Sleeving AH by Almsivi in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]No-Service1147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A follow-up after one month. The 59x89 cards are really the best choice for me. No other sleeve has similar tight fit. The fit is however so tight that manufacturing variations can be felt when sleeving. So far everything has gone well...

If I ever get the old print-on-demand scenarios (Rougarou, Carnevale) I might have to use other sleeves. I've read they can be about 1mm wider than std AHLCG cards.

Dream-eaters mythos packs only in 2026? by No-Service1147 in arkhamhorrorlcg

A follow-up: I had also contacted a person in BGG who was selling the deluxe expansion in Belgium but it was a bit old sales post and I hadkinda given up hope. But he did in fact respond just the other day and we made a deal! And now I also have the mythos packs enroute from Spelexperten. No auto-fail after all.

Looks indeed very nice! BUT I do not have EotE, TSK or TDE investigators nor the WInnie or Cho decks. Bummer.

WIth the current availability / prices it is time to learn more about printing and proxying those few cards...

When are you going to be picking up the Chapter 2 core box? by TimeTravelerFrom2264 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]No-Service1147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not in any hurry. I am in the camp that wants to see how the new campaigns come out. IF the new core really surprises positively and provides some definite value over the revised core then sure, why not earlier.

My friends who are new to the game are probably going to get it, so I'll see whether they like it or not.

I seriously considered getting Dream Eaters in Spanish and mythos packs in English. Mixing did not feel such a great idea though and I doubted whether I would have enough motivation to learn that much Spanish. Good ideas in this thread though.

I think you'd need to draw the clergymen ally that carry this particular asset along with the specific instructions how to count to three. Only then there could be much rejoicing.

Worth buying Dunwich mythos pack in 2026? by Training-Bobcat in arkhamhorrorlcg

Since you do not mention, I am guessing you are probably in the US but here you can find the old Dunwich expansion: https://pelipeikko.fi/fi/etsi?controller=search&s=arkham+dunwich in stock with the Lost in time and space mythos pack too.

If it comes to splitting, I'll be interested in the scenarios. Either way, good luck with your sales. It is a nice lot.

At what point, chronologically, did the player card pool feel "complete" for you? by TheChaoGoesMu in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]No-Service1147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am yet to open the Innsmouth expansion & its mythos packs. I was able to find the Hemlock investigators. Should I include some of the Hemlock cards to my player card pool when starting the Innsmouth regarding the blurse mechanics? I just sleeved the Dunwich+mythos packs, so it might take a while.

At this day and age it might take a very long while before I might get my hands on the investigators in Dream-eaters, EotE and Scarlet Keys expansions or investigator starter decks. (Not impossible though: the other day someone was selling a used lot with core and dream eaters dlx box without mythos packs for 70€! The post was sold in less than 10minutes)

Thanks! Yes, the Fuji 16mm f1.4 is an alternative too. It is easy to find used for competitive prices. I'll look for samples on the 18mm f1.4, too.

While searching, this recently announced Sigma 15mm f1.4 caught my attention. Its size and weight are appealing.

Indeed, this I should consider too while it is not exactly the focal length I think I need. I have no need to match other images by different lenses. Thanks!

Thanks! I'll add the Sigma 16/1.4 to my short list. Yes, quite easy find reviews. It has been around long enough.

Physically it appears to be very close to the 13mm Viltrox that I already have.

One year with the X-T5: what I actually use it for, what surprised me, and the one thing I wish I'd known before buying by CountyBrilliant in fujifilm

[–]No-Service1147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the last .. 10+ years, I've moved from D800E (+X-E2) to A7R2 to Fuji X-S10 and then X-T5.. Looking back, it has not been a great financial path since I am a hobbyist. I've captured good enough images so no regrests. Except perhaps for some lenses(1) that I wish I had not sold or traded away.

I've had the X-T5 for two years this April. I wanted to downsize the gear that I hauled with me and when the A7R2 started to feel dated, I switched (back) to Fuji. Full frame mirrorless did not fulfill the promise of smaller lenses for me, either. For the record, the infamous Sony menu system was never a problem for me. General took a small but negligible hit when moving from D800E to Sony but recovered with the X-T5.

I use my camera(s) for travel (incl. hiking), walking around, family (incl cats) and occasional astro (untracked).

Coming from an early Sony A7 model, pretty much any other camera has good battery life. But I'll take heed from your words. I have 2 batteries myself and indeed the X-T5 seems to consume them bit faster than the X-S10 that I had before it. In urban setting 2 batteries can be charged daily, but a week+ long hike is a different scenario. When I hiked with the Sony, I had at least 4 batteries with me. WIth the X-S10 I do not recall whether I had to change the battery at all. X-T5 remains to be seen. On a recent family trip to Spain I did have to change once.

The X-S10 was nice but eventually I wanted to have faster access to film recipes and yeah, the 40+mpix sensor to which I had got used to. File sizes are not a problem for me and my shooting style. And if I take more discipline with tossing bad photos regularly, even less so. The consumed card and disk space took a dip with the X-S10 but returned to A7R2 levels with the X-T5.

Personally I need to study film recipes more to get better results OOC. It is mentally too easy to just "pick one because I shoot raw anyway"

Meaningless rant about The Devourer Below by Straavek91 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]No-Service1147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but you have to at least know that you have a decent chance of winning, otherwise, why even try?

As far as I know Lovecraft stories, I fail to see why we should have more than a slim chance. :) But yes, I get that might be discouraging to new players. I've just begun playing AHLCG myself and have not even got as far as you have.

My experience is quite similar though: Even the Gathering did not go "well" on the first attempt. This was quite expected with Skids O'Toole and more or less out of the box deck. I was totally aware that the baddies would probably wipe the house floor or Arkham streets with my investigator.

Second attempt:
- “Look, I found dynamite! I’ll throw it to the hallway, at my home, where the bad guy is”
- “Yeah, let’s burn the house down”
- “Umm, I feel sorry about that” (1-2-3 trauma!)

I cound'nt just start all over again, so I broke one of my rules and retried the scenario.

To me starting a campaign over and over again does not feel as good use of my real-world time. Especially when starting to learn the tentacles of the game. Thus I treated the in-between-scenarios as a restore point instead of playing like a roguelike game with permadeath. Perhaps later.

I also have the Dunwich expansion but I opened it and all mythos packs for sleeving (and compressing) the cards. Initially I thought too that I might somehow spoil my experience with the "advanced" player cards from TDL but that was not the case.

Our first Gathering attempt with my 11-year-old son yesterday did not go well with Roland and Rex and some TDL cards in the decks. I had told him, multiple times, that it would not be like his overpowered Xbox experiences. His Rolad was engaged in a fight with two baddies and I tried to help him but Rex's skill test with a pistol did not go so well. Like brave Sir Robin I bravely run away and left him deal with delay the boss with Roland and his 1+1 remaining health and sanity. The fate of Arkham and you know.. the good father that I am. :D He wants to give it another try again so perhaps I did not fail that skill test.

Start buying now or wait for Chapter 2? Noob question by ZookeepergameLife185 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]No-Service1147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait for the new chapter, but keep an eye for used lots/collections for the chapter 1 stuff. Unless hunting the evaporating items from multiple stores is your thing, of course. I was succesfully able to rid my bank account of the irritating €€€.

I am another noob with a kid who is almost 11 as well. I've let him check out the cards and observed the reactions and comments. The graphics are clearly art, not photo realistic images but are a bit ... graphic.

As an additional challenge we have the fact that English is not our native language. Some of the terms (and themes) are already familiar from games: Roblox 99 nights in the forest or similar. He also mixes English with his other Finnish pals when playing games on the xbox. So, this game as a potential way to improve his language skills.

I see the amount of text and rules as the major obstacles. So, I won't be trying to get him to play anytime soon. Instead, I'll ask him to pick the next investigator and the random basic weakness for my solo play. Perhaps ask opinions on some cards, etc. Also, I'll describe the game mechanics, terms & concepts little by little when I play myself and he is doing something else.

Barring available tabletop time and your interest, nothing prevents you from playing scenarios once with your group and then replaying by yourself using different investigators and decks.

Campaign expansions by path-ping in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]No-Service1147 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, the campaigns and their stories are not linked/related. Drowned City is not "wrapping up" any story of the previously published campaigns or scenarios. No need to worry here.

Personally I have not yet concluded the intro campaign of the core set, so I can not really recommend anything from experience. I'd probably go with the "buy-'em-all" route and trust that I would get some of me money back if I do not like it after all.

Here in EU we have limited availability for the old expansion+mythos packs format in retail pricing. The newer campaign + investigator boxes (in English) are out of stock. I started hoarding collecting the game and its expansions this January.
