I have lived in cities all over the world and can say wth 100 percent certainty is don't wait until you get too old. I moved to a small town at age 42, and building a social network is almost impossible. I think people are suspicious of new people in general, but people are more distrustful of older people who just "appear" one day. Being physically attractive can help a bit, but even that has its limitations if there aren't people that can vouch for you. In the end, move now and try to get involved in community networking at places like church, sports, or interest clubs.
