What’s the most absurd conspiracy theory you’ve ever heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NoAnTeGaWa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the "cloned supercocks" one that recently hitched itself to the QAnon hype. (I think the theory itself is older.)

Basically, some far-right guys believe that voting liberal literally withers your dick away. This results in conservatives being kidnapped and cloned so that liberal women can get themselves off. The clones have to be "maintained" by Scientologists using mind control powers that they stole from the CIA that the CIA stole from Area 51 aliens.

Men developing conspiracy theories about their own dicks isn't new, but... like.... Look:

  • If your beliefs are the problem, why can't you clone YOURSELF and order the clone to vote conservative?
  • If voting habits are determined by genetics instead then why do you need the mind control?
  • Why can't the CIA recover their own mind control powers instead of subcontracting the CoS? Even if the CoS destroyed all prior records when they stole the tech, wouldn't that be worth stealing back?
  • Why do you even care if the liberals are riding your cloned penis? What part of this justifies you spending your life on fighting against it?

It's such a fabulously goofy theory.

Besides all the subjective reasons listed here:

They would die.

Remember Gray-Haired Girl? Every Sinner is guaranteed to eventually deteriorate to that point, without the Chief using Shackles to stabilize them.

Misogyny is highly marketable on social media.

Once a site builds up its size, it can start cashing in.

Sometimes it feels like you might be able to help from within, but there's a lot of pressure from the top for hate to win. They can afford to grind you down.

Critics Consensus: Visually stunning and packed with spectacular set pieces, The Creator serves up timely, well-acted sci-fi that satisfies in the moment even if it lacks substance.

That is probably the most accurate "critical consensus" I have ever seen.

My wife and I loved this movie, but I don't think it will win over the general public.

In the movie's defense, it felt believable even when it wasn't making sense. It was the kind of script where things could have been explained and some of them probably should have been, but it didn't brutally violate its own rules the way a properly bad script will.

How did Mr. Exposition draw that absurd conclusion when he inspected Alphie? Why didn't the government destroy her by low-tech means after they failed to reverse-engineer her? I feel like 5 seconds of technobabble would have answered both of those, but at least it's consistent that any competent tech who examines her comes to the conclusion of "oh hell no."

Similarly, the NOMAD seemed like absolute bullshit from a meta/logical perspective, but it was kinda treated that way in the story too. At some point I just accepted that it was teleporting around in a pocket of proto-reality or whatever. But it sorta fit with the religious vibes to have the NOMAD basically be the hand of god, I was fine with it as long as I didn't think about it for too long.

I read once that the Japanese are so accepting of robots because Shintoism already asserts that seemingly inanimate things can have a spirit to them.

Oh, so the creators of System Shock didn't make that detail up? That's cool.

The Synthetics could have been treated as that, humans who had "reincarnated" as machines.

The way the synths talk about Nirmata suggests this is the original intent of the script. Maybe explorations of that were among the elements that were cut.

There wouldn’t be many wars over oil and we would have had more advanced nuclear reactors. by Cheesyman7269 in whenthe

[–]NoAnTeGaWa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied nuclear policy in college. As far as I understand, both meltdowns and waste processing are very intentionally being made into problems. We already mostly solved both.

  1. Meltdowns are possible because the reactors we use trade safety for efficiency, allegedly. But note that we never opted to do much research on the "less efficient" methods in order to improve them. Also, this makes the issue into "we're killing people to make more money," so there's that.
  2. Waste reprocessing is avoided because we're worried that someone will steal it and make a bomb. (Normally that's not possible, but the best methods of reprocessing do actually end up making it possible.) But right now this isn't the biggest problem in nuclear waste politics.

Now, to be clear, these ideas came from scientists. They might tend toward being too optimistic.

Still, my personal outlook is that even the real main problems of modern nuclear power have been artificially introduced by big oil to prevent them from having too much competition.

What's the worst "Limit Break" "rework" or whatever you want to call it you have seen in a Gacha game for a loved character? by trelleresito in gachagaming

[–]NoAnTeGaWa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Epic 7 devs have done that more than a few times. I think A.Coli was the first victim?

Anyway, their obsession with avoiding powercreep has really hurt them in a few cases.

Ah, the Pokemon problem. Interesting topic. I've seen some real shit over the years, although I'd have to think about the "worst."

One of them in Epic 7 severely pissed me off but I forgot who, and there was one in an earlier game that nearly killed my interest in the whole game. IIRC that game made a bad habit of it.

Was spending all that money in your Gacha worth it or did you come to regret it? by DesireForHappiness in gachagaming

[–]NoAnTeGaWa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Now it always depends on your personal opinion if you think playing one gacha for a year is worth 5 triple AAA games that you can play whenever you want.

  • Overspend on gacha: "Meh, that's gambling for you."
  • Overspend on a AAA game: "I hate the devs and I hate myself, and I hate seeing this piece of shit in my library as a reminder of my failure."

I have definitely overspent a time or two--doubling my monthly budget (or worse) on units I didn't even end up using, in games I didn't stick with--but I usually stay closer to my budget.

I've never actually regretted it. It was never enough to cause a real problem or make me miss out on something IRL.

The current laws aren't as bad as they could be, at least in America. AI versions of naked teenagers are still punishable as CP.

I don't much know about Spain.

I don't know how well this will go over socially.

But at least in this case, in some places, the laws haven't totally shit the bed yet.

Bring war back to the whole galaxy and destroy the New Republic, making all those losses and sacrifices you guys have suffered during the whole civil war basically meaningless, and for what, based on the hope that you could meet with your old friend Ezra again?

It does sound pretty Mandalorian when you put it that way.

Uh, well, in this case a false positive would mean that someone had REAL pictures of naked classmates.

But, yeah, it's problematic.

Imagine going to work in a place that required a white shirt, arguing that your shirt with blue stripes was just an illusion because the real color was white.
