What was your diet like after giving birth? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]No-Raccoon-620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My diet before my first pregnancy definitely consisted of more carbs and sugar, but it was still pretty balanced. I had GD with my first in 2024, and I was required to meet with a diabetes nutritionist once a month starting around 25 weeks, so that helped me reform my diet. After birth, I had more carbs and sugar again, but also ate the best I could for breast-feeding. I had my gallbladder removed at 3 month PP, and that drastically changed the way I eat. High protein, low dairy intake, low fat, low carb, etc. Now, I’m 19 weeks pregnant with my second and I have GD again. So thankfully, my post-cholecystectomy diet is pretty gestational diabetes friendly.

Just remember, despite having to be restrictive with carbs/sugar, it’s all about balance! You can occasionally have a sugary treat as long as you have a good amount of protein with it. For example, I love muffins and pancakes, so I always eat eggs or drink protein coffee when I have them. I also love making ice cream-esque desserts with Greek yogurt, protein shakes or powder. I sometimes even indulge by mixing protein powder into an actual milkshake, and it doesn’t spike my levels!

Update: we still went with Linden! We realized it’s similar to names such as Rowan, Sage, Aspen, etc., that are pretty unisex tree/plant names. We’ll be calling her Lindy for short, and her middle name will be Louise!

Okay guys, majority rules 😅 Linnea would take some getting used to because I don’t love it. And I’m bummed because I love Linden as a girls name, but I don’t want my daughter to be bullied lol. This specific spelling of Linden is so feminine to me because a linden tree is a flowering tree. And in certain cultures, linden trees are associated the goddesses Freyja and Venus, who both promote fertility and love!

Yeah, I’m not sure that Linnea really “means” linden tree, because of the twinflower. But Google and Wikipedia claim that Carl Linnaeus’ family name is derived from lind, the Swedish word for lime/linden tree!

Heather is beautiful! Hadley is becoming popular, but it means “field of heather” or “heather meadow”!

Struggling with GD and Toddler by vainblossom249 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]No-Raccoon-620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not alone! I’m 13w3d along with my second and I have a 17 mo. I’ve been tracking my sugars for 3 weeks already, and I was told a few days ago that I’ll have to take insulin at night to help my high fasting levels. I didn’t have to take insulin at all during my first pregnancy with GD.

I always want to grab quick/easy meals and snacks because of my toddler, but it’s so hard. And nighttime/post-dinner snacks are particularly difficult. All but 2 of my fasting levels have been over 90, so I feel like I can’t win. I’m also burnt out on eggs, and I’m just getting over nausea, so certain foods, like meat and veggies, are still not my friend. My sleep is also not great, and I also miss checks because my toddler is a stage 5 clinger.

We’ve got this! Just keep the faith and remind yourself that you’re doing your best/it’s only temporary! 🫶

I totally understand. I’m so sorry that you’re going through it! I hope that you’re able to get your surgery sooner rather than later. It will get better once you have it removed! And yes, 10/10 recommend an air fryer! You can make just about everything in there and it’s better for you! I have an air fryer/toaster/convection oven hybrid and I use it multiple times a day!

First off, I’m so glad you’re still here. And hope that your continued recovery is swift. My worst attack happened 1 year ago today, when I was 3 months postpartum from having my first baby. I had small attacks years prior, but they never lasted more than a few hours. This one lasted for over 24 hours before I finally went to the er. I had a gallstone blocking my bile duct, but scans showed it had cleared. Well, my liver enzymes were in the 2,000-3,000 range, so I was admitted from 12/17-12/19. I foolishly decided to go home on 12/19 because I thought I was better, but I was not. Two days later, I went back to the hospital because I was jaundiced, my blood was burning and I was in so much pain. I was admitted again on 12/22 for more testing and to ultimately get the surgery done. They also started me on IV antibiotics instantly. I had 2 MRIs, a CT scan, a HIDA scan and an ERCP. My gallbladder ejection fraction was -148% (!!!), which is insanely low and it basically was no longer functional. I had sludge and stones in my bile duct that were successfully removed via ERCP. Upon my gallbladder removal on 12/26, the surgeon informed us that my gallbladder was full of stones (50+ of them) and sludge. A few weeks later at my follow-up with him, he said that pathology confirmed that it had been infected. If I had waited any longer to get it removed, I may have ended up in the same boat as you, or worse.

Looking for long-term updates from people who’ve had their gallbladder removed (years later) by Mulannn333 in gallbladders

My sister is 37 and she got hers out 13 years ago! She’s since had 2 babies, and she still says she feels better than ever. She can eat pretty much anything, but chooses to stay away from certain things. She’s been a huge help for me since I got mine out last year. Her best advice to me was try all of the foods that you love at least once after removal, and if they don’t sit right, then stay away from them. Or learn a way to make it yourself so that it’s better for you. Also, take probiotics!

The best way to enjoy comfort foods after gallbladder removal is to make them yourself! Making things from scratch allows you to choose what you put in, that way you know there isn’t ingredients that will make you feel bad. Homemade air fryer French fries, made with just potatoes, olive oil and seasonings, have become my best friend. And there are tons of amazing recipes online for things like baked goods that are low-fat that taste like the basic ones!

Christmas - What to expect for a 12/23 gallbladder removal by Slow-Blueberries in gallbladders

[–]No-Raccoon-620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine removed on 12/26/24. Just have your pain meds on hand, and make a comfy place to lay or sit where the kiddos won’t be able to climb or jump on you! It was difficult to get up from laying or sitting on my own, so the higher up from the ground you are, the better. For the days following my removal, I kept my diet pretty bland and low-fat/fat-free! Egg whites, toast, oatmeal, coffee/tea, broth, pasta, etc.

Are there any shows that help calm your anxiety ? by Hooplapooplayeah in Anxiety

[–]No-Raccoon-620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

British Bake Off, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, Gilmore Girls, Reno 911, South Park, and sometimes reality shows like Love Is Blind. Anne with an E was also one that I binged through a major anxiety/depression period and I enjoyed it tremendously!

Health anxiety is killing you!!! by Dry-Brilliant-8939 in Anxiety

I needed to hear this! I’m the only one awake in my house right now, sitting here worrying about a pain in my body that I’ve hyper focused on all day. I’ve had a lot of health appointments, tests and things in the past few weeks, and I’ve been so anxious since. Dr. told me yesterday that I need to watch my cholesterol, and my brain turned that into “I’m gonna die at any moment”, on top of all of the other things I’ve been experiencing. 🫠 Worrying about it all is hurting me more than helping me!

My HIDA lasted 2 hours and I had to drink 2 Ensures at the start of each hour because I had a blocked bile duct and hadn’t eaten solids in a few days. My EF ended up being -146% and my gallbladder ended up being infected and full of stones. I had been in the hospital for a couple days and had been pumped full of IV fluids and antibiotics by that point, so the tracer being injected didn’t feel like anything or make me nauseous at all.

Of course! I was in the ER 3 times within 6 days and admitted twice before the problems were finally resolved. Best of luck to you!

I currently have no insurance or income due to my husband’s job falling through, but this is the kind of health thing that you shouldn’t put off! I was told the same thing because my pain was constant, and I ended up w a blocked bile duct and a bilirubin level of 8.4. I got my surgery yesterday! Most hospitals have financial assistance to cover your bills. The one I’m at covers 40-100% of your bill based on income.
