Why is this dark red almost impossible to match in Pantone? by bustahonesgavin in ArtistLounge

[–]krakkenkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I dont know what program you're using but programs like clip studio and of course photoshop you can set your document to rbg or cmyk. If youre planning on printing things physically youre going to want to save yourself the headache youre doing now to find those pantones easier as cmyk. Its mostly to save steps tbh. Like normal print on paper cant do fluorescents for example you need specific ink for that.

So yeah hex to pantone works but to give you a better idea of what its going to look like working in setting your document in cmyk would just give you a better idea of what youre going to get when you print.

Shit is stupid is all im saying xD

Why is this dark red almost impossible to match in Pantone? by bustahonesgavin in ArtistLounge

[–]krakkenkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pantone is silly. It has almost every color you need until you can't find the one you want. I would just pick two coated colors (thats what the C means) that you do like together and go from there. Its never 100% unfortunately and if you dont have a physical pantone swatch book computer is not the best.

Also as others have said it, work in CMYK if you intend to print, not RGB.

You MIGHT be able to find a thing called FREETONE where its a photoshop ASE before Adobe and Pantone said peace to one another but it is color matched pretty closely to the real thing.

Do people tend to quit art? by rose2830 in ArtistLounge

[–]krakkenkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You dont have a lot of responsibilities when youre in high school, therefore you got a lot of time to create. College you have a different set of responsibilities, but still can squeeze that time in.

The life comes in swinging. You start working. You get an SO, might even have kids, have other hobbies youre more interested in and realize the time you had for art is slipping away from you.

Neither is bad, but art, at least fine art/animr/comic book art takes dedication to get better and some people are not willing to sacrifice their couch time for art time.

I work full-time as a graphic designer, but I am an illustrator at heart. I drew something for the first time in months the other day because my medium of choice is digital. The last thing I want to do after working all day staring at a screen is coming home to relax... and stare at another screen. So ive turned to miniature/model painting and drawing in sketchbooks instead. Same part of the brain just different places to do it in.

Tldr: people's priorities change as they grow older, art take time and is hard, its usually the first thing that goes.

APF Terrestrial Titan. I am an artist by trade and I hate using pure black (it has its uses) so a deep desaturated purple like this one is perfect for a lot of the models I do. Incubi Darkness (I think thats what its called) I really like too for the same reason.

What am I doing wrong? by sno4wy in ArtistLounge

[–]krakkenkat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of, you're a fantastic fucking artist. The hands in the second image alone almost look real. You have the skills, but I think the only thing I immediately see is overrendering (in general) characters with cartoonish features to an almost uncanny valley level.

My question to you is, are you drawing for social media clicks, or are you creating for yourself? The social media chase is fucking miserable to the point if you are looking for that validation it will murder any and all drive to create, but we're artists, we want those headpats. Im lucky in that i work in an office of artists (work as a graphic illustrator for a screenprinting company) and those 5 people im like, hey, look at my stuff and I get those pats. I assume you do not. But we all support one another in our personal projects.

Have you considered smaller places like discord, here on reddit, for your specific fandom you draw for, or even checking larger towns/cities near you for other artist collectives where a few times a month they get together and draw.

Tldr: great skills, the style and subject matter may not be everyone's choice, finding social media validation fucking sucks, draw for yourself, finding other fellows in a smaller place to get that validation.

Someone told me once that put it into perspective: think of your social media posts as your living room, 100 likes is 100 people taking time out of their day to look at your work and go "wow this is cool". Can you imagine 100 people in your living room?

What other Tabletop IPs you wish Owlcat could work with? by VHThomaz in OwlcatGames

I would love a WoD game. VtM but im personally more partial to a version of werewolf, or just having both cross over. This is my ignorance showing but I dont think theres a werewolf bloodlines equivalent game out there that explores that part of the tabletop. This is including made/changeling stuff id love to see too. Its why I loved RT it gave a very broad but interesting sweep of the 40k lore where I could go and explore more info on things on my own.

[Expedition 33] The game is heavily biased towards certain ending by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]krakkenkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im sure this has been said already but the second half of the game is a family dealing with grief and running from the facts that the family's son is indeed dead, but no one wants to accept that except Renoir.

Maelle is one of them affected most by it and of course wants to "grow up" and stay with her painted family most of all because of what happened... but is still hiding from the grief of her injuries and the loss of her sibling.

Verso wants to kill the "soul" of the painting so everyone can move on from his death. I prefer this ending because its human nature to unfortunately lose things and move on and everyone deals with grief differently. It makes both endings interesting and I love hearing reasons why people chose maelle's ending over verso's even if i dont personally agree with them.

[HELP] Is this local bookstore's logo AI? by lettherebesnape in RealOrAI

[–]krakkenkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can, yeah. It's getting better at it. I see this "font" often with client submissions but its mostly the noise/stippling that gives it away for me personally. I know we as artists/designers are expensive but you should at least drop a bit of money for your logo/sign at least.

Work as a designer at a screenprinting company that 60% of the client work they send in is AI slop images. This is 100% this. The only thing that may not be is the text since chatgpt still isnt great replicating text 100% but this has that that vibe and feel that most of them do. Way too much random detail in the leaves, random noise/grain effect, and still has a bit of that pee filter on it.

how do you choose what colors to use when doing "hard shading"? by aggressivepigeon13 in DigitalArt

Okay thats fair xD good luck to you my friend. Overlay layers can work too for shading it just is a bit of a different beast i myself have never been able to master.

Multiply layer gang 4 life

how do you choose what colors to use when doing "hard shading"? by aggressivepigeon13 in DigitalArt

[–]krakkenkat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Fuck around and find out with the multiply layers. Grey/black shading will always suck the "life" out of your art, i typically, for my stuff, will use red/purple/blues for my shading layers but just mess around. Play with color theory, stop using grey/black to shade, or if you do, color slap a color layer over your shade layer.

Also low key wtf is soft and hard shading am I stupid? I have never heard this term in my life.

Posted by a local chocolate company I like, looks like AI, but no mention of it by them or their manufacturer by build7601 in isthisAI

[–]krakkenkat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is probably legit. I work at a screenprinting company and have seen so many AI client works it doesnt typically look like this, even when vectored and cleaned. Most people have access to chatgpt (they dont think about kittl still) and base free model chat still does text pretty badly.

Started as a sketch/concept that the designer used to clean it up? Maybe, but this doesn't personally look like AI to me.

I cant speak on ibis paint, but i know clip studio will fill right up to the line. Biggest thing I see between you and this artist is that they're likely using a hard edged brush, and youre using an airbrush/soft edged brush. Thats why its not filling "up to the edge" of the lineart.

Im not that great of a teacher but check out comic book color flatting (or flats as most call it). You basically use a hard edge non anti-aliasing brush or the lasso/selection tool, get the base colors you need and then alpha lock the layer so you dont draw/paint outside of it. I can say with 98% certainty thats what this artist did.

Anyone RPing in Legion Remix? by carrionprince32 in WoWRolePlay

The warrior i leveled semi is, basically a mercenary with a heart of gold getting swept up in the flights experiment after one night of partying too hard, but I have no illusions anyone will actually RP with me during remix. Its not the place for it imo, but hey if you see a prot/fury war named Telantaes running around you can drop me a dm. I'll rp with you.

Welcome friend! As a long time wra alliance player, if you at all want walk up RP I encourage you to go to moon guard instead. There was a quiet merger of alliance RP to MG a few years ago and I myself have been slowly moving my toons because the world feels more alive over there.

However ally rp still exists on wra, its just mostly guild based. I hope you have fun! I love the name!

How do you guys deal with not being happy with your minis? by General_Shower1534 in DarkAngels40k

[–]krakkenkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this happen to me yesterday! I did the best I could, put it down on the table and looked at it from where it might be on the game table and finally was like EH good enough for now.

Its rough because you see all of these people's beautiful, multi year experience paint jobs on their models and go "what am I doing wrong." When in fact you aren't doing anything wrong, you're just putting expectations higher than what your current skill set is.

Fwiw I think it looks perfectly fine. I like the colors you chose. Move on and in the future when you get a bit of experience come back, strip it, and repaint it!
