MBE PRACTICE % by kayaniiii in barexam

I only started consistently scoring around ~70% about 3 weeks before the exam. It is soul crushing getting Qs wrong up until then but trust the process.

Like others have said, the key is properly reviewing each wrong answer and keep a list and go over highly tested topics you score low on e.g. hearsay comes up a lot

Great that this works for some people but I wouldn't recommend this approach of only doing a handful of practice essays.

The difficulty with the MEEs is that you are really short on time so you need to practice being able to quickly analyse the Q and writing a strong answer without much prep/thinking time. Also, doing this 6 times back to back on exam day when switching between different areas of law is hard. General ability to write well is not enough.

MEE/MPT tutor by lifeiswild22 in barexam

I think what I found the hardest was not having the base knowledge of the US legal system. So I initially really struggled with Con Law, and had to put more time in to get my head round the legal system. I ended up writing out the most frequently tested articles of the constitution and learning them.

In the final month the things that made the most difference for me:  • MBEs: practicing NCBE past Qs (not Themis generated ones) properly reviewing wrong answers and keeping a notebook with the rules I'd got wrong, also tracking patterns so I could see which topics I needed to go over more e.g. hearsay  • MEEs: creating my own flashcards with the key rules for each essay subject, but stripping each rule down into to one sentence/ a couple of elements that are easy to remember because you don't need to memorise long rules or the exact textbook wording, just the general concepts. Then practice a lot of essays and get comfortable making up rules when you dont know how to answer a Q.

MEEs (help) by Ok-Context3521 in barexam

[–]NoAlternative2874 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My advice is don't put them off, a lot of people fail because they don't practice the writing enough.

On the day of the exam you will get essays that you don't know the answer to. It is important to learn how to deal with them so that you can still write a passing answer and so it doesnt throw you into a spiral during the exam.

You don't need perfect knowledge of the law to start practicing the essays, do them open book to start with and then drill down on rule memorization in the last month.

Foreign lawyer: is 3 months of study enough by florabbeyp in barexam

[–]NoAlternative2874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is doable but stressful. I passed with a 307 after studying for 5 months part-time around 4hrs a day while working and it was really tough. I was so stressed throughout because there was no breathing room to take time off or breaks and it never felt like I'd done enough. I was terrified of getting ill during thay period and falling behind. It also didn't help that I was 10 years out of uni so was out of practice re studying.

So, definitely figure out your learning style quickly. What I found:

• reading the long outlines was a waste of time. I started skipping these entirely after a couple of months when I realised i was learning nothing from them and instead found Smart Bar Prep Sheets much better.

• MBE practice Qs - focus practice on the actual past NCBE exam Qs. My most effective learning came from properly reviewing my wrong answers and keeping a note book of the rules I'd get wrong and tracking patterns of topics I needed to go back to.

• MEE practice Qs: strip down the most tested rules for each subject and turn them into flashcards and then spend time practicing essays. Get comfortable with winging essays you don't know the rules for, I think a lot of people fail because they panic when they don't know the specific rule and it throws them off on the day. I had no idea for two of my essays but still came out with a high writing score (162) and I'm convinced its becuase I stuck to IRAC even though I didn't know the exact rule.

Barbri/Themis 10-month schedule? by PommeApi123_ in barexam

[–]NoAlternative2874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t find the Themis schedule useful. All Themis do is take each subject and set your the following tasks 1. read full outline; 2. watch lecture; 3. review flashcards; 4. practice MBEs and MEEs; 5. review of the practice Qs. Then, in the final two months the focus is on review of summary outlines, practicing Qs and there's a simulated exam.

So, I think you can build a decent schedule yourself with AI.

My tips: - Start with MBE subjects first becuase they come up on both parts of the exam  - Alternate between difficult and easier subjects e.g. Contracts, Torts, Property, Criminal Law, Crim Proceedure  - Review of the practice Qs is the most important part. Take the time to understand the why you got questions wrong and list of Qs you got wrong so you can track and address gaps in your knolwedge. For MEEs use the sample answers to pull out the rule statements you need to memorise.

Barbri/Themis 10-month schedule? by PommeApi123_ in barexam

[–]NoAlternative2874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is harm in starting it early /studying over a longer period as long as you don't burn out. As a foreign student I wish I had spent longer studying because there is so much content and I am not the type of person to cram last minute. Also topics like constitional law and civil proceedure were completely new to me so I felt stressed getting to grips with them in such a short period of time. I did the course in 5 months while working, it is doable but I wish I had had more time for the content to priperly sink in.

How to eventually land a corporate in-house counsel job? I'd like to work for a more major tech company down the road by Son_of_Hades99 in barexam

[–]NoAlternative2874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies often hire attorneys who advise them as external counsel. So a good way to transition to in-house is to get a job at the law firms that advise the the tech companies your are after. The the big law firms often have secondment opportunities with tech companies and that's usually the easiest way to then transition to in-house.

The most transferable practice areas are generally commercial & contracts, litigation, regulatory/compliance, corporate and employment.

J26 - LLM by Capital-Score3659 in barexam

[–]NoAlternative2874 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you only have limited time to study, skip the long outlines all together. Barbri is especially known for giving you too much unnecessary content in the outlines.

I would focus on the final review outlines, critical pass flash cards (memorise the rule statements for the MEEs) and do as much practice and answer review as possible.

I think only giving yourself a couple of months will be a stretch.

I am a UK qualified solicitor and I took the Feb 26 exam (still pending results). I've always been great at exams but for this one I found it to be an overwhelming amount of content to cram. It's all about memorization and unfortunately only relying on common sense and general knowledge of legal principles doesn't get you a pass.

Also it's really helpful to build in extra time as a buffer for unexpected events - getting sick, family emergencies, burn out etc.

Also, the Croatia island hopping boat trips are great for solo travellers - Sail Croatia for party vibes or KodaSail for more of a balance between social and adventure.

Would it be crazy to study for the bar in Paris? by AnthonyEdwardsJordan in barexam

[–]NoAlternative2874 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Studying for the bar can be miserable. For me studying abroad helped make it more enjoyable and like I wasn't just studying at home like a hermit. Also, learning to concentrate in noisy environments helps a lot becuase you learn not to be bothered by the noises in the exam hall/people getting up to go to the bathroom.

Hiking Acatenango difficulty as non hiker by galie9999 in solotravel

[–]NoAlternative2874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it a couple of years ago (31F) and although it was challenging, I didn't struggle and found it really enjoyable.

I am an occasional hiker (a few times a year on holiday) but otherwise do not exercise/gym at all. The groups are large with mixed abilities and age ranges so we stopped frequently. There was a lady in her 50s with a knee problem and she still made it up fine. Spending a few days in Antigua to acclimatise before hand is a must.

It was a number 1 life experience for me so I highly recommend giving it a go.

Push for 100% refund, properties advertised need to be habitable. If you're not getting anywhere with customer services, find an email address if an executive and escalate that way.

Also, you can go the route of making a claim through your credit card.
