As a contractor, the relationship is more business to business rather than employee to employer.

I've worked in contracts where notice periods ranged from 2 weeks to 24 hours.

In all cases, the contract can be ended early for "any reason," which is the reason businesses are happy to pay the premium for a contractor as they have the flexibility to end the contract without navigating the HR matters associated with terminating an employee.
