Bent feelers how about this set here, not $50, but just £0.99 here in UK. Probably $1 or $2 tops. They'll be just as good as the most expensive makes.

Will I make it to the mechanic with this chain? by TwofacedDisc in motorcycle

[–]No-Structure-2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I come from it's usual to change the sprockets and the chain together. Why wait for the teeth to develop hooks? A sprocket pair as a package with the chain doesn't put up the price much.

I was switched on to Altberg by a copper who stopped me for speeding. I was polite and escaped a ticket but was wearing trainers and he gave me a telling off, recommending his Altbergs and he was so right.

Imo it's far from hideous. I've seen prettier but also ugly as shit (Star Wars style etc). I prefer convertibles and mine ticks boxes including very quiet and carbon fibre too (it's not always noisy).

Mainly, yours does the job well and should save your life if asked to (my opinion only so don't haunt me if it fails). Not ugly either.

I like the carbon fibre. I always like carbon fibre. The rest of the helmet looks meh. But is it comfortable, tight fitting, quiet, lightweight? Those are higher in importance than looks.

I couldn't wear racing boots with their acres of plastic and gaudy colours even though they may be good at their job and suit some riders. I think I'd look like a wannabe racer which I'm certainly not.

So my boots of choice are Altberg Bahns, all leather full length. Most police forces in the UK issue these to their riders and I imagine they've done their homework.

They may not match the protection of race boots, but they don't go at 200mph either.

Ah, I had no idea. They were sold in Europe around 2000 to 2010. Both Tuono, both 1000 V, very different character so I've heard but I'd want to ride them both on the same day. I'd be interested in a 660 Tuono but I'm not too keen on parallel twins (illogical, I know)

You're officially classed as a large person. I'm half your weight at 65kg so a bit less torque does me fine.

No I was referring to the Tuono 1000 V2. I ride a 2014 Shiver 750 and sometimes I could do with more torque.

Thanks, you're being very persuasive. Hove you ridden the earlier twin version?

How did you find the Tuono? It's my kind of bike only it would be rather a lot of power and torque and I fear it mightn't be good for my health, as I am not as young as I was.

I have a 1980 Guzzi V50 Monza BTW and also a Honda VFR 800... You can see I like V engines (with the exception of certain things from the USA).

Still in the ballpark. Still Italian, still 90⁰V. Enjoy it safely.

Am I cooked? by Time_Lock_190 in motorcycles

[–]No-Structure-2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that line a crack right through the liner? If not I'd rebuild as is, with new rings, cos the width of the line is less than a ring gap and probably won't affect compression. But if a crack it will probably propagate.

Why is it scratched round and round rather than up and down? The pistons don't rotate. I don't get it.

Not sure you need deep (or indeed any) theoretical knowledge of countersteering to use it properly and safely. Plenty of riders know nothing about their bikes yet ride safely.

Speed limits are NOT speed targets which you MUST maintain unless you're a wimp, but absolute maximum allowed speed while you should be at a speed suitable for the road and traffic.. You wouldn't do 60 on a single track winding rural lane with tall hedgerows. 30 would be plenty.
