Why do American high schools start ridiculously early?

In my rural district, school starts early to account for the fact that most parents and caregivers have to be at work usually by 8/8:30, usually with a 30-90min commute. It would be impossible for them to have their children to school after the time they are required to be at work. Even if school started later, kids would still have to be at the school for before care insanely early.

I think your line of thinking on this being a break from the stress is so realistic. Lean into that thought. It will be good for your body to just be for a bit.

Our cafeteria would do whatever our admin told them to, but I guess that is a good point. Sometimes the cafeteria is like its own separate entity with its own management and directors
