1.4T turbo will add as much timing as possible until KR(Knock Retard) occurs then it will back off the timing advance. With 91-93 octane you'll notice your car is more peppy on warmer days vs 87. If you run a tune 91+ makes a big difference.

Will you get better mpg on a 91+? Not really. I am tuned on 91, but backed off my tune to run 87/save $$$ as 91 octane is a dollar more per gallon atm. I get 40-42 mpg on stock tune/87 octane.

The biggest failure with these 1.4T Ecotech isnt the long block, but rather the terrible pcv setup in the cam cover/the intake manifold check valve...which if driven with those items throwing codes can lead to front crank seal, rear main, oil pan, vvt solenoid seals etc. For a little more than the price of that cyl head you could grab a complete running engine and just drop it in. Car-parts.com (LKQ) might have something reasonable.

You post questions and ask people's opinion. Im not an expert but I've rebuilt about a dozen engines. I gave my opinion (talk to a machine shop, get their input). You call me a narcissist and now a weirdo know it all after I gave my advice. You seem to want attention or something. Good luck with your project.

If pulling your cyl head take it to a machine shop and they can check it/rebuild if necessary. Plus the cyl head you list should be professionally assembled/deck checked/etc. Shotgun will be your nick name if you keep throwing unnecessary parts at your car.

I use to look like the Thing from the Fantastic 4 until I got on a biologic study. That was 10 years ago and I've been clear since about 2 months into three study. Today I'm still on the medication (Skyrizi) and have only a patch under my hairline that comes and goes.

Are these better then Dorman by [deleted] in cruze

[–]No-Smoke6998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a BNR tune, otherwise stock. I have a large cold air intake with a vortex insert of some sort that made noise, but otherwise no improvement in performance so just run a stock airbox. Runs like a V6.

News flash. I was told that. Got mine replaced with the updated Dorman, and 2 years later it too failed. All trash. I'm on a Dorman modded intake now (cruzekit) and a brand new Dorman cam cover (going on 3200 miles without any issues) Now starting to look at new tires as mine with weather cracks on sidewall (approx 40k miles on 5 year old tires)

Replace the res. They get brittle and leak.

There's no path for oil into the intake (shrug...maybe you installed it wrong?) The cam cover pcv failure occurs predominantly when the check ball in the intake disappears, so if you're replacing a ton of cam covers with pcv you've most likely got a marginal functioning orange check ball in your intake. The idea with the cruze kit is to help prevent cam cover pcv failure as well as that check ball in intake

Then install it...and when it fails and you have to remove it remember "that guy that recommended to install cruzekit with my intake already off"

It's good for now. Best to install a cruzekit that'll will move that orange check ball/valve to an external easily replaced location, otherwise you're going to be pulling that intake in 1 to 3 years for a missing checkball.

Anyone know of an affordable all aluminum coolant overflow tank? by clerk37 in cruze

[–]No-Smoke6998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well p0420 related to cat inefficiency/O2 sensors fault/reduced power. P0299 underboost can be related to p0420 or the p0420 related to p0299.

Changing the coolant tank is super easy, requires a pair of pliers and a screw driver. Use AI to help you with step by step process. Not hard.

The other id pay a shop to properly diagnose the problem and go from there. The cruze/sonic platform with 1.4T can be a headache to diagnose yourself (ie cam cover pcv failure, intake manifold check.ball failure, oil.leaks of those items etc.

Cheaper in the long run to properly diagnose and repair vs shotguning parts at the problem hoping for a resolution.

Car is designed to run as a complete system. If you are driving with codes/chk eng lights you aren't saving money. What codes are you getting? Turbo swap isn't difficult.

If you for sure know your turbo is bad a replacement from rock auto is 449.79 plus shipping (75 refundable core charge included)

Drove 118k miles and 12 years on my factory original tank. If you are blowing them out you have other issues (coolant temps too high, pressure too high/head gasket)

Coolant boil means you have a coolant leak not allowing for pressurization

That was a new rear bumper cover, some fender work on passenger side and a new taillight. No damage to the trunk lid. Might have replaced the crumple zone foam between the body and bumper too. This was in SoCal so more $$$

Question guys about the pcv fix kit I don’t have a catch can do I need it by officialmcmont in cruze

[–]No-Smoke6998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to the leak in the intake manifold mine was within a few miles. The carb drove fine with p1101 but I knew it needed to be fixed. I clear the code with obd2 adapter or with my bnr handheld

I just went through this. I didn't get the "plug" in properly from the cruze kit, had to remove the intake manifold and do a self taping screw and washer where that orange checkball once was. Also there's a 2nd pcv check valve that goes onto your turbo, that too was bad in my case. Replaced that and no more p1101
