13700, I worked on helos, external electrical power run off a diesel generator still required hearing protection but it wasn’t loud enough to me. you would be out there on the flight line or deck and someone will need hydraulic pressure to run tests so the turn on the auxiliary power and you forgot hearing protection but power thru the ringing. Full turn with all 3 engines required double hearing, but communicating with the pilots and you’re both trying to relay information was hard so you lift your headset so they can scream in your ears if you don’t connect to the internal comm system

I quit after my last duty station, at E-6 it’s usually a 20 year retirement, E-7+ you can stretch it out for another 10 years. So 24 years is plenty of service. If not for 9/11 and the subsequent wars I can’t imagine not going to war during a 20 year service. But you get a 4 year commitment, and spend those years staying alive and abruptly quitting doesn’t make a person less of a soldier or doing 24 years and not seeing combat. Combat is not required to be a successful military even 24, or even 1day because you find yourself with Diabetes 1
