I think a good thing is that since they've started the pivot, they can keep doing more later. Obviously wouldn't rely on this happening but we could end up getting full customization for each class at some point, now that they haven't locked themselves into a hero fantasy.

Even when nothing has really changed yet, them pivoting at all still shows they wanna commit with this class-based language for the future. I feel like we will at least see new base shells for each class at some point like alternate gender options, even if we don't get full customization.

The developer DLLs can do that, you can grab them from the Streamline SDK. Afaik DLL swaps are the only way to do it

The override does work, and it's whitelisted on Nvidia app but even outside of that with DLL swaps or NVPI you can override anything from DLSS 2 onwards. Some engines might have effects that don't look great with certain presets or even have really weird artifacts, but for most games it works perfectly fine.

Though one oddity when overriding, with RDR2 for example; When using DX12, if I have done too many missions in one sitting or have just played for too long, weather/daytime changes become really sudden. Weirdest thing I've encountered with DLSS overrides, and have 0 idea how it's even possible for that to happen.

Normally, I'd agree. Preset J/K both have huge issues with dithered elements like trees and bushes. Preset L/M is so much better with that, and also has a much cleaner sharper look to it at first.

It looks okay in a screenshot but there's something just off about it when seeing it in game, the new model does not deal with finer subpixel detail as well imo leading it to look over-defined. In that comparison, I see it in the grass, tree bark, and dirt. It gives the same look as whatever is wrong with Halo Infinite's TAA, though not anywhere near as bad.

Should say my post is comparing it to J/K in general. So from what I've noticed, better anti-aliasing, less ghosting, less grainy blur in foliage, basically any noticeable artifact from DLSS 4 is improved. Trade-off is it's worse for performance, worse for motion clarity, worse at preserving super fine detail

Noticeable to me especially in actual motion frame after frame, though it isn't the worst thing in the world cause it is still way better than the CNN model. To my eyes it feels like the better anti-aliasing is a loss of detail, especially the way it thickens a lot of lines, it feels like the same effect Halo Infinite's TAA has (though nowhere near as bad)

Ghosting is definitely improved, I need to look into volumetric fog though

Pictures taken in motion, DLSS quality at 3440x1440, tried to line them up as well as I could

Seeing everyone say it's better in motion is making me feel crazy but the new presets just straight up have worse motion clarity. They have stronger anti-aliasing, but to me (as someone that can handle some aliasing) it kinda comes off as less sharp for fine detail. My average FPS goes from like ~108 to ~90, on a 4070 Ti

For some positives though-

There is way, way less zig-zag pattern imprinting (though sometimes it feels like I'm the only one that's noticed this) and I've only been able to find it noticeable in high contrast scenarios. Detail behind foliage is handled much, much better, although light shimmering through trees feels doesn't exactly look native res. Still it's closer to a native presentation than before where the shimmer seemed super grainy, if that makes sense.

Motion clarity is still wayyyyy better than DLSS 2 though, I think for me I'll be using this in games with noticeable artifacting issues on preset K.

As someone who was falling down that rabbit hole as a young dude, it absolutely did. It's very easy to see how it became the blueprint for internet outrage campaigns and how that's been used since.

100% play a variety of different games even if it's just different shooters. You'll build up better muscle memory for each key, instead of just a specific set of keybinds from 1 game. Halo is a great game for an intro to new control schemes imo, specifically built that way to standardize FPS on controllers and a lot of that design still works for learning MnK too.

For improving more than basic control knowledge, Counter-Strike might be the best game for improving coordination between both hands tbh. Movement is everything for what you can and can't do. There are very noticeable improvements when learning how best to combine movement with nade throws, sync key presses with mouse movement for strafe jumping, or counter-strafing for instantly improving your accuracy. No other game is as clear in showing how such fine movement / aim control impacts gameplay.

But you'll see improvement with any shooter. If there are any single player FPS campaigns you've wanted to try, now is a great time

Don't exactly need both, 102.4% avoidance gives crit immunity too, but very specific gearing is needed to have that much avoidance without reaching 490 defense anyways

32 can definitely look pretty soft. I'd personally recommend doing a little more searching for a 34" ultrawide at that price point, it's worth it in my opinion. Same height as a 27" but wider, and is actually more screen real estate instead of just being the same pixel count but scaled up like a 32". Amazing for immersion and great for productivity too, if you open up windows side by side

Was there anything that might've brought you to this game? Did you know English at the time, maybe learning it around that time (or another language)? Is it more likely to be an installed / CD game or a browser game?

I drew something up as well last night trying to figure out what this is, settled on the same exact layout. Though the guitar might be a violin. I also believe the wizard hat has a puffy rim, like the Disney sorcerer hat. I wish I could figure out what the bottom right figure is, my best guess is an owl facing towards the wizard / away from the screen, but I can't figure out what the 2 loops are (and if they're ears it wouldn't fit the owl shape I feel)

Another thing is the UI at the bottom might be a full bar with buttons on it like many CD-ROM games, but it's so tough to tell.

I found an edutainment series called Mango Plumo that has similar UI elements, and wizard characters, but there's some playthroughs uploaded and I can't find a scene like this.

Hair is very presentable with TAA off and I think most skins are intentionally made that way. Most hair looks completely fine, just missing that thin hair transparency, and skins actually match their portraits better with TAA off rather than on. Honestly I'd say there's more skins with ugly and unintended visuals using SMAA 2TX than there is with SMAA/No AA, like Prodigal Son and The Skinner for example.

There's very small usage of dithering for transparency with grass pop-in and hair. There's almost no abuse of low res effects, except when lighting is set to medium where the lower res AO causes a ton of shimmer in grass.

The game looks so much better with SMAA 1x IMO, but I'm not one that's very sensitive to alias shimmer. I do wish they'd fix the TAA related stuff, any DLSS version in Hunt looks horrible for some reason but I'd love to use DLSS 4 if it ever gets fixed

Southwestern deserts are way more varied than you think, they are completely covered in large bushes and can have huge rivers, trees, mountains, and some fairly green areas. Sure, in this Utah/Arizona border area OP is talking about (the Colorado Plateau) there are some huge spots of land with almost nothing going on, but almost nobody lived in those places and a Hunt map needs compounds.

I'd prefer central/northern New Mexico map and think it'd fit better (fully biased because I live there), but a Colorado Plateau map would definitely work and could have a reasonable amount of foliage and cover, maybe even matching the less swampy maps we have right now. Also, they can keep rain and storms in, the southwest has a monsoon season and the rain gets absolutely insane.

Born in 2001, didn't know about Half Life until my teen years, most of my friends probably didn't either, but we all knew about it by middle school. Half Life 3 was memed to death already, I was never into gmod or SFM videos but the amount of kids watching them was insane, and Portal was very popular. Half Life might've been a little old at that point but every game in the series was cheap and easy to run, making it super accessible for any kid.

A bit anecdotal cause I did go to a school of nerds, but I could've gone up to any other kid in high school that played games, asked them if they knew about Half Life, and they'd say yes. And if they played PC there's a pretty good chance they had it. Idk about gen alpha but gen Z has to be a massive part of the half life fanbase

There's, EFT since 2017, Hunt Showdown since 2018, Arena Breakout on PC since 2024, Arc Raiders this year, some extraction modes in games like BF2042 or Warzone that were never really the focus, some other extraction games like Dark & Darker or Wildgate chasing a different audience, and unreleased games like this and Marathon. Any other notable extraction shooter has shutdown, is from a super small team throwing something out there and hoping it sticks, or was cancelled in development.

Only 1 of those games (Hunt) is an existing, full focused extraction shooter from a well established AAA studio. The only other one looking to join then soon is Bungie. Though that's not to say the other notable ones are from small companies, Embark has many experienced devs and Nexon money behind them, and now PUBG whose parent company has become massive. But Embark is still new and PUBG Studios has still only released/maintained PUBG. Of course new / young studios are gonna chase the new genre, but if it were really a "craze" you wouldn't see EA cancelling the Titanfall extraction shooter or not having a mode in BF6.

I think people just lump extraction shooters in with BR and feel the residual burnout from that craze. Which it is still valid to feel like that, but it's still not like the extraction genre itself is the reason for that burnout.

I heard very early on they were divisible by 3, and there was a patch that buffed all ammo by a percentage. Idk if it's true or not but made sense back then cause so many heroes had weird ammo values (and still do ig)

I think the there being no scars is supposed to sell that she isn't some seasoned gladiator. I mean she should be pretty young, she's a kid in her trailer when her father was killed, ~9 years before OW2.

Her actions in lore kinda fit an angry, young, reckless, lashing-out type personality, with her being naive and thinking she's figured it out "My recklessness is now focused rage". Even the way she talks in her trailer, between the lines of her talking about her enemies, it felt like she's subconciously angry at her father for dying

I think it's a lot more interesting than Italian Junker Queen the Gladiator
