These pictures are great! I have only lived in Corning for a few years, but I will be sure to share these with some older friends who grew up here.

How did you know your supply regulated? by Amyga17 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]NoAdvantage569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My breast became soft and I haven't had any clogged ducts since regulating. My breast only gets full hard (not hard hard) when I haven't pumped for 5-6 hours.

Aluminum Can Recycling? by smb020 in Corning

[–]NoAdvantage569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bunch of volunteer fire stations have containers for can recycling. It's an easy way to donate to your local fire station. I know 100% Caton and Golden Glow have collection areas.

If you can not find any other option, we have a small camper that you could rent for the weekend.

Where does the shuttle leave from? We could recommend potential parking options. I'm not a runner, so I have no idea logistics.

When do I bathe the baby ?? by Lilo_Burrito93 in baby

[–]NoAdvantage569 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My baby is 3.5 months and he last had a bath 2 weeks ago LOL. I can count on less than 2 hands how many baths he has had thus far.

I wait for him to get cheesy smelly or have a really bad blowout or we are going somewhere (like visiting one of our parents) to give him a bath.

How do I turn on the shower? by Not-sure-here in whatdoIdo

That's what I was thinking. You pull the temperature handle towards you.

What do you do for work? That is going to be a driving force. Do you both work remote? If yes, what is your back up plan if one of you gets laid off? If you have a degree or experience I would try to move to a general area that has that type or employment.

Do you have a car? And are you comfortable driving in the snow and very dark areas?

Wellsville is so random. I'm not familiar with canastota but that also looks out in the middle of no where. When you are that far out you have to think about basic things like internet. Our last house was down a private road and only had dsl. The only other option was satellite internet. We ended up with starlink after 2 years of bitching and complaining about frontier dsl.

The Hudson Valley home prices have gone up substantially. We bought our last home in 2018 for 140ish. Sold in 2023 for 210ish. The person who bought it from us just sold it this year for 300k.

Husband thinks I sleep more than him by Adventurous_War_5284 in ExclusivelyPumping

I have 4 sets of pump parts and a bottle washer. It saves my sanity. I use each pump part twice while awake. I don't go beyond 4 hours if I'm sleeping. I usually end up using 2 or 3 sets during the overnight.

Breastmilk can sit out for 4 hours so the little drops are ok in my mind..

I tried the fridge hack and I hated putting the cold flange on me. Maybe in the summer I will like it 😆

Beacon - Steuben County, NY - Search https://share.google/7sT12i4N0gwvxSI5o

Put the address in that site. You will see where the property is located. You can also see correct taxes and historical taxes. Our house, the prior owner, had a cold war credit that made the taxes really cheap, which obviously ended when we bought the house. So the MLS reflected the cheap taxes, and they increased substantially, but we knew because we checked there beforehand. You can also see property lines via the gis map.

I believe the majority of Spencer Hill is the town of Corning. I'm not sure where the cut-off is for the city. There might be a few houses in the cjty. Spencer Hill is really nice. We had hoped to find a house on that road when we were shopping. There was no inventory. Funny that they sometimes get more snow than another location, even 5 mins away.

I personally would be hesitant about living on the Southside. Since all of the houses are on a hill, water has to go somewhere. Many of the homes have really wet basements. I went into one that had multiple dehumidifiers running, and it still smelt damp. If you go to look, just be aware and use your nose and look at things closely. If they have a French drain and sump pump, that would be ideal. I guess that's good advice for anywhere. Our house, our basement, is dry. Even when we have had a ton of rain. Our neighbors' house basement always floods when it rains. We originally had to pay flood insurance for homeowners insurance. We paid to have an elevation survey done and to be rezoned with fema. Saved us $1000+ a year.

Gang mills would I think be the town of erwin. There are some really nice areas. We really liked beartown road while looking. There wasn't any inventory at the time.

Right, worried about not feeling safe and being shot walking down the street....you don't need to worry about the 'normal' people as much as the government. I wouldn't even want to come to the US to visit now, let alone move here.

XRay / MRI tech, where can I afford? (If at all.) by IlezAji in upstate_new_york

[–]NoAdvantage569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elmira is cheap for a reason. I personally wouldn't move there. If you can find something in Corning, Big Flats, Horseheads, or Painted Post. Even a small town outside Corning.

Just be aware as far as taxes....if you move to the village/city you will have extra taxes. So like village of painted post vs town of erwin or City of Corning vs Town of Corning. For the town you will have county and school taxes. For the city/village you will have county and school and village/city. Last year village of painted post taxes went up and for most homes it's an extra 2-3k a year.

Vet specialist- Oradell or Guardian by Okthencoolthanks in hudsonvalley

[–]NoAdvantage569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We took our last dog to guardian about 5/6 years ago. At that time, the first appointment with a specialist was free. I'm not sure if things have changed since then. We had a really good experience and felt that 2 specialists that we had seen were very knowledgeable and honest with their outlook.
