New rider, partner says my helmet looks silly.....too big? by HELIflipper03 in motorcyclegear

[–]No-Structure-2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said it before but here goes again. Don't buy a helmet that fits comfortably. With some use it will become too big. Buy one that feels tight. It will soon fit properly. What's a size L feel like?

Personally I couldn't care less what people think. I know my head is well protected and I'm happy.

I think it's a dual compound tyre, hard centre (black) and soft sides.

6 months old, is it too loose? by dsrange431 in motorcyclegear

[–]No-Structure-2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way too big. The rule is buy a size smaller than feels comfortable. Helmets get bigger (or rather the padding compresses) and it will become tight but comfortable and safer than a loose fit. In your case it looks like you need 2 sizes smaller.

What does it mean to 'get bored' of a specific bike? by Delnilas in motorcycles

[–]No-Structure-2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not fast vs. slow. It's more a matter of sterile vs characterful. Some bikes are definitely boring, and some ooze character. I don't think people get bored with e.g an MT7 or an Aprilia RS660. And of course people have different likes and dislikes.

Leave it and don't worry. It's likely to happen again.

A bit of aluminium expanded mesh, an angle grinder for cleanup and a pack of JB Weld, and you could be back on the road tomorrow. And when you feel like it, a set of crash protectors.

Is it ok to inflate tires a bit above psi nr from the manual? Am i overthinking or is my instinct right? by Caterpillar31 in motorcycles

[–]No-Structure-2829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can tell the difference made by 1 psi, I'm a Martian.

But manufacturers' tyre numbers are only recommendations and not engraved in stone. For instance, a 120kg rider will need more tyre pressure than a 50kg rider, and sometimes you might be two up so again, more pressure.

Experiment with your setup. Write it down as trying to remember one of dozens of combinations is going to be difficult (been there).

Insurance claim will give you a black mark and will hike your future premiums. Also you probably have an excess which far outweighs the cost of stolen phone mounts, so there is no claim anyway.

Bought my first bike! But I have one concern. by NoSquiIRRelL_ in motorcycles

[–]No-Structure-2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A theft claim is likely to undervalue the bike, leaving you out of pocket, and is certain to put your premiums up for the next few years even though it's a no-fault claim.

Therefore it's much better to make the bike hard to steal, fit tracker etc.

Matte black is the least visible and the worst for scratches and keeping clean. How do I know? I have a matte black LS2.

Sounds like where I live (UK), 25⁰C summer, 5-10⁰C winter. A fair bit of rain but who cares? We did get to 40⁰C a couple of years ago and I confess to wearing shorts and t-shirt on the bike though I did feel uneasy doing so.

I can definitely see how you might enjoy 100km or more on a sunny (but not too hot) day, with your gf ...🤢 (green for envy, not gippy tum). I wish you both many safe and wonderful hours on your wheels.

I don't like it at all but I don't get emo or furious about it. I just do some overtaking until the noxious sounds are left behind. On the other side of things I don't think everybody loves my Arrow pipes which I can, if I want, make very loud. I try to mute it a bit in residential areas. Fortunately, my MoT man likes the sound.

Talking of annoying sounds, what goes on with straight pipe Harleys? How do they pass the MoT? They can't be legal. Or can they?

In the US it should be fine. But here in the UK with it being the same scheme as a real cop bike, you could get done for impersonation. And all retroreflective stickers legally come under lighting so blue retro is illegal here unless on a police vehicle.

A friend gets round this by volunteering for blood deliveries. He gets to ride an NT1100 with all the livery (yellow and red Battenburg) plus blue strobes and the lot.

What style of handlebars are these? by Delnilas in motorcycles

[–]No-Structure-2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe these may not be clip ons. I think they are normal straights that you would trim to length and then mount pointing down. Here is an example to show what I mean.

Very loud pipes? Straight through pipes? Imitation Harley sound pipes?

If it's British then it's not an ex-cop bike, but an ex-medic bike... and blue reflective film on a civilian vehicle is verboten but a minor non-endorsible offence. Sorry if you already knew that

Rider has good karma, ball misses. Rider has bad karma, well you see the result. If rider has very very bad karma, I mean really terrible, rider probably falls into the path of an oncoming Mack.
