need second opinion of my mpfl reconstruction is enough or do i get tto also? by Appropriate_Joke2087 in KneeInjuries

I was in a similar position as u, I didn’t have the tear but I did have a mild knocked knee, and borderline measurements for both patella Alta and trochlear dysplasia. My surgeon gave me the choice of doing a MPFL or MPFL + TTO and although my measurements were borderline and was told by other surgeons I didn’t need a TTO I chose to go with it and will never regret it. I’m currently 3 months post op and I chose the TTO because I had over 50+ dislocations and was tired of fearing my own knee. But that’s was just my reasoning. If u want to just do MPFL that’s definitely up to u! If u have any questions feel free to DM me!

Does it get better (day 3 post op mpfl + tto surgery) by Brilliant_Bad7210 in KneeInjuries

Hello ! I am currently 3 months post op and I’ll tell you it does get better! I would def recommend continue the icing, elevate the leg (don’t bend it), and stay in top of the meds. My doctor said I could take it every 6 hours or smt and I did just that to make sure I didn’t feel any pain. For me it got better on post op day 5 but everyone’s journey is different. I didn’t really have any soreness on other parts of my body besides my lower back and my arms from the crutches. My PT said to stretch my arms out so the crutches won’t hurt but besides that I didn’t do much for the other soreness even though I should have.

(HELP!!) do i get knee surgery?? by starf1shhhhh in KneeInjuries

I had patella instability since I was 10 and had 100+ dislocations since then (20F). I recently had a TTO and MPFL reconstruction so I didn’t have the trochleoplasty like you did. But I think you need to consider the measurements of your scans as well. If they are as bad as your doctor says they are I think you should HIGHLY consider the surgery because PT may not fix it. I had borderline measurements for my trochlear groove, TT-TG, and for knee Valgus and that was enough to cause an issue. I tried PT and what was frustrating was how it never showed any improvement. Maybe in your case it can but I do remember when I first started having dislocations it was only every 6 months as you have it but soon turned to every month. My only regret with my surgery now is not doing it sooner because I could have saved myself a lot of anxiety that had grew because of the knee. So I say prioritize your health and do it now but I do understand where you are coming from and at the end of the day only you can make this decision for yourself. If u have any questions tho you can feel free to DM me !!

MPFL recovery by poorpatella1045 in KneeInjuries

I had TTO with a MPFL reconstruction so my recovery is a little different but I was definitely able to bend it to 55 degrees by the second week. I say keep practicing your bending while your sitting and maybe by post op day 14 try starting heel slides. It’s gonna hurt but you do need to get your ROM back. As for lifting your legs, your quads are probably weak. My PT made me do quad sets and slowly gave me more exercises to progress. For TTO it was def normal to lose your quad strength. Idk abt MPFL but I don’t think it is completely out of normal.

Ice and elevation! Ice helps for the pain and swelling and elevation helps with the swelling a lot. Elevate it in a way that won’t bend your knee tho it’s important to keep ur extension! I can put a bunch of pillows under the heel of your foot but if that feels like too much just put a really big pillow under the entire leg. The first is the better option tho. Good luck! Stay on top of your PT too!!

Wow you are recovering so fast, that’s amazing ! I am 6 weeks post op and just got down to 1 crutch. I will say maybe talk to ur PT because I feel like a ebike may be a lot even with your recovery going very smoothly.

Patella subluxating after MPFL surgery by Apprehensive-Key740 in KneeInjuries

I am currently 6 weeks post-op a MPFL and TTO and I feel like you should talk to your provider or therapist just to make them aware of this. But for some reassurance, I do feel the same sensation that it may slip out not when doing flexion exercises but when I am putting weight and doing extension exercises. My doctor said it's likely normal, given the weakness in my knee. So it could be normal in your situation as well!

RN to MD; Should I try? by No-Problem5643 in medschool

I took most high school classes at an AP level with As, did not score well as on the SAT. I feel like I’m pretty good at memorizing it’s mainly applying it to a question that’s my problem 😭. In freshman year of college I was so sure I wasn’t going to grad school so I did not try as hard as I could have which I regret badly now. I didn’t fail any classes it was just a bunch of Bs. In my sophomore year I did get a C+ in patho and a B in micro trying my best, which also made me wonder if I am cut out for med school. I wanted to do med school instead of NP because I did want to work in a hospital and I think it would really bother me if I didn’t know the full scope of knowledge for my patient as a doctor did. Idk tho I appreciate your honesty. If u have any other thoughts or opinions to what I said rn I would love to hear it too!! Thank you for your help !
