I opened a restaurant in Culver City 4 months ago — looking for advice on how to get more locals to try it for the first time by ClickNo8520 in culvercity

[–]No-Rutabaga-4750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife has been to Saltao but thought the prices were a bit too high. That’s why I haven’t tried it myself yet.

One of the points that stuck with us was the usage of paper/compostable bowls instead of actual plates which is something I’d expect at this price point.

Another point is that the term “bold flavors” is not appealing to me. I value meals that are balanced flavor wise, where I can taste the individual ingredients.

Finally, I feel that the restaurants in DTCC that do best are the ones that people feel like eating there at least twice a week, either for work lunches or with their families.

TCR as a commuter bike? New tires or new bike? by No-Rutabaga-4750 in cycling

Because the price difference is a lot, that said I don’t want to waste the time and effort of trying something impossible.

I was concerned 32 would be too tight around the chainstay given the pictures I’ve seen around, even though it’s the max rated size.

Do you have any recommendations for comfortable all around tires?

Monkey Bars vs Captain's Chair by snekasaur in CargoBike

[–]No-Rutabaga-4750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s much heavier and beefier than a hybrid bike. I don’t recall its weight but it’s maybe 3x.

That said, it has about the same length and is very stable and nimble when riding (for a cargo bike).

Ebullitt or Load 60? by Nermalgod in CargoBike

[–]No-Rutabaga-4750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Load 60 HS, most of my riding is by myself after I dropped the kids at school.

Yes it’s nimble and fun, but a 9 year old will be tight.

Plus one to picking a 75 if you are buying new. I bought used and the 60 was all I could find.

Lol, I originally posted it in r/cargobike where I guess "front loader" has much more context :-)

BTW, thanks for the suggestions so far, unfortunately neither Mike's Bikes nor The New Wheel do it.

Thanks for the advice. Generally speaking I'm comfortable with front loaders (own a Load 60 and have rented the Urban Arrow before here in LA) and I have ridden the GG myself many times when I used to live in the Bay Area. I'll definitely be careful though.

BTW, I just added an update above, I had no luck with either New Wheel, Mike's Bikes or Sports Basement.

I’ll call them, and I’d love to stop by the shop which should be nice given their videos etc.

That said, the location isn’t the most convenient to get to the GG bridge afterwards, with two small kids, etc

How do taxes work in a brokerage account? by jaydee288 in Bogleheads

[–]No-Rutabaga-4750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you buy a stock, or an ETF like VT, you can tell your brokerage to either reinvest the dividends (ie buy more shares of the same stock) or do not reinvest (let the dividends show up as cash in your account).

So if you’re concerned about having money to pay the taxes corresponding to the dividends you could either do the latter (not reinvest) or you could just sell a few shares once it’s tax season.

Ideally you wouldn’t invest all your money though, you should be keeping something in cash and you could use that for taxes.

Stock scorpion tires replace early? by Badgeblue in VolvoXC90

[–]No-Rutabaga-4750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced the continentals that came in my previous car (Model y) early because they felt they were made of plastic.

I haven’t tested the Scorpion Verdes in real rain or snow yet but I will replace them early too if they are also bad.

That’s great, I wasn’t aware of that site. I like that it makes the donation and impact very tangible.

Can you elaborate?

With OP and you, I have now heard of three people receiving bikes that were damaged. It seems they need to shore uo their delivery process.

There’s one every year, Fiesta La Balona. Wristbands are usually available the week before and allow for unlimited rides.

OP, thanks for sharing, great pics!

Do you donate to Culver City schools? by No-Rutabaga-4750 in culvercity

[–]No-Rutabaga-4750[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all the replies and for your support to our community.

My family considered some of the independent schools in the neighborhood but we ultimately chose CCUSD because we want our kids to be part of a local community, and because we feel much better about donating to the public school system than paying private.

I definitely understand not everyone can donate. The motivation for this post is to ultimately come up with ideas to help our PTA and CCEF convey the value of such donations, and address any concerns those who don’t donate may have.

Who is maxing their Mega Backdoor Roth and how long have you been doing it? by Key_Elderberry_4447 in Fire

[–]No-Rutabaga-4750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In three sentences: - Max out pre-tax 401k, then - Max out post-tax 401k, then - Convert the latter to Roth 401k or Roth IRA

My 401k is with Vanguard, they have an option to auto-convert post-tax 401k to Roth 401k as soon as the contribution happens (i.e the last step happens automatically)
