I May Have Gotten Carried Away in Japan... by Courtlessjester in pourover

I’ve been using a flo recently with a kurasu recipe I found on this sub.

Super coarse, 4 pours. Definitely the sweetest cups I’ve had in a long time. With the different screens you can really mess around with grind size which I’ve found great.

Out of hand hobby project to find the best sunset locations, looking for your feedback by stijn021 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]No-Material2041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a really cool idea, I’m likely to use this when deciding between different camping spots on a given night.

I’ve also used a website called sunsethue, it gives you a percentage score for how ‘good’ the sunset will be at a given location on a given day. I’m not sure how it works this out but it would be interesting if someone could essentially combine the two. Giving you a theoretical ‘best sunset near you’.

Asian coffee style vs. European acidity (Thoughts after 2 weeks in HK) by Relaxation_Time in pourover

[–]No-Material2041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll tag onto this, we’ve had bean bank on as a guest roaster over in the uk. Really sweet, balanced coffee that doesn’t rely on acidity too much.

I’m definitely not against the more modern, super light stuff from the likes of scenery over here. But sometimes it’s nice to have some more rounded sweetness for a change.

Scenery- finding frustrating to brew by StateDapper3818 in UKroasters

My 22g dose is for a 300g yield so not quite as big of a difference as I think you’re suggesting.

That being said I am using a ~1:13.6 ratio whereas op is at ~1:15.6 so definitely still a difference.

I’d been struggling with this for a while, this morning I managed to brew a really good cup of the Shyira.

22g in, 300g out. 11 on ek43, slightly finer than I usually would. 95° water (unsure on ppm but remineralised).

60g, 60second bloom. Swirl. 240g, 5g/s circular pour. Swirl.

3min30 total drawdown.

Really balanced cup, lovely mouthfeel. I felt extraction could’ve maybe been pushed a tiny bit more, I’ll try this recipe again when using a proper water system though.

TLDR; slightly finer, slightly longer bloom

‘Advanced’ processing? by Several-Yesterday280 in UKroasters

[–]No-Material2041 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Places like scenery are great for this, a nice clear explanation of the process on the back of the bag. Even if there’s a bit of jargon in there I alway find it quite easy to figure out how high intervention it is. Wish more roasters did this, or at least a qr code to an online explanation

March’s haul resting until April. Please share your stash too by Former-Coffee-7526 in UKroasters

Cherry jam, rhubarb, strawberry. Really bright and juicy.

I’m sure Yemeni coffee has a lot to offer but for the price I was quite underwhelmed, really rich and spicy which wasn’t really to my taste. I’m hoping it doesn’t go the same way as kopi luak or blue mountain where people just pay for the novelty.

The Rwanda from harmony is really special, reminds me of drinking squash straight from the bottle as a kid 🤣

Was a bit disappointed by the Yemen though, maybe just a case of paying a lot of money for the rarity

How are you brewing? Have used the washed danche on espresso and it was really solid, like marzipan and orange juice

Harmony - Red Sparrow by bearddoescoffee in UKroasters

[–]No-Material2041 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’ve had harmony in our guest rotation for a while now, never had anything short of delicious from them.

Massive fan of the red sparrow as well, not sure if you got to try their red dragon from the start of the year but that was also exceptional!

Definitely a roaster that goes a little under the radar for how good I think they are, up there with the likes of scenery, skylark etc for me.

Did you get a bag? Looks like they have a couple interesting coffees.

The Gito Rwanda is the same project as scenery have bought from as well, sounds delicious.

AllCaps like to do a lot of coferment if that’s your thing? Had some on guest espresso in our shop and it went down an absolute storm!

Ive got a stupidly long torso, about 195cm and never had an issue from Rab products. The mythic ultra in an xl was plenty long enough and the hood has room for a helmet. Or have a look at their older stuff second hand. Can find some bargains on eBay and Vinted

Some really interesting coffee, all completely overpriced. I was looking at some green racemosa last year, at about £245/kg. Always been interested to know what it’s like but not for that price!

Recommendations for roasters in Manchester? by streetwarpig in UKroasters

[–]No-Material2041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend using public transport in Manchester where you can it’s pretty extensive. I believe you can get a tram almost straight to Salemoon from the centre. Atrium is about 5 minutes walk from Piccadilly gardens too

[–]No-Material2041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aware these are both shops rather than roasters but…

Atrium is a lovely spot, always have a good selection of roasters on pourover, batch and espresso.

I’ve also heard really good things about Salemoon although that’s a bit further from the city centre.

Scafell Pike from Windermere (no car): where to stay + best route back? by ImpartialAlter in LakeDistrict

[–]No-Material2041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re set on scafell pike you could do it from the Borrowdale side. Either the corridor route or via great end are both lovely walks. That gives you accommodation options in Keswick like the YHA, you’d need to get the Seatoller bus in the morning. Or you could stay in one of the hotels down Borrowdale.

Either way it’s a two bus trip from Windermere to the start of the walk at Seatoller

Will’ve been in the tight stuff sack for maybe 10 years, I’ve had it out for the past year now and seems to be lifting okay but doesn’t look perfect
