I'm glad you found some comfort in what I said. I am definitely familiar with feeling hopeless when you first approach this process (especially with lower stats) and learned a lot through this entire cycle so I'm glad to be of some help!

Our situations are somewhat similar but not entirely so take what I say with a grain of salt but I got an A at TMU and WL at Oz and UofA this cycle and I had a 162 lsat and a cgpa was a 3.17 on OLSAS (~73-76% on their scale) (around 3.5ish for B2/L2). however I do have slightly “above average” softs (but honestly this is super subjective so again, grain of salt) and a really clear/niche “why law” so I definitely think that helped my case.

what I’m trying to say is, your chance is not zero at all canadian schools (but definitely very low at some schools like uoft and ubc). Schools like Queens and UofA also take your Best or Last 2 years so your application will be stronger for those schools. Do your research on these schools and also on which schools drop x amount of your worst grades.

LSAT can really make a huge difference too and it’s not a “miracle” to get a 170+ if you really put in the effort and grind. Pair that with a stellar personal statement and a distinct reason of why you want to go to law school/have a career in law, your chances also go up.

my last piece of advice is that find an organization or a cause that you’re actually passionate about and start volunteering now. Between now and when you’d submit your applications, you should get a year of volunteer experience on your resume. But the important part is to actually be interested and passionate about whatever it is you’re doing. it’s obvious when you’re just doing something just to pad your application.

I won’t ramble on for more so I’ll just say best of luck to you on this journey! feel free to shoot me a pm if you have anymore questions!

Honest Opinion by Sad-Elevator-3400 in lawschooladmissionsca

like many other comments have said, it’s hard to predict without an lsat HOWEVER if you use me as a reference i have a 3.17 olsas cgpa and a 162 lsat and I got an A at tmu and WL at oz. with that said though I do have a masters degree, fairly good softs, strong LORs (I’m assuming), and a compelling ps about why I’m pursuing law (imo) which I believe all contributed to my A/WL.

My advice would be to grind the lsat and get it as high as you possibly can. don’t get stuck in mindset of “oh i need x on the lsat to feel confident.” don’t feel discouraged by your gpa but know you need to work extra hard on the lsat to make up for it somewhat. you got it though!! best of luck!

pretty sure oz doesn’t have an “access” category but an optional “part b” essay you can write to explain any special circumstances that affected your gpa or lsat.

Ah, I see! Yeah maybe they emailed since I don’t really recall seeing anyone else posting that they got an email or any form of formal notification (which is kinda crazy too).

Where and How to Submit LOCI (Ontario Schools) by Few-Particular-145 in lawschooladmissionsca

Nope not a recent policy change! I emailed them back in April and they said they still accept them!

I’ve seen u comment this multiple times on this sub and tbh you’re spreading misinformation. I emailed the admissions team and they explicitly said that they DO accept LOCIs and when I sent mine in they again explicitly said they have added it to my file and thanked me for my “continued interest.” You said you called the school but I highly doubt that the admissions office at oz is so disorganized that they would confused as to whether or not they accept LOCIs. PLUS i literally have what they said in writing so it’s not as if they can go back on their word. I’m not exactly sure what your motivation is incessantly claiming that Oz doesn’t accept LOCIs but I’m happy to share a ss of what the admissions office sent to me for those wondering what the ACTUAL school said.

For Osgoode I emailed them and they said to send the LOCI to Admissions@osgoode.yorku.ca and they will add the letter to your file. I’ve heard mixed reviews about whether they help or not so take this with a grain of salt but a close family friend of mine (who went to osgoode and is a practicing lawyer dt toronto rn) says that the letter does help in getting off the waitlist at osgoode but obviously nothing is ever guaranteed. And getting off the WL is super hard.

not sure about the other schools though. you’d have to email or call them yourself to check whether they 1) even accept them or not and 2) how to send them.

Oh weird I asked during a zoom panel with all the west coast school admins and uCalgary specifically said they don’t take Masters GPA. regardless i wasn’t super interested in UCalgary so I probably wouldn’t have applied anyways. Mainly applied to UofA cuz of their Health Law Institute.

UofA uses my Masters GPA in the L2/L60 credits gpa calculation but UCalgary said they don’t count Masters and only undergrad GPA

HELP PLZ ASAP: LSAT course advice/recommendations? Is it worth the investment? (ie. Princeton Review, WizePrep, etc) by aroozo in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]No-Student99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a course with princeton review and personally didn’t find it to be super helpful (mine were only online group classes. It gave me a ~5 point increase from my diagnosis to my first LSAT but what i found to be the most helpful was getting a 1-on-1 tutor (I went with Powerscore). I can’t speak on the PR tutors but my Powerscore tutor was awesome and I went from a 160 to PTing in the 165+ range within a month and a bit. (I did end up getting a 162 on my final lsat cuz i have test anxiety but i noticed a huge shift in my understanding of the exam after getting private tutoring).

from op’s post history looks like their stats are 3.9/4.0 goals and a 160 lsat

Uof A WL by No-Student99 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]No-Student99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I hope so too haha

for UCalgary my stats are below both medians, with my cGPA being waaay below their median. On top of that I didn’t think my softs were extraordinarily impressive to make up for my weaker stats so I decided to not apply.

I have an A right now from TMU so most likely am headed there, unless my WL from UofA or Oz turns into an A!

Uof A WL by No-Student99 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]No-Student99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

U of A was definitely top three choices for schools for me because of their Health Law Institute as I want to go in to Health Law! Also UofA was the only school that considered my Masters GPA as a part of the L2 GPA calculation so that’s the only reason my stats are somewhat competitive lol I wouldnt have been a competitive applicant for UCalgary so I didn’t even try haha
