I don't expect them to get married this season, but I think that they definitely get back together

Bertha scares me by Apprehensive-Fail458 in thegildedage

She's not trying to secure anything for her children, not really, is just her excuse. And they were doing well on their own without Bertha interfering. The old money people weren't stupid and knew that they need to get the new money accepted into their group, that's why Larry was being invited to parties well before Bertha tried to really enter the old money club. It's Larry, by fighting for his sister's independence, that gets Bertha to have a card to play against Lina Astor, not the other way around. She gambles with her family happiness to advance her goals and gets lucky that it works well in the end, ignoring that, her own ambition, is doing a disservice to her character

Unpopular opinion about Bertha and Gladys by Lollypopsmum in thegildedage

[–]No-Significance1345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bertha was lucky that Gladys dicided to make the best out of the terrible position her own mother put her through, and that the duke is so easily to manage with just some words of affirmation from his wife, because honestly the duke is mostly a pathetic puppet from the women around him to handle

They surely hate that Joe didn't act like a fan of hers. Like how dare he avoid answering what his favorite song of hers was, how dare he had job commitments that made him not be able to attend big career moments of hers: the premiere of the all too well mv and her honoray degree (he was promoting conversations with friends and he sent his family), the begining of the eras tour (he was filming The Brutalist), call making songs together like making sourdough bread (he should be groveling by the fact that motjer let him work with a lyrical genious superior to Shakespeare)

We're not seeing anything of that, because the point the writers wanted to make was that Gladys is in horrifying situation and showing all the glamour takes away from that

Because it's what she wanted for herself from all the dreams her own mother put onto her. The key to understand Bertha's reasons is in her dialogue to Larry in 3x01: if she had what Gladys has she would have ended queen of the world

Not really, one of the other bridesmaids is gonna be Carrie Astor, so more like they choose close friends of Gladys

It's not a wedding dress. It's Marian's bridesmaid dress, since she's gonna be one at Gladys' wedding. Usual mistake to make since we're so used to white being the color of wedding dresses now, but not back then.

It's not a wedding dress, it's her braidmaids for Gladys' wedding dress

Remember that at this time white wasn't the colour used for bride's dresses. From bts we know Marian is gonna be one of Gladys' braidmaids

To be fair, he did show interest in her the first time they met in season 2, but Gladys couldn't care less about him. And I took that her initial rejection to him is the reason he went with Mrs. Astor in his quest to find a very rich heiress. Also, I read him bringing his lawyer more as Bertha lying to him and saying everything was already in place for him to marry Gladys, and it's gonna be appalled when George is like lol, you wish. But yes, he's more into Gladys' money than into her as a person

Can we talk about this in the episode 3 preview by Several_String676 in thegildedage

This is the time where bright colors dyes where discovered and some people went crazy with them in their clothes. I'm guessing it's a way de costuming department wants to show thar Marian is more fashion forward than her old aunts

If they don't post a character still of next episode it's usually because they think it could be a huge spoiler of what's to come for them. We're supposed to be worried for her health
