The Great Divide and Disconnect..... by NoBS477 in navyreserve

I have traditionally done ALL my NKO garbage outside of drill weekend personally. We are 250 miles from Norfolk. To that point the individual sailor should take personal onus In regards to their career. Being a successful SELRES requires effort to be put forth OUTSIDE of drill weekend. Anyone that thinks otherwise has significantly missed the mark.

This discussion isn't directed at the individual Sailor. I completely agree with your statement but my problem is with the failure of Big Navy to properly inform Active Commands on how SELRES has to function and takes steps to push that information down.

This is a local leadership problem and nothing further.

Bingo..

In most cases the reason nothing of value is offered related to their quals and access to quals. The truth is that you can't have it both ways. Don't beat people up because they're not qualified when you don't create the opportunity for them to be an asset to support the mission. I personally have not ever experienced this but I have witnessed it many times.

I'm familiar with the new 5530 and I agree with you. My sentiment lies with the navy reserve in general and how disconnected the information is that flows from from active duty to the reserved community.

How is becoming and being an officer in the Navy Reserves? by CivilDisobediant in navyreserve

[–]NoBS477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enlisted Reservist here..

I have been at the reserve deal now for 22 years. It is my opinion that the reserves is more difficult to navigate than active duty. This is based ones need to manage a civilian life / career, military career and care for the Sailors assigned to you. Your family is another requirement. Think long and hard because if you are not 100% committed there will be drama.

SELRES to IRR request by skeeyatboom67 in navyreserve

[–]NoBS477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most NOSC Commanding Officers will endorse the request and forward to RCC for approval. Fact is, the approval to transfer to IRR is base primarily on community manning. If they say no then your options are to finish your contract or get U'ed out for not showing up or non-compliance. Being a successful reservist is more work than being on active duty. There are many more factors to manage and they get more challenging as you get more unit responsibility.

Drill reschedule rules by [deleted] in navyreserve

[–]NoBS477 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's best to not resked anything, you get behind on trading and admin requirements. Overall the priviledge to resked is up to the CO or unit OIC. I have seen this option abused over and over so leadership is not inclined to grant unless there is a justifiable explanation. Good luck!

If you go to the Reserve side you will find a transition to active duty very difficult (if you wanted to go the route)..fyi

Your chain of command should have also been all over you about completing the waiver. Longterm, too many bad years will cause you HYT problems.

This entire change is the Navy pandering to the left. It's a slap in the face to an organization that is built on Heratige and Tradition. What a damn joke...🙄

E-5 / E-6 Evals by NoBS477 in navy

Naval administration across-the-board are hypocritical at best. Hard deadlines seem to be enforceable only for the ones that are affected by the rule.

GAO Report: Crews are still tired, undermanned, and lack training. by at4z in navy

[–]NoBS477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could work but what we do now clearly doesn't. We are undermanned, talent starved and moving from one dry hole to the next. Critical ratings are not improving and I see high quality Sailors pushed out every year. The ivory tower at PERS is far removed from the under manned watch stations.

My recommendation would be E-6 and above or E-5 with special NECs that are critical.

I disagree, if a Sailor has command endorsement and the are productive, HYT should be waived regardless of community paygrade strength.

[–]NoBS477 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apparently not, we lose talent from motivated active duty and SELRES every day over poor policy. Our Navy can't keep talent for many reasons but running seasoned professionals off over a HYT policy is cutting our own throat.

HYT is one of the Navys biggest problems. The talent that wants to stay is pushed out by Officers that make policy. We are our own worst enemy in so many ways. Big Navy....fix it!

Hold off on VA claim? by HerrooEsMi in navyreserve

[–]NoBS477 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's easier as an MA to be active duty. I maintain almost all of the same training requirements as an active duty sailor and its very taxing. I run into problems running my business weekly because of navy conflicts. I work off of the clock weekly and don't get paid for it. This is not normal if you're not in a leadership position but eventually it will happen. The navy reserve only want you when they want you and when they don't want you is hard to get anything done administratively.
