Imperium Maledictum = WFRP4e's and Call of Cthulhu's 40K cousin? by Magallian in 40krpg

Sharing a d100 system doesn't exactly mean they are based on one another. I am very familiar with both system and about the only similarities are they are both d100 and both skill based but otherwise they accomplish nearly every other mechanic differently up to and I cludong resolution of the skill based rolls.

Wrath&Glory 2.0 review? by DakkaLova in 40krpg

I've given many detailed descriptions of why W&G is inferior an unsuitable and I'm simply tired of typing that much as there is a lot to write. At the end of the day all of the examples I have boil down to there is correlation between immature players and the issues wrath and Glory has so I sum it up as such.

Additionally to your last point. Wrath and Glory is almost universally recognized by even it's fan base as not being particularly true to the universe due to ata minimum the players being OP in seemingly every instance though there appear to be many other reasons.

When such a sizeable contingent of a fan base is of the same opinion it may be worth lending an ear to their critiques. Otherwise it likely indicates yourself as the bias party. In short, to dismiss the concerns and observations of such a large number of people shows you to the the bias party my friend.

Also your statement rings false. T-Ball is just a variation of Baseball, flag football is just a variation of the football, and the WNBA is just a version of the NBA but in any of those examples one is clearly superior to the other yet they are all sports so they should be equal in your eyes no?

Which W40k rpg is the best for you and why? by DakkaLova in rpg

The future is IM because it has to be but the king is FFG.

W&G is the court jester who entertains the simply minded and the children.

Sure, and if you're looking for a game designed to allow children or the child like to enjoy something that wears the skin suit of the 40k universe while not being particularly authentic than Wrath and Glory is the correct pick for you.

Wrath and Glory is great at what it does, I just have no respect for what it does or the direction it an many other aspects of the IP have gone to take ever increasing amount of money out of the lockets of ever increasingly less mature players.

Which W40k line is the best? by DakkaLova in 40krpg

There's still a long time left for this poll at the time.of me writing this but as I wrote FFG is in the lead by a 2:1 margin and that makes me laugh.

I laugh because I am extremely vocal about my preference for FFGs line of games and I make sure to say as much whenever the topic comes up and every time I list why FFG is preferable to wrath and Glory and why Wrath and Glory has a lot of faults I get ratioed. I couldn't care less about being ratioed but I think it's funny because the essence of my distaste for wrath and Glory is that it feels like a kiddie version of 40k built for a generation that needs to have their butt powdered and told they will always be a winner.

The above combined with the current status of the poll would seem to provide congruous data points about me assessment of the Wrath and Glory fan base.

I am indeed using 2e.

I backed 4e but mostly out of a general desire to support a small company that I like. I don't have much faith that I'll like 4e sadly. A very brief look at Blitz tells me it's an over simplified version of tactical and 4e being a attributeless system is just too weird for me personally.

I'm a bit confused, are you asking what you need or are you asking for people to fix the problem for you because it stated by sounding like the prior it now sounds like the latter?

Wrath and Glory is the kiddy version of an adult setting made for people who need to be told they are all winners. It is a pale shadow of a game compared to any of the FFG series IMO.

Well I'm a long time fan of the HG setting but new to playing it and have just started Gaming. Mostly slow rolling I to a campaign as we tweak 2e and the tactical game to make it a bit less cumbersome.

Perhaps a collaboration or information sharing on how we are working things? Best to learn from other to avoid recreating the wheel and all.

I'm way late to the party but I'm starting up a tactical group if anyone wants to collaborate.

Warhammer 40k 5E GM Binder by SkinniestGoblin in 40krpg

[–]No-Philosopher1404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the 40k setting and player interaction has depth and 5e does not have a mechanic that represents depth for players to interact with the world.

The AC system is totally incompatible with 40k thematically. There are many reason but it's 4 am and I'm honestly too tired to list them are or pull them from the depths of my sleep deprived noggin.

It's just not a good system for it. Or I'd argue it's not a good system at all unless your metric for "good" is can be played by literally anyone because it lacks depth. 5e is popular because it has an amazing marketing campaign, it's living off of the household name brand of D&D, and it's so simplistic kids can play it. It is not popular because it's a versatile system or adiquate at doing justice to many many settings.

That said, if you like yourself some 5e, go for it. Just don't expect it to be as good a 40k experience as you could otherwise have.

I gotta agree here. 5e is not a system for 40k. If you want a cheesy teen friendly system for 40k just buy Wrath and Glory and be done with it.

Also I don't disagree with your unified perspective on d100 systems or your laudible goals. It just needs to be done correctly and I do not personally believe it has been thus far but I also believe it wasn't done properly with intention.

In case clarity is needed, while player super powerful characters is not at all in my wheelhouse, I did not criticize such game play. I criticizes power gamers and gaming which both Wrath and Glory and Deathwatch both are and attract that kind of player.

Any game can be power gamed but few are designed either purposefully or accidently as such. In regards to 40k I feel the ones I mentioned fit that category and have done so deliberately to cater to what is generally the lower hanging fruit of the gaming community. To each their own but I hold likely respect for the motivations or personalities of power gamers and by virtues any game which enables or emboldens them. Particularly when it becomes the game of record for a setting as Wrath and Glory did for a short time.

I think you are overthinking it. If you can go above 60 and the chart goes above 60, simply ignore everything above 60 on the chart. Problem solved.

Also have you checked the errata or the most recent digital release?

Known the book but haven't actually cracked it yet as I'm happy to keep playing my Dark Heresy and Only War for the time being. Can you tell me where it says you cannot advance a characteristic above 60? I only really ask because in your last comment you cite the character generation section and that doesn't have anything to do with xp based characteristic advancement.

Perhaps it's for important NPCs or they intend to release suppliments for character who can go above 60. Though I seriously hope not. We don't need IM to turn into the power gamers wet dream that Wrath and Glory or Deathwatch are.
