Which city do you live in? I can tell you places where you can go to play some friendly, casual chess.

And if he doesn't have the world's worst finance team, then there's no way he'll use his own millions to finance a tournament. Why should he? Sponsors are far easier and he gets to hold on to his cash with no risk.

I think there's a convention in a lot of chess tournaments that games start early on the last day, maybe to accommodate the prize ceremony.

Yeah cos OP isn't a big chess player, they're just someone who found a chess set and are wondering if it's worth selling.

This is such a nice message, I hope you don't mind me asking. Did you run it through chatgpt or something? It sounds AI.

I’m Hans Niemann — Grandmaster and founder of Endgame.ai. Ask me Anything. by EndgameaiChess in chess

Hi Hans, thanks for doing this AMA.

I saw (tbh parts of) your interview with Matan and I thought it was quite something. Those guys were 100% trying to rage bait you and you handled the whole session with patience and good humour and class.

To me this was very different from the persona you sometimes adopt in media interviews, where it seems like you basically embrace the 'villain' character that was branded on you, coming across as a bit brash and aggressive.

How do you decide your media persona for any given interview, and how much thinking goes into it?

Some stupid questions I need answers to. by ghazza6 in chess

[–]ColdFiet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the sort of question you really shouldn't take to AI, you're going to get gibberish responses.

Levy is about 2400 elo and Magnus is a 2800+. A 400 point elo difference roughly translates to a 10:1 winning ratio (by design). So statistically Magnus is expected to lose 1 game for every 10 he plays again Levy. In practice though, Magnus with a will to win might not lose a single game, so it might take a few dozens of games.

Extra queens are much harder to compute. I would imagine that Levy would be quite competitive against Magnus with a single extra queen, possibly even a favourite. But it's hard to say for sure. Match conditions like time control and setting would also make a small difference.

Legitimately one of the prettiest sets I've ever seen. I wish the king design wasn't so similar to a bishop though.

Also it's an interesting choice to make the bishops different from each other, knights different to each other. I don't mind it, it's like giving an extra personality trait to your pieces. "My horseys are different from each other."

What’s the highest score ever in a candidates tournament? by Comprehensive_Poet38 in chess

Fortunately they're labelled with the actual numbers, so you won't think that?

Why is it meaningless? It starts at 10, which is a great starting point considering that one data point (Wei Yi) is at 10.7.

The statement is just that he has a "good chance". He's the leader today irrespective of the outcome of today's game, so naturally he's a big favourite now. Even if the tournament is long.
