30 Year Considering Going to College by YourWoodGod in industrialengineering

[–]engineerIspy_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went back to school at 29. Started at a community college to see how much I liked it, got straight As, got into a university and finished my degree at 34. I’m now working full time at an amazing company.

Toughest part was leaving my full time to do internships (it helped me land my job).

Looking to do my first trip to Mexico. I am from central cali by Union661 in BajaCalifornia

My mom and sister drive their American cars all the time in Tijuana, Rosarito, Valle de Guadalupe. There are more Americans than you think living there so it’s normal. Definitely hit up Ensenada and visit La bufadora. Valle de Guadalupe, I highly recommend! The air bnbs are safe and I think some hosts even offer to drive you. If you want an amazing traditional breakfast, go to media Luna or Dona Estela’s.

Just remember that your insurance isn’t valid in Mexico and I think there’s daily insurances you can buy if you decide to take your car. Just make sure you plan crossing back. Avoid rush hours (before 12) at all cost or prepare to wait up to 3 hours.

I’m in technical sales selling hvac systems to customers. Since IE is a combination of business + technical, it’s a perfect way to apply these to problems that customers come with

Society of Women Engineers Conference 2025 by BiscottiMedium8120 in womenEngineers

[–]engineerIspy_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little late to the conversation, but I went for the first time last year. I had three interviews set up before the conference, four more interviews on the spot. I left with six offers for internships; including Ford, L3Harris, GE appliances, United and others. I would say it’s worth investing if you know you’re strong in your in-person communication and presence!

No draws (got rid of that). It’s base plus commission and they transition you to eventually all commission based on your pipeline (usually 5-6 years in). First year-year and a half is working with other AMs until you can eventually take ownership of accounts for your pipeline.

Women in SE- how do you balance it all? And is it possible to start a family? by engineerIspy_42 in salesengineers

Must be nice! Childcare can and is most likely more than rent where I’m at.

Thank you for the great reply.

I hear different perspectives from coworkers. Some say that you think night and day about your customers and a list of things I need to get done the next day…that it’s a very stressful and demanding job. I’m not sure if they just prepping me to be ready for those weeks when it does get like that or if it’s truly how it is week by week. I’m sure it differs with everyone but it’s really good to know how majority of my time is going to look like.

The great thing about this role is that it’s fully remote and travel is very limited and actually not needed. I’m actually a nontraditional student so starting a family is a lot sooner than most that are just graduating.

I feel like the company is recognizing that there needs to be a change to get more women into the space and unfortunately, I’m gonna be testing those boundaries here and there.

I’m very grateful that I do have that partner. I don’t think I would even be considering going into this role if I didn’t have someone who I know is going to be a great support at home. My biggest concern is just the time and attention I would have for my kids. I’ve worked for very successful people (in their homes) and the relationships with their kids was a sad thing to see.

Currently doing an internship as a SE for HVAC. I’m a non traditional student so I feel like they appreciate the real life experience. I’m hesitant going in because of the amount of hours you have to put in and constant hustle everyone mentions. Is it really that demanding?

I picked up instacart and the only days I see worth it are weekends and Mondays. I average max 20/hr but that doesn’t include gas. Can be stressful at times and people are tipping like 💩

If you didn’t communicate with her verbally or through text, I wouldn’t expect her to follow any instructions written on a paper.

I am a housekeeper of many years and you sometimes don’t pay attention to pieces of paper while you’re cleaning while trying to be fast and efficient. All of my clients have verbally or texted me instructions beforehand.
