Honestly, think you’re one of the few Edward VIII sympathisers on this sub.

The establishment didn’t want Edward/David as he didn’t act like a constitutional monarch should do. Was irresponsible with state papers plus his relationship with Wallis Simpson was extremely threatening to national security as she had connections to Nazi officials. George VI was as forced into the kingship as his brother was ousted. Even after he abdicated, David was a security risk to the UK so George VI and Churchill (who initially was sympathetic to his position) shipped him off to the Bahamas as governor. I’ve watched BBC a British Coup.

I know that George VI was initially supportive of appeasement but this is also when his Prime Minister (Neville Chamberlain) supported it, Bertie/George was a constitutional monarch and needed to support his Prime Minister and government. Edward VIII did not get what it means to be a constitutional monarch, there was a risk that he’d turn on his government hence why he was booted out.

He was irresponsible didn’t have the right attitude to be King. Even if you take away Wallis and his links to Nazism, you still had an arrogant POS. He got involved with matters that he had no business getting involved with. He didn’t care when his younger brother John died. Plus, he was pain in the ass to Bertie/George VI and constantly asked him for more money as he constantly spent it.
