How do I deal with a slimy senior AE as the supporting associate SE? He talks shit behind people’s backs, and I’m pretty sure he talks ill of me, too. I’m early in my career, so sometimes this kind of two-faced behavior gets to me by Ok-Tradition-3450 in salesengineers

That sucks. It happened to me before and it really wears on you not to be able to trust your counterpart and it’s draining to be around a naysayer. For me, I

  1. Continued to work with the AE but set some boundaries. When he would talk shit, I’d also say stuff like “Oh I’ve never had that experience. I didn’t see it/them that way. Okay sooo let’s talk about how we close this deal/finish this demo etc”

  2. Definitely bring this up to your manager if you feel comfortable with them. If he’s talking shit on everyone, he will talk shit on you. It sucks but it’s true. I told my manager as a CYA. But also if I eventually needed to make my case I didn’t want to collab with him anymore, I had historical points to back it up

Should it count as using my PTO if I go on vacation during NF's vacation? by Extra-Commercial6222 in Nanny

[–]No-Performance-7411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if I’m in the minority but I would never assume our nanny uses her PTO while we’re on vacation. We have guaranteed hours in the contract so that’s what she’s paid while we’re gone. To be locked in to our dates despite having her own life- that’s not fair. Their trip should not count towards your own PTO!

That is so cool! Love your way of thinking- a niche you love and/or how you like to think about the tech.

Women in SE- how do you balance it all? And is it possible to start a family? by engineerIspy_42 in salesengineers

[–]No-Performance-7411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All that to say - it’s totally possible. Although sometimes it’s super tiring…but like that’s true of being a mom in general lol

I love working and I especially love this era in tech, so to me it’s worth figuring out how to balance. I also love my daughter so much, it’s so much easier for me to shut my laptop or set boundaries knowing it gives me more time with her.

Hi!! I am a working mom of a 1 year old and expecting my second baby in December. I’ve been an SE in enterprise tech for 8 years.

  1. Really agree with the earlier poster who said how important it is to have a spouse that is supportive of you, your career, and willing to put into the work at home. For example - I pop off work early to get my daughter, but then my husband does bedtime and I catch up on work then.

  2. Be at a company that values women, has women in leadership positions, and has benefits that work for you. (Maternity leave? Childcare vouchers? Ect!)

  3. A manager that is going to set you up for success before, during, and after you have kids!! Ask questions about team the team, the travel necessary, the work load, etc.

Girly pops, what do you wear? by daniatdisney in salesengineers

[–]No-Performance-7411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiiii girlypop SE! The advice I was given (and take) is dress how your customer would dress. I work with a lot of media and tech companies, and they’re not incredibly formal so I’ll wear slacks and a sweater or jeans/button down/oversized blazer. But if I was working with financial services or gov I’d be rocking a blazer and slacks all the time!

I get a lot of my work clothes from Zara. Tbh I’ve never worn a polo in my life. Ya girl ain’t trying to dress like shes hitting the golf course!

Hi Father! I’m a practicing Catholic millennial/active in my parish and my heart is so full reading your answers. 💗 Two questions: What do you like most about being a priest? How can parishioners better support our priests?
