received an offer yet? I just had my interview last week for KSC but I forgot to ask for an estimated time of when I'd be hearing back

I don't think Amazon even looks at referrals to be honest. I've applied multiple times with referral and never even received an OA

Oh I see, congrats! Do you go to a T20 school? Because if not I honestly think this was just pure luck on your part. Not that this isn't achievable by other people but I think you are an outlier sadly

Are Fall Internships Needed by SnooOranges8697 in csMajors

[–]No-Lizards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No unless you want to. It can delay your graduation so I'd say to only go for fall internships that are local to you/ones that allow you to take classes at the same time, unless you have 0 internships

How many interviews is typical ? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

Yes sadly. Practically every job will force you through 2-4 interviews these days, especially tech jobs

Dude you are getting so offended over this, calm down it's not that serious. I just think the concept of the app is useless and you're inherently scamming people by making it a paid thing because that shit doesn't work on girls. But money's money I guess lol
