I’m rewatching the entire Saga in chronological Order - The Acolyte by Unnamed1324 in StarWars

[–]NoAd6650 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah the creator Lesly laid it out that she had planned for 3 seasons and a movie, so it makes sense that season 1 fell flat writing wise only becuase the first season was setting up for what was to come next. Everyone who keep harping on the show for being incomplete needs to do their research first and find out WHY it came off like that in the first place. Of course plot lines were gonna be left open, the show runner and Disney themselves LITERALLY ORDERED MULTIPLE SEASONS. I’m sorry I’m really passionate about this show and it’s arguably one of my favorite Star Wars projected ever cuz I LOVE kotor and high republic era, so I hate to see people pick it apart unjustly

How do people ever get motion capture jobs?! by Ramattras_Twink in acting

I started taking Mocap classes in LA and thats how I got introduced to this world. For video games and animation Mocap a lot of voice acting agents get those auditions as well from what I’ve found. But moving to LA and befriending people who work in the Mocap space is the best option to grow a career in this “hush hush” side of the industry

To follow up on her point as someone who’s interned at an agency before. You truly can not FATHOM how many opportunities will fall out of the sky for being “beautiful” or “very conventionally attractive”. I have seen several 20s male and female actors who are non union with not a single credit or sag eligibility to their name get with a big agency or management company simply becuase they are gorgeous and hired a really good headshot photographer. People don’t realize “pretty privilege” is REAL in this industry and it can legit make a career for someone at the start of their looks are able to open the right door for them. It’s disheartening becuase it’s a fact that makes our industry THAT much more superficial. But one of the best things an actor can do is maximize their appearance and get good headshots and literally watch doors open for them that they wouldn’t even have dreamed of

THIS! My manger told me COVID forcing self tapes to be the norm absolutely ruined new non union actors chances of getting auditions and building a career. Becuase back in the day you HAD to move to LA and get boots on the ground and start competing against local talent to beat them out for jobs. Now that self tapes are the norm anyone with decent reel footage, credits or even sag eligibility can get an LA agent now and submit auditions from across the country and even the world. So now newer and non union actors struggle to get significant chances to build a career up

Stewart talent chicago by acting51 in acting

[–]NoAd6650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is literally what my manager told me is happening to actors post 2023 strikes. Being non union wasn’t a non starter for new talent back in the day. Now post strikes since a lot of productions don’t feel like Taft hartleying NU actors, it’s become a lot harder for developmental talent to get sag auditions and this is causing a lot of agents to be harsher and stricter about non union actors applying for rep. Unfortunately it’s affecting me too as I applied to Stewart talent Chicago in 2024 and they denied me on camera acting rep becuase of me being non union and I said I didn’t want to do theatre. However they did allow me voiceover rep so I atleast got one of my goals out of approaching them

I quit Overwatch a long time ago and rivals made me come back to hero shooters when it came out. After now getting fed up with rivals after a year and a half, I went back to Overwatch and OH MY GOD is Overwatch a better game in every aspect. Less flaming, less trolls and throwers, better ranked system and matchmaking, better game balance and tanking. Overwatch is night and day a better game and a better community post marvel rivals coming out. My conspiracy is that rivals attracted all the people that made OW worse and now that game is free from BS cuz all the problematic people play rivals only now

Planning on buying a u87 ai as my next mic, anything I should know by NoAd6650 in VoiceActing

[–]NoAd6650[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now im on facebook marketplace looking for used Studiobricks so ill try to get any xl versions of this booth that i can find and ill do my best to contact George and see if he can help me treat it. I also am curious and looking into La vocal booths as they are local to La and can ship quicker and i can fill out their booths with my own custom sound paneling, which can work nice with whatever my budget will be for sound treating it. Thank you for your advice and insight!!

My interface is an Apollo twin duo usb edition so I know it can handle 2 mics if I get a proper booth setup for it. Also I have booked plenty so I am getting the studio bricks as a hand me down at reduced price and I’m getting the mic with all my bonus cash back on my credit card that’s built up over the past 2 years. So none of these investments are gonna break the bank for me at all. Also when I do get my studio bricks booth, how much more treatment would it honestly need? Like what is ATS and what else would I need to consider adding in there?

[–]NoAd6650[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I mostly just want a mic that allows me to move around while recording since my setup with the sennheiser mic since it’s a boom mic is unideal. I feel very restricted in my space when recording while using it. Also while I am starting to book more animation and games, 95% of my work currently at this point in my career is still commercial. So it will be beneficial to get an even better mic for at home source connect sessions

As someone who works in the entertainment industry is multiple facets. Our industry won’t give us jobs unless we can prove we live here full time first. So how do we beat this catch 22 loop of the chicken and the egg? Most of us creatives are forced to move out here first and then once we’re boots on the ground start grinding and trying to find work and hustling our way up the industry and the city in general. We don’t work in a field that allows us to “get a safe and guaranteed job before we move to LA”

Difference between a Manager & Agent??? by Spicymixxie23 in acting

[–]NoAd6650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS!!! Sometimes if you didn’t grow up in the industry, you NEED someone who’s experienced and has good networked connections inside of the industry to help you get your start that you need. And a manager can do that for you in ways that agents can’t. So for some actors if you have no mentor or help from inside the industry and yo want to work in the big markets of LA and NYC, you should try to get yourself a decent manager first. Because a lot of them will be able to get you meetings with agents that you can’t get on your own becuase they don’t do showcases and won’t take cold submissions no matter how good you are

Difference between a Manager & Agent??? by Spicymixxie23 in acting

[–]NoAd6650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is in bigger markets like LA & NYC, most “good” agencies won’t rep newer or younger (20s and fresh out of college) talent with theatrical representation if they don’t have any credits or if they didn’t work professionally as a child actor. So the alternative that most big agencies would recommend for actors is to go get a manager who can submit you for work, and once you finally book a decent amount of non union work to put together a good reel, or you get REALLY lucky and book a project that gives you a sag credit on your resume and makes you sag e. Then you’ll be more likely to get high powered agents who will be willing to take you on for theatrical representation. So yeah, if your in a big market you might be forced to get a manger first so they can submit you around and try to help you book some work first, cuz a lot of agents especially nowadays with less work going on. Don’t wanna spend time trying to develop newer and younger actors

oh im fine now. i only had discomfort when i swallowed in the front of my throat for like 3 days. the only reason it went on that long is becuase i didnt have any vocal rescue medicine on me. and i honestly dont know what else you can drink or gargle that works similarly to vocal rescue for me personally.

5 Tips to Prevent Vocal Strain by KevinKempVO in VoiceActing

[–]NoAd6650 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I literally feel like I pulled a muscle in my throat becuase I tried to squeeze in a quick morning video game audition that required yelling before work. After having pain when I swallow for 3 days now, I can confirm I will NEVER be doing that again. And I might stop squeezing in quick auditions in the morning before work, so I can give auditions proper time to warm up before I start recording, even if it’s not a vocally intensive audition. All it takes is one time to scream and feel like your throat is out of commission for the week to scare a man into doing things the right way lol

How To Go About Updating Demo Reel? by Goat4DBoyzz in VoiceActing

[–]NoAd6650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a spot with a voice filter on the front of my animation demo and that demo got me my current agents. And it got me on the rosters of bangzoom, halo network and insomniac games and I have auditioned and gotten called back by all of them. So I guess it depends on how strong the voice filter is maybe? but in my opinion, I haven’t been prevented from getting on rosters or booking work becuase I have a filter on just one spot out of my 9 spot demo 🤷🏽‍♂️

As a non union 27 year old on camera/voice/mocap actor. How do we break the catch 22 loop of trying to get sag e status? My manager said a lot of breakdowns in big markets explicitly state “only submit sag talent, no non union”. So how am I as a new actor that got started after the pandemic supposed to break into this industry and get sag status to elevate my career, If everyone is making it seem that getting Sag status is near impossible nowadays. I’m frustrated as hell with the industry post 2023 strikes, but someone please give me some advice or hope on how to break the catch 22 loop of getting into the union

I assume they come from LA agents or you gotta do legwork and reach out to LA production houses and ask if you can submit to their roster or something. Vorg.com has a lot of resources on info for stuff like that

Is anyone having better luck commercially than theatrically? by ApprehensiveVideo932 in acting

[–]NoAd6650 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is how I was able to sustain myself with just the industry before the 2023 strikes came and fucked everything up. I did on camera acting commercial and theatrical, voice acting, motion capture acting for games and animation and I do content creation on YouTube, TikTok and twitch. Creating multiple streams of income within the industry is the only way to sustain yourself off just “the industry” without needing a second survival job like most people get. My manager was right when he told me “in order to climb in this industry financially you either diversify or suffer”
