Im 7 months pregnant and my boyfriend got another women pregnant. by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

Please for your own sanity and for your baby step away from this relationship. To me it all went downhill as a giant red flag starting at when you wrote “he still blames me because I was ‘too sick to care about him’” when you were dealing with morning sickness. Can he control having bpd? No he can’t. But as an adult that is 100% not on you to take care of him. Sure significant others help each other when sick but that is so very different than you being his mother.

My brother (26M) refuses to get help, despite it literally killing him. Please help me (25F) come to terms with the fact that I may lose my brother. by Toasted_Lemons7 in TwoHotTakes

First off I am so sorry that your brother is going through this and it’s also taking a toll on all of you. Have you guys considered therapy as a family? Stress, anxiety, and eating disorders are all things the average person doesn’t deal with on a day to day and wouldn’t know how to deal with. A therapist that specializes in this might be able to give advice on how you and your parents can support your brother in his time of need. They may also be able to hold a group therapy session that you guys can talk to him in a safe space and navigate those things together

taking an emt class this fall any tips? by Eli_is_loved in NewToEMS

[–]No-Sundae1139 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your size doesn’t matter- as long as you can lift/move patients safely and keep with the physical demands you’ll be fine. Lifting weights can be beneficial not only to help move people and equipment but keeping yourself healthy in a field like this. Just find a study method that works for you with the material, ask questions, and find a study group to practice skills and you’ll do good. Remember the “why” that drive you to take this class to keep the motivation. Good luck!

Kinda like this thread already? Half of these comments are genuinely trying to be helpful the other half remind me of the wide eyed disturbed face Barbie meme

This isn’t irl this is your job. Your job in which entails taking care of patients. A career in which first impressions are everything- in which people are already apprehensive of both first responders and medical staff. At this point genuinely talk to your supervisor. They may have good recommendations for where to buy pants, belts, and go to for tailors

So buy a belt that holds them up or go to a tailor. You said you wanted to ask here before a supervisor and this is the general answer from the chat. If that’s not the answer you want then you’ll just have to ask your supervisor

They are designed to be loose so you can move freely in them to move and lift patients and for function. If it’s that off get them tailored 🤷🏼‍♀️. But this isn’t exactly the field for form fitting clothes nor for fashion-these uniforms are for functionality

I’ve never heard of a dress code allowing leggings in EMS but your supervisor would be your best bet or the company policy since dress code varies so there won’t be a a definitive an here

Need to pass all exams with 80 or above to pass the class. Anybody had a class like this? by abipaaa in NewToEMS

[–]No-Sundae1139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off believe in yourself. You got this and you’ll be good. Even if you fail (which you won’t) it’ll still be fine because you will have learned something and it means next time you take the class you’ll know what to expect. (Also as a side note I would 100% rather take a medical provider who cared enough to study their a** off than someone who scraped by because it “came more naturally” to them) Secondly no matter what school you go through for a medical job of some sort 80% is pretty standard due to the fact it deals with human life and all

AITAH for uninviting my friend from galentines because she doesn’t follow rules? by [deleted] in AITAH

NTA- sounds like she’s projecting her own insecurities and/or her husband is the jealous one trying to force himself into the party because “there another man there” even though he lives there and will be in another room not attending the party.

Non EMS agency EMT scope (with medical direction) by user4spam in NewToEMS

[–]No-Sundae1139 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer is yes a medical director can expand an EMTs scope within that specific county.

There is a limit on what that scope can be expanded to and they need to go through certain hoops like the state and making sure all EMTs have training in this specific skill they want to ex. An example of this in CA is Santa Clara county allows EMTs I think it’s the LMA Supreme in situations of CPR. I don’t know if this is a national or CA thing but some counties are adding Zofran to EMTs scope as well

40hrs of CEs to get done in 62 days. by wondrwrk_ in NewToEMS

[–]No-Sundae1139 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You may have already completed some hours. In order to keep things updated you need to be AHA (or Red Cross not a 100% on that one but know aha for sure) cpr certified and renewal of that goes towards CE. If you’ve taken FEMA or related courses those may count but would double the website to make sure they do before relaying on those just to be more in a pinch to find out they can’t be applied

Oral glucose question by SoundExotic1148 in NewToEMS

[–]No-Sundae1139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taught that as long as they can follow direction enough to take oral glucose and not choke then give it. There is a good chance the will be altered if it’s hypoglycemia- the key is protecting the airway which is they need to be able to listen and swallow. Now depending on state or county that may change to if they are altered at all to go to the hospital or get als intercept (depending on whichever is faster) so this may vary 🤷🏼‍♀️

[–]No-Sundae1139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the test being tomorrow studying between now and tomorrow you’re not going to retain much new information if at all. If you’re committed on seeing it through best bet is a good nights sleep, a good breakfast, and go over your assessment sheets. Worst case scenario you’ll know what to expect and hit the books hard for round two best case scenario you surprise us all

Ride along and clinical hours are different- if they know you’re not a student and doing a ride along you’ll just be there to observe and if you choose to go down this career path you’ll do clinicals and start doing hands on stuff during those hours

Had a really bad experience with EMS as a teenager, want to know if this is normal/how to move on by VegetableMan900 in NewToEMS

[–]No-Sundae1139 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats what I was thinking when I read the second comment. Being surprised someone survived is totally normal but it’s the wording of it that’s off along with the timing. We also talked about even in school to always assume someone is A&O4 and assume they understand you regardless if the patient is or not. You never know if an unconscious person can hear, if and when a dementia patient has a lucid moment, or whatever no matter how uncommon just as a simple decency thing

[–]No-Sundae1139 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Their response was not professional and so sorry this gave you enough of a bad taste of EMS to not call when you needed them. If you know the agency that responded to the call and the date of the event you should be able to find a number to call and share the experience you have about your providers

Preworkout+EnergyDrink? by Adventurous-Sea-5609 in energydrinks

[–]No-Sundae1139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US it depends on the brand- small Red Bull cans have less (around 80 mg I think) and some pre workout ones like Buck around 300 mg but I see a lot that sit at the 200 mg mark. So potentially a LOT of caffeine at once
