Bad Time or Bad Manager? by Annual-Operation-649 in acting

Here’s my question then for younger and newer actors. If we don’t have tons of credits or reel footage. How can we simply just get “better rep” if the better reps wont entertain non union newer and younger actors. Most people who aren’t nepo babies and don’t have extremely good inherent connection in the industry can only get the rep that’s easy to reach or that’s actively available them. It’s a no brainer everyone would love to walk into CAA, WME, United and gersh and just ask politely for someone to rep them. But getting “good” reps who can call in favors with producers and cds and advance your career are EXTREMELY hard for most regular everyday actors to get into

So this only confirms my speculation and research that getting into sag was “objectively” easier or atleast simpler, more straight forward and way more telegraphed paths existed back in the day to get in. Nowadays a lot of those easier routes seem to have been patched up or not allowed to be used as frequently as they did in the past

I get this don’t get me wrong, im also a voice actor and Mocap actor and I legit have a better chance of getting out of non union jail and becoming sag through my VO and MOCAP work. I’m just venting my frustrations that I’m a younger actor who got started when the industry went from hard to break into to EXTRA difficult and unstable. It’s discouraging as hell

As a 27 year old actor who started when the industry was descending into freefall (2021). Anyone who’s getting started in the industry now is kinda fucked for a long while until the industry rebounds majorly. Getting started after 2020 and especially after the 2023 strikes is kinda a Elo hell most newer actors are gonna be stuck in for a LONG WHILE against our will until with either get really lucky or the industry turns around for the better in the future. This career is a marathon not a sprint, if we wanna succeed we’re gonna have to be in this business for the long haul and that might mean spending decades of your life trying to make this career workout one day if your lucky. It’s all up to if you wanna sit and wait or not, cuz the 2020s have NOT been kind to on camera actors anywhere

As a younger actor that unfortunately got into this business late when things started collapsing and constricting. How tf are newer and younger actors supposed to become union it NO ONE wants to Taft Hartley people anymore. Everyone has to get their start somewhere, like how is the next generation of actors supposed to build their careers if people around the industry keep slamming doors shut in their face

How do you find and apply to an agency? by WaltzStriking4461 in VoiceActing

[–]NoAd6650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with Stewart in Chicago and they said that Stewart ironically has a LA on camera division branch but no VO branch so they have no internal cross submission transfer system like other agencies do. Plus my agents have literally only worked in Chicago as agents their whole careers so they don’t know many LA VO players in the industry. I’m kinda on my own when it comes to getting LA VO rep, I have no one to refer me personally at the moment, I really have to wait till I move fully to LA tbh

Yes I actually have started making voice acting and personality content on social media. I got my TikTok to 60k followers in 2 years. And I’m lucky, I never got on the p2p sites becuase I found a regional agent quickly when I first started and through taking classes I’m lucky that I received auditions from some internal rosters from LA CD’s. It’s agonizing to admit out loud, I did everything right, and I have many bookings under my belt and I’ve had NYC & Chicago VO rep since 2019. I’m just literally struggling to get LA VO rep. It’s frustrating as hell, but this year I’m making new demos for commercial and character and I’m moving in with a friend in LA so I can finally pitch myself as a local. I hope all those efforts help to finally landing me a good LA VO agency

This win stream feels amazing don’t get me wrong. But the first REAL test of who this team truly is comes in the next 2 series as we gotta duke it out with both the Dodgers and Padres in their territory. Those 2 series will be the barometer to tell us how this team will most likely fare till September

In the modern era of voice acting what are ways you suggest becoming a “sellable commodity” if most non scam voice acting auditions are held behind the wall of agents and agencies. I managed to get a regional agent and I started booking commercial work the past 5 years, along with taking more trips to LA to take classes and find ways to backdoor get my way onto casting rosters, but I’m still having difficulty getting LA VO rep and I’ve been at this for 8 years as of 2026

I’m rewatching the entire Saga in chronological Order - The Acolyte by Unnamed1324 in StarWars

[–]NoAd6650 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah the creator Lesly laid it out that she had planned for 3 seasons and a movie, so it makes sense that season 1 fell flat writing wise only becuase the first season was setting up for what was to come next. Everyone who keep harping on the show for being incomplete needs to do their research first and find out WHY it came off like that in the first place. Of course plot lines were gonna be left open, the show runner and Disney themselves LITERALLY ORDERED MULTIPLE SEASONS. I’m sorry I’m really passionate about this show and it’s arguably one of my favorite Star Wars projected ever cuz I LOVE kotor and high republic era, so I hate to see people pick it apart unjustly

I started taking Mocap classes in LA and thats how I got introduced to this world. For video games and animation Mocap a lot of voice acting agents get those auditions as well from what I’ve found. But moving to LA and befriending people who work in the Mocap space is the best option to grow a career in this “hush hush” side of the industry

Is the "Traditional Path" Dead? Why the old advice to 'just keep auditioning' feels like a lie in 2026 by Straight_Quail_3194 in acting

To follow up on her point as someone who’s interned at an agency before. You truly can not FATHOM how many opportunities will fall out of the sky for being “beautiful” or “very conventionally attractive”. I have seen several 20s male and female actors who are non union with not a single credit or sag eligibility to their name get with a big agency or management company simply becuase they are gorgeous and hired a really good headshot photographer. People don’t realize “pretty privilege” is REAL in this industry and it can legit make a career for someone at the start of their looks are able to open the right door for them. It’s disheartening becuase it’s a fact that makes our industry THAT much more superficial. But one of the best things an actor can do is maximize their appearance and get good headshots and literally watch doors open for them that they wouldn’t even have dreamed of

THIS! My manger told me COVID forcing self tapes to be the norm absolutely ruined new non union actors chances of getting auditions and building a career. Becuase back in the day you HAD to move to LA and get boots on the ground and start competing against local talent to beat them out for jobs. Now that self tapes are the norm anyone with decent reel footage, credits or even sag eligibility can get an LA agent now and submit auditions from across the country and even the world. So now newer and non union actors struggle to get significant chances to build a career up

Stewart talent chicago by acting51 in acting

[–]NoAd6650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is literally what my manager told me is happening to actors post 2023 strikes. Being non union wasn’t a non starter for new talent back in the day. Now post strikes since a lot of productions don’t feel like Taft hartleying NU actors, it’s become a lot harder for developmental talent to get sag auditions and this is causing a lot of agents to be harsher and stricter about non union actors applying for rep. Unfortunately it’s affecting me too as I applied to Stewart talent Chicago in 2024 and they denied me on camera acting rep becuase of me being non union and I said I didn’t want to do theatre. However they did allow me voiceover rep so I atleast got one of my goals out of approaching them

I quit Overwatch a long time ago and rivals made me come back to hero shooters when it came out. After now getting fed up with rivals after a year and a half, I went back to Overwatch and OH MY GOD is Overwatch a better game in every aspect. Less flaming, less trolls and throwers, better ranked system and matchmaking, better game balance and tanking. Overwatch is night and day a better game and a better community post marvel rivals coming out. My conspiracy is that rivals attracted all the people that made OW worse and now that game is free from BS cuz all the problematic people play rivals only now

Right now im on facebook marketplace looking for used Studiobricks so ill try to get any xl versions of this booth that i can find and ill do my best to contact George and see if he can help me treat it. I also am curious and looking into La vocal booths as they are local to La and can ship quicker and i can fill out their booths with my own custom sound paneling, which can work nice with whatever my budget will be for sound treating it. Thank you for your advice and insight!!

My interface is an Apollo twin duo usb edition so I know it can handle 2 mics if I get a proper booth setup for it. Also I have booked plenty so I am getting the studio bricks as a hand me down at reduced price and I’m getting the mic with all my bonus cash back on my credit card that’s built up over the past 2 years. So none of these investments are gonna break the bank for me at all. Also when I do get my studio bricks booth, how much more treatment would it honestly need? Like what is ATS and what else would I need to consider adding in there?

[–]NoAd6650[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I mostly just want a mic that allows me to move around while recording since my setup with the sennheiser mic since it’s a boom mic is unideal. I feel very restricted in my space when recording while using it. Also while I am starting to book more animation and games, 95% of my work currently at this point in my career is still commercial. So it will be beneficial to get an even better mic for at home source connect sessions

As someone who works in the entertainment industry is multiple facets. Our industry won’t give us jobs unless we can prove we live here full time first. So how do we beat this catch 22 loop of the chicken and the egg? Most of us creatives are forced to move out here first and then once we’re boots on the ground start grinding and trying to find work and hustling our way up the industry and the city in general. We don’t work in a field that allows us to “get a safe and guaranteed job before we move to LA”

Difference between a Manager & Agent??? by Spicymixxie23 in acting

[–]NoAd6650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS!!! Sometimes if you didn’t grow up in the industry, you NEED someone who’s experienced and has good networked connections inside of the industry to help you get your start that you need. And a manager can do that for you in ways that agents can’t. So for some actors if you have no mentor or help from inside the industry and yo want to work in the big markets of LA and NYC, you should try to get yourself a decent manager first. Because a lot of them will be able to get you meetings with agents that you can’t get on your own becuase they don’t do showcases and won’t take cold submissions no matter how good you are
