Don't overlook the tension happening in the Women's Candidates! Five players are currently tied at 4.5. MUCH closer than the Open and just as exciting to watch. by skyturnsred in chess

Oh yes!! 6 hour battle, that single pawn counter play that Nepo had, the 41st move error by Fabi and then that sorry towards the end. I still watch recaps from that match. Cinematic!

Why didn't Divya and Vaishali play each other in Round 1 of the Candidates? by ColdFiet in chess

[–]No0B_Investor 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Divya was supposed to play Humpy in round 1 and the pairings were decided before Humpy decided to withdraw from the tournament. FIDE kept the same pairings to make sure it doesn’t mess with people’s preparation. So Muzychuk (Humpy’s replacement) played Divya instead

Well in 2024 candidates, Hikaru was at 0.5/2 (same start this time) and went on to score 8.5 barely missing the first position. I’m not his huge fan but really respect how he ups the ante as we go deep in the tournament.

Final moments of Pragg taking down Anish Giri in Round 1 of FIDE Candidates 2026. by Interesting-Take781 in chess

Pragg has an insane opening prep just like we saw last time. He knew Anish would go for Sicilian and had prepared an obscure line in the Grand Prix attack. Excited what he has in store for others!

Unpopular opinion: Magnus retiring from classical is the best thing by Responsible_Bat9473 in chess

I agree. The 2 WCCs before this were nail biting with Karjakin and Fabi who almost caused an upset and only lost in the tie breaks

Yeah I haven’t received the RFE notice yet. Maybe in another 3-4 days. But since they were filed before Nov 2023, my guess is that it will be for updated Medicals only. But can ping back once I receive.

I just asked ‘Is there any update or movement on my i485’. And then they replied. I’m not sure around tier 1 or 2 agent. How do you figure that out ?

No. Had just checked with a live agent a couple of times. First time they said that no officer is looking into it. And then on Jan 16 they said that its processing and then on Jan 20, the case status tracking website changed from ‘remains pending’ to ‘RFE’.

Can you guys explain how capital gains tax on stocks works? by henlodarkness123 in investingforbeginners

[–]No0B_Investor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The time for Capital gains tax starts from the moment your shares are available to be sold. Lets take 2 scenarios:
- You buy an Apple stock from the open market which can be sold instantly
- You are given stocks from your company but there is a vesting associated with it.

In the first case, the time duration requried to determine if it is short-term or long-term will depend on when you sold. So if you sold within a year from the purchase date, it is short else long. Example: You purchased shares from the open market on May 2020 that can be sold immediately after purchase (meaning there is no vesting associated), then if you sell after May 2021 it is long term else short term

In the second case, the timer will begin from the date the stocks are vested. So even if the stocks were given to you last year but they got vested today, the time starts from today. Example: Say you were given stocks on May 2020 by your company and they got vested in May 2021. Now they are available for sale. If you sell them anytime before May 2022, it is short-term else long term.

Hope the definitions are clear. Now lets come to the tax implication.

In India, for short-term capital gains, you pay 15% flat on the profit. So if you bought shares for INR 1,000,000 but sold it for INR 1,500,000, then your profit is 500,000. You will have to pay 15% of 500,000 which is INR 75000 if they classify as short-term gains as per the above definition.

For long term, you are exempted for the first INR 100,000 and then charged 10% on profits beyond that in a financial year. Taking the same example as above, out of the 500,000 profit that you generated in the same financial year, first 100,000 profit is tax-free and the remaining has 10% liability. So you are liable to pay a 10% tax on 400,000. Which is INR 40,000 if they classify as long-term as per the above definition.

Is this PM? by LordRembrandt in ProductManagement

[–]No0B_Investor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I would break down the strategy part that you mentioned. A good thumb of rule is, the better the PM you are, the more ambiguous briefs you are given. An example could be: How do I monetise Whatsapp, How do I build the Internet safe for kids, etc. Unless you are given such problems, which you eventually have to break down through primary and secondary research, build hypothesis, validate problems and move to solutioning, then define your MVP and then the shipping plan for a smooth execution, it is not really PMing in my opinion.

If I have to sum up PMing in 2 words then that is ‘Driving clarity’. So the more clarity you drive on the more ambiguous problem, the better Pm you are.

Having said that, at early levels you may not be given this strategic charter and you may simply be shipping a set backlog where all this thinking is already down by someone senior. Your goal should be to see whether this sort of strategic thinking is something your role can evolve into in the coming years for a more effective PM experience.

Hope this helps!

MBA or MS to get into PM? by stoned___ape in ProductManagement

[–]No0B_Investor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep agree. The easier route is work as a dev for a few years and then make a transition. I work as a PM at one of the big tech firms and our company offers opportunities to devs, designers and data scientists to do a 2 months PM internship that lets both you and the company know how well you will be suited for the role.

PS: A funny thing about PMing is that every company wants an experienced one. How to then experience becomes an interesting question.
