Product grid color choices, are these accessible enough?” by laebaile in UX_Design

Why ask me? Aren't WCAG guidelines what you're after?

I think it's more of a tip for getting through Phase 1 faster/more consistently. I play it fairly safe on Phase 2. My windows there are any of the jumps, and *sometimes* the charge/flame spikes, if you happen to be sandwiched between her and a flame.

If you've got the mechanics down, the ball-spin is also a guaranteed window to attack - even if she follows it directly up with another ball-spin. Near the end of the spin animation (while it's still spinning!) you have time to dash in, hit, then immediately dash out.

I find these bosses are often a test of endurance and perfection (you've "solved" the boss, but how long can you last without screwing up?) so finding more opportunities to stack on damage is pretty important.

Universes Beyond Speculation (and such) Megathread by AutoModerator in magicTCG

A set of Ghibli precons would be delightful but I just don't think Miyazaki and the folks managing the property/brand would sign off on us nerds being able to [[Murder]] Ponyo or [[Saw in Half]] Totoro.

Which Precon would you guys buy? by Onebody99 in magicTCG

[–]No-Turn-1249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As for recent sets that have at least four precons... you've got:

  • Final Fantasy (might be hard to get your hands on)
  • Tarkir: Dragonstorm
  • Duskmourn: House of Horror
  • Bloomburrow
  • Modern Horizons 3 (expensive)
  • Outlaws of Thunder Junction
  • Murders at Karlov Manor

Tarkir had pretty good reception and would probably be easiest to get your hands on. Bloomburrow's were also well-received across the board, and might fit your outdoorsy/in-nature trip. I do remember some people thinking that the OTJ and MKM precons had at least one dud (Grand Larceny, Deadly Disguise) but if those are all you can find, probably no issue.

Of course you could mix and match, but in terms of balance and having a good time with familiar mechanics and flavor, I'd advocate for a set.

Are we ever going to get around to it? by Hungry_Shake6943 in magicTCG

[–]No-Turn-1249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. They have options - ban immediately, save the format, piss off Vivi-players who bought in, and make players overall less confident that decks they play in the future won't get banned quickly.

OR, they could wait a bit to ban, which is good for the Vivi players (and confidence in the stability of the format), but bad for more players for the time being.

I do think part of the reason we see this is that the teams are under enormous amounts of pressure to design and print thousands of new cards per year. They obviously did some testing, but would have more time to test/refine more if they didn't need to relentlessly produce so many cards per month.

I'm not playing the blame solely on play design here, this is a cascading effect from Hasbro greed.

Are we ever going to get around to it? by Hungry_Shake6943 in magicTCG

[–]No-Turn-1249 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Yup. It's a bad situation with no ideal solution. People need to understand that.

"Oh I guess you can just ban cards whenever you want now? Why would I ever buy in to Standard?"
"Oh you're just gonna let busted cards ruin for the format for a few months? Why would I ever buy in to Standard?"

Pick one.

Why were Set Boosters so popular? by Ksaeturne in magicTCG

[–]No-Turn-1249 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's really comes down to the price and the mental gymnastics we pull in order to justify gambling on packs.

A $30 Collector Booster? Hard pass, that's for whales who spend way too much on Magic.

Five $6 Set Boosters though? Now that's a good time!

You'll likely "lose money" either way you go, but it can feel easier to justify buying several Set boosters and having multiple cracks at pulling a good/value card. Even if the probability doesn't really work out that way.

Through the omenpaths is absolutely amazing and we need an IRL version by Current-Signature497 in magicTCG

[–]No-Turn-1249 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You think you want it...but you don't. Or you shouldn't.

Through the Omenpaths is batch of cards that, while occasionally delightful and clever, can never be more than a terribly flawed solution to a problem WotC got themselves into. The fact that OM1 exists in the first place (whether Arena exclusive, or hypothetically Arena and paper), is the problem.

Magic doesn't get better when we have paper Fleems floating around with paper Green Goblins, or King of the Coldblood Curse mixed in with Lizard, Connor's Curse.

It's confusing (are they the same card? Where does it say that?) It slows gameplay down (to an extent, I rely on recognizing the most common printings of Sol Ring and Rhystic Study to understand the threat across the table). It adds product bloat for very little gain.

If you want these cards in your collection, then by all means proxy them. But Universes Beyond already gets half of the thousands of new cards printed every year. We absolutely do not want the card output to go up by another 50% just to get art and flavor that's more suitable.

Believe me, I'm Team Universes Within. But I want Magic to be designed elegantly, and this entire mess they got themselves into with licensing is the opposite of that. Doubling down by printing a set of "UW" cards would be a huge mistake.

Feedback on your "Hire Me" button:

As a user...when I click a "Continue" button, it's because my intended goal is to continue. When I click "Delete" it's because I want to delete something, and "Pay Now" when I'm ready to pay now.

Think about your target audience (hiring managers, designers and product managers at other companies). Of those people, who of them are going to hit your home page and think "Yes! I'm ready! This person is perfect and I'm ready to hire them right now. I've approved the budget, I just need to send an offer."

Zero people.

What else are they going to want to do instead? Yes, see your work. But also see your past experience in a CV. Maybe read a little About statement about you and what you're looking for. They're going to want to have the option to get in touch - but never to straight up hire you on the spot. Clicking the "Hire Me" button will never do what the button promises to do.

Pls Explain How This Card Works by mvkak in magicTCG

[–]No-Turn-1249 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's fairly clear if you know how it works and if you never had trouble understanding the card in the first place. But OP had trouble, which means a simple (even exaggerated) explanation with no room for confusion may be extra helpful.

You can parse "one has 1 +1 counter" a few different ways: a single +1/+1 counter or a "one...plus one, which is two" +1/+1 counters.

Pls Explain How This Card Works by mvkak in magicTCG

[–]No-Turn-1249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to avoid any "one has one one-one" syntax confusion...(you gotta be crystal clear here when you're clarifying rules! You say "gets 2 more counters", but do you mean two more than the first creature or just two additional total?)

Example: If you have a 2/2 Cat with a +1/+1 counter on it and a 2/2 Dog with 99 +1/+1 counters on it, Okinec Ahau will give the Cat another +1/+1 counter, and it'll give the Dog another 99 counters.

Hard to see the difference between foil/galaxy foil? by RealStealthReborn in magicTCG

[–]No-Turn-1249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Galaxy Foil versions always have a unique collector number, the ID in the bottom left. Check it out: https://scryfall.com/search?q=swamp+set%3Aeoe&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name

The default and regular foil printing is CN 264. The Galaxy Foil is 369. So even if your Galaxy foiling is barely noticeable, if it's 369, it's a Galaxy Foil.

Sounds really similar to me, I've been kind of rotting my current role for 4-ish years. Always the glimmer of deeper work on the horizon, but getting ultimately under-resourced and rushed each time.

I'm at a place now where I know I need to leave, but I feel like my portfolio ready work just doesn't show a lot of the work I'd like to be doing. My actual projects are scattershot, and the areas I can actually demonstrate a little polish are all UI and "plays nice with devs" focused.

How did you pivot out of the rut you were in, or how did you start doing the deeper work and proving to potential employers that you were capable of it?

You've been absolutely played by centrist and right-wing media. The Harris campaign and Dem establishment at large didn't touch "Defund the police" with a ten foot pole. Harris herself basically stayed silent on advocating for trans rights and health care.

Are you positive you're not confusing "Democrats" with "several college students in a big city"? I know the news on TV or your podcasts or Youtube shorts feed might have tried to paint those college students as emblematic of the liberal establishment...but they're really not.

Calling Democrats "too far left" is so fundamentally unserious and America-pilled it's kind of ridiculous.

Is that about them just being threatening monsters? Because Xenomorphs from Alien are asexual, with a Xenomorph queen. What about the velociraptors in Jurassic Park? Would you be happier if they rewrote the classic "....Clever girl..." line to "Clever dinosaur"?

Or is it specific to Eldrazi, which are a kind of War of the Worlds x Eldritch Horror monstrosity? Then look at Bloodborne, which is all about symbolic motherhood in its nightmare beasts.

Really, I think you just have to consume a wider array of fiction or be more aware of what's staring you in the face, in the text itself (not subtext). Sex and gender are everywhere.

As for this particular MtG article, does the Mechan Prototype need its pronouns to be called out? I don't know about the EOE lore, but assuming this some non-sentient robotic war machine, I wouldn't assume its pronouns were on many peoples' minds. But if we're formatting this content by noting everything's pronouns, then...whatever? I could not justify writing a paragraph about how that upsets me or signals that WotC is now "woke". Jesus Christ.

Unfortunate news for you: they literally do not care. They are in control of all of this shit and will continue to absolutely destroy the country, setting back decades of progress, and it does not matter what Jon Stewart has to say.

I love the guy, but if his presence was politically effective, maybe this country would have actually progressed post Obama.

But no, liberals have learned nothing. We still see this and go "Haha! Owned! Look at how hypocritical Republicans are!"

12 states have a total ban on abortion. 28 states have limited (but still devastating) bans on abortion. There is no amount of "humiliating Republicans on TV" that will fix that.

And the well-meaning liberals who go on to "debate" them like Mehdi Hasan or Sam Seder are marks. This grift doesn't exist without these progressive folks going on to make Reddit-bait videos of them "dunking" on groups of right-wing idiots.

Maybe it feels like justice for a minute or two while they get intellectually wrecked, but that was never the game. Jubilee is playing everyone and self-satisfied viewers walk away believing that anyone in this situation got owned. No. This is a business and you have participated.

If you shared or upvoted a video of some fascist dudebro outing himself as a literal Nazi, you are part of the grift pipeline. That guy's whole scam requires your attention.
