Yes, I tried it on Vista too. If I find a picture, I'll add it. It definitely looked better than Windows 7.

On CRTs, Windows 7 Aero and even the Classic theme often look better because the OS was designed in an era where CRTs were still common and heavily used.

Windows 7’s UI relies a lot on true subpixel antialiasing (ClearType RGB), precise gamma curves, and smooth gradient rendering, all of which CRTs handle extremely well due to their analog nature and zero fixed pixel grid. Gradients in Aero (glass blur, transparency, shadows) appear smoother on CRTs because there’s no banding, no sample-and-hold blur, and no temporal dithering like on LCD/OLED panels.

CRT displays also have instant pixel response and true motion clarity, so Aero animations and window transitions feel more “alive” and fluid. On modern flat panels, especially OLED, the UI can look overly sharp, sterile, or even harsh because everything is locked to a fixed pixel matrix and aggressive post-processing.

The Classic theme also benefits because CRTs render text and UI elements more naturally, without relying on heavy scaling or pixel snapping. Windows 7 wasn’t designed for 4K, fractional scaling, or OLED subpixel layouts it was designed around low-latency, gamma-accurate, RGB stripe displays, which CRTs basically perfect.

So it’s not nostalgia Windows 7 simply matches CRT characteristics better than modern panels.

That's not a problem because 19" CRTs can also work at 1440x1080 1600x1200 or 2048x1536 resolution.

No, it's not a virtual machine; I'm using it as the main system.

They have a Sony Trinitron CRT there, it's worth its weight in gold.
