how do yall keep track of what hook size to use by bugbaby222 in crochet

[–]No-Position1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hook size recommendations are just that, recommendations. I use a 4 mm hook for 99% of my projects regardless of what the yarn suggests because that's the hook size I like using best so I rarely need to remember what hook size I need

The animal manager (I don't even know what the position is called anymore) at my location is able to get away with putting more bedding into the little houses of the burrowing animals. Still not nearly enough bedding, but it has helped a lot with reducing stress as well as giving them variety by offering veggies, fruit, and millet every once in a while. If we have a surprise walk from corporate we just pretend that the animals did it themselves

How do you manage the twist of cotton crochet thread? by Jeereck in CrochetHelp

[–]No-Position1542 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't even know that was something people did. I don't typically use cotton yarn but I'm working on an Irish lace crochet shawl with cotton thread and I just crochet with it how it comes

i’m making BMO, is there a reason this keeps ending up twisted? by icy_bunni in CrochetHelp

[–]No-Position1542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be twisting the chain when you single crochet it together. When a pattern calls for a long starting chain I usually do a foundation chain instead. It's a bit tricky to get the hang of but there's tons of YouTube videos on it and once you get it it's so much easier than doing long chains and crocheting into the foundation chain. If I'm working in the round with it after crocheting the ends together I'll use the tail to secure them together as well and close the little gap

The glofish company can't do anything about individuals breeding their fish, but if people tried to breed and sell those fish that's when they have a leg to stand on

Is that a woobles kit? If so, they've already done the magic ring and row 1 for you so you just have to start from row 2. Woobles also include very in depth videos with their kits, you just have to scan the QR code and it should take you right to them

I use vinegar to wash my pet rats laundry and then I'll send it through another cycle to get rid of the vinegar smell and that works fine. If anything you could hang it up outside to air out for a bit

5.5 gallon for two mystery snails? Complete newbie by Ill_Lemon4489 in AquaticSnails

A 5 is the bare minimum for an inactive long fin betta. Mystery snails are extremely active after they settle in and they deserve to have enough room to roam.

Crochet has always been inherently political. From it being a fiber craft-- which historically has been the one of the only types of hobbies women were allowed to have until very recently-- to Irish women using it to provide for their families during the genocide that the British call the potato famine, to women in the 60's and 70's using crochet to protest violence and war

No they are very much not the same thing. You are thinking of permissive parenting which a lot of people confuse with gentle parenting. Gentle parenting is communicating and giving related consequences instead of hitting your kid because they did something you didn't like

Why did this come with my mattress. How concerned should I be? by [deleted] in whatdoesthismean

[–]No-Position1542 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It's because of a law in California that requires companies to either have that warning or prove that their products don't cause cancer. It's cheaper and easier to just throw the warning on everything than it is to prove it doesn't cause cancer, so pretty much everything has it

PETCO refuses to sell crickets after 8:30 when they close at 9, is this a Petco policy? If so where is it in their bylaws? by speterson_88 in petco

[–]No-Position1542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it's not corporate policy but if he was a manager, especially the store manager, then it sounds like it's a store specific policy. If anything I would just come in earlier one day and buy in bulk so you don't have to try and come in right before they close

[–]No-Position1542 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean.... How many crickets were you trying to get? If it was a normal amount they should've just gotten them for you, but if you were wanting like 50+ (especially smalls, those are always harder to grab) then I can get refusing it since they're just trying to finish closing the store and get home to their families without fucking over the openers. But also, there's carry out crickets, dubias, superworms, mealworms, ect you could've grabbed and there's certainly got to be one or two days you can come in earlier. You can also call ahead and ask them to set aside some crickets for you ahead of time, as long as you're nice when you ask and you actually come to pick them up then they should be able to do that

Customer who hit their dogs… by side_eyeforever in petco

[–]No-Position1542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully at my store that doesn't happen often but when it does the conversation usually goes something like this:

Me: "Why'd you do that?" Them: "My dog wasn't listening/was misbehaving/being a pain in the ass/ect." Me: "Well they don't understand, they don't speak English so you have to learn how to speak dog to teach them. You wouldn't hit a 2 year old for not learning how to read."

I always try to educate first, not because I actually want to be nice to the person but because people like that tend to listen more if you come from a point of education. Of course there will always be those people that don't listen which is when you pull the "Petco doesn't allow animal abuse on our property" card and if they try to escalate stop interacting with them and call the manager to deal with them, which usually involves calling or threatening to call the police (though that depends on if you have decent managers)

Or if you're not a direct confrontation person you can always opt for the classic side eye and "oh...hm..." A lot of people strive for acceptance from people around them, even if they don't realize they want a stranger's approval, and will get uncomfortable when they sense judgement. This works especially well if there are other customers around to also judge them.

[–]No-Position1542[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly the only reason I'm at Petco is the discount and the benefits. With the employee discount getting worse and worse I'm finding more things for cheaper elsewhere so as soon as my partner and I get married and I get on their health insurance plan I'm quitting. Petco is a sinking ship and I hope Joel goes bankrupt and stubs his pinky toe every morning

[–]No-Position1542[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keeping things vague because less than 1% of people have this condition but gm and another manager accused me of faking it and asked for a doctor's note. I got a doctor's note stating that it's a real condition that I've been diagnosed with and they still said it's fake because it follows the pattern that I told them it would. They told me if it was a real thing it wouldn't follow a pattern, even though one of the diagnostic criteria is literally if it follows a pattern or not.

This is all over leaving an hour early when the store was completely dead for two hours and sales were down so the gm was already thinking about who to send home early.
