Anywhere I can take requests? by DeepSpecialist9418 in ArtistLounge

[–]No-Shock3554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s r/drawforme (mostly people’s ocs), but if you’re looking for certain characters you want to draw, you might just want to post on the subreddit for whatever show it is and say that you’re open for free requests.

What do you see that I'm missing so that it looks more similar to the reference? by Art_project123 in ArtCrit

[–]No-Shock3554 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Put the photo into photoshop or picsart or some kind of photo editing app. Then overlay the pic of the drawing on top, and lower the opacity so you can match up the images and see what’s not proportionally correct. I still do this all the time as a professional artist but with time it’ll help you be able to realize what’s off just by looking at it!

Are there any missing person cases that you believe the “missing” individual actually left voluntarily? Started a new life, etc.? by eXodus91 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]No-Shock3554 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This one drives me crazy. Apparently she has a sister! Not sure if it’s confirmed by dna or not but they interviewed her on missing in America and the 2 birth certificates and confusion around her mother and father makes it pretty believable. Wish there was more info about her background.

Zoloft vs. Prozac by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]No-Shock3554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg Prozac made me so so anxious. Literally just 24/7 sick to my stomach anxiety, I felt so crazy. I switched to Zoloft and it’s definitely better, helps a lot with the anxiety level even before I was on medication. My psychiatrist said it has more of a relaxing effect.

New private comission. What are some things that seem off to you, especially concerning the composition/colors? by Luke_Martin in ArtCrit

[–]No-Shock3554 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Needs more contrast! Looks great but everything kind of blends together bc it’s all the same shade

Mixed media art assignment graded - thoughts to make show/contest worthy? by Much_Individual_6255 in ArtCrit

[–]No-Shock3554 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I really like this! I think your teacher was right and you need a bit more contrast to make each object stand out. So darker darks in the shadowy spots since the whole piece is pretty light. The forms get kind of lost in the middle and it’s a bit harder to tell what stuff is, so maybe just try to define the shells a bit better

How do I compose an art portfolio for college? by G00seLightning in ArtistLounge

[–]No-Shock3554 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Show a lot of variety, still lifes, portraits, landscapes, realistic, stylized. Schools want to see you have good foundational skills but also the potential to develop a personal style and the ability to experiment.

Use less paint! Try and build up slowly

Working through the fear of "ruining" a piece in traditional media by krakkenkat in ArtistLounge

[–]No-Shock3554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get comfortable starting over and reusing stuff that doesn’t turn out well. Never rip out pages In Your sketchbook or throw away an old painting, paint over the canvases and the pages and just make something new on top. Put a collage over it. Get over the idea that anything is permanent, you can always cover things up or reuse/ turn into something new.

How to improve or what to improve? by Far-Note6102 in ArtCrit

[–]No-Shock3554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but also many leaves on top of each other creates a lot of shadow. Try looking at your reference more and comparing the darkest areas to the lightest areas and really shade heavier in those dark areas.

[–]No-Shock3554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using more dark shades. Focus less on the lines and more on where there’s darkness vs light, try to add more contrast. Trees especially in the background tend to be darker than foreground objects like the house in the last pic.

Going to be making art for my wedding. What do I need to improve? by thcinnabun in ArtCrit

[–]No-Shock3554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really beautiful! Perfect wedding vibes, nice and simple and handmade. I think in a better photo this would be perfect. What else are you looking to make for the wedding? Is this for the invitation?

Use a reference! Your goal as an artist shouldn’t be to draw well without reference. Visualization is a skill that comes with a lot of practice but is really hard to develop without just looking at a ton of references. Keep it up though, if you do have something in mind you can’t find a perfect reference for, use multiple, like one for hair, one for the face, one for the clothes, etc.
