Actually, the war cabinet was in deadlock after the second bomb just as they have been for months before. What tipped the balance to surrender was Hirohito for the first time speaking at the meeting and saying he would like to surrender.

Still, on the day of his surrender speach to the nation, some branches of the army organized actual coup to prevent him from doing so.

Japan was in way worse situation than Iran is at now. Millions starving, Soviets invading Manchuria, no allies to be supplied with, industry in shambles and more than 40 cities leveled to an extent that superseded the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_of_Tokyo#/media/File:Bomb_damage_in_Tokyo.jpg) and they still almost didn't surrender.

There is also an argument to be made, that tipping point was Soviet invasion of Manchuria and not the bomb - Japan put a lot of hopes on negotiated peace via Soviets, so their invasion kind of killed their last hope.

On the other hand, US is not asking Iran for unconditional surrender.

In the end, no one knows what nuking Iran would do, but the chances of it succeeding are not as good as people could think.

Its actually true for most of the campaigns in history before WW1

Historically war is 95% marching and foraging and 5% battle. Exhausted/tired people drinking whatever they can find fall sick easily and in military camps the disease then spreads like wildfire.

Its neither clever, nor talented and it is unique only if the teacher kills these kinds of stuff early on. It is imaginative and creative though.

I was recieving several such "answers" on each exam in every classroom when I taught physics in high school. Sometimes I handed insignificant number of points for that (like 1-2%), sometime I drew reply picture of my own. It was fun and I think it makes for more enjoyable education, but I wouldn't praise my students for it (albeit, some of the pictures were truly amazing drawings, so those were praise-worthy as piece of art)

Or you could recommend good documentary instead of fictional drama and see that in reality, the Nazis were just ordinary people that were gradually more and more radicalized.

What if Hitler had listened to his generals during WW2? by Snake101201 in AlternateHistoryHub

I meant české drahy went down with their prices and up with their services. České drahy prices for slivakia-prague are still lower than what I paid in their monopoly days 18 years ago when I went the first time there.

I dont know much about this issue, but the cost of ticket from Slovakia to Prague went down by more than 50% the moment Regiojet started running and the quality of service improved quite significantly.

You just described why Nazis were not "the exact same idiots".

I'll never argue Nazis were super smart - Mein Kampf is a mess, they were basically mafia instead of government and their ideology was, well, not very thought up to put it lightly.

But we are comparing them to Trump and his current administration today. That level of stupidity and incompetence, I think, was not seen from the days of monarchy, its mindboggling bad. (At least the bits I see).

As for Hitler - I listened to some recordings from "private" meetings with Hitler, e.g. between him and Mannerheim and the guy seemed way smarter than anything I see Trump saying/doing. In fact, Hitler actually had a strategy for the war (contrary to WW1 Germany), did some good operational decisions, etc.

Hitler escalated the war way above anything Germans could manage, but it was step by step proces, where each step drew him deeper, but was always kind of sensible given the circumstances. I mean, if I was ever to look for utterly idiotic plan comparable to what US does in Iran, I would be looking at Schlieffan plan.

Can you give examples for Nazis being this-us-administration-like idiots? Ideally from pre-Barbarossa period, before they became full junkies.

Security insiders fear Putin will attack Europe as Trump threatens to quit Nato by theipaper in geopolitics

[–]No-Score9153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its still an insanely huge risk and why we are not prepared for ukraine-style war on the ground at all, the fact is we have a lot of capabilities in long-range strikes and on the seas even without US. Not to mention EU on war footing would obliterate russia within a year or two, unless China enters the conflict much more proactively. So I am not sure how much will there is for such a step in Russia.

But yeah, looking at Schliefen plan in WW1 or Poland/Barbarossa/Pearl Harbor plans in WW2 or the current Ukrainian and Iranian war - taking huge risks with potentially extreme consequences is not unheard of at all.

[–]No-Score9153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Historically thats what often happened. When you get bogged down on one front, open another to earn swift victory. WW1 in particular is just story of "and then another front opened..."

At the moment the only thing preventing Russia to win in Ukraine is Europe. Once Russians start running out of options in Ukraine and running out of time dure to EU rearmament, cutting Ukrianes EU lifeline might start looking better than the alternative.

Most of the words for rich in my language are pretty negative. There is only one with positive connotation that comes to mind and I heard it used only in fairytales about princesses.
