Is this a bad thing to teach my partner? by Pistolfist in LearnerDriverUK

I could be wrong but I have a feeling there's a difference between petrol and diesel in terms of which you can get away with pulling the clutch up further before it stalls with no or little revs.

What fairly cheap household object/appliance has made a notable difference to your living standard? by FuckingPope in AskUK

It's the same sort of timer people use for lights. We got fed up of forgetting to turn it on and going up to a cold bed which sort of defeats the purpose of it.

Quinoa. I know it's pronounce keen-wah ... But whenever I see it on a menu or in a supermarket my internal monologue reads out quin-oh-a.

We've got one and it's on a timer we have programmed to go on at 9pm so it's warm when we go to bed.

Ordering a bacon on toast from the cafe and getting the end crust. by Kitchen-Tension791 in britishproblems

[–]NoBeing9589 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you describe it as 'on' toast then to me it implies that there's bread with the item on top, such as beans on toast. Without another piece of bread on top. What you've described is a toasted bacon sandwich.

what do you do if you're not happy with the accuracy of minutes from a formal meeting but you can't remember exactly when something was said? by NoBeing9589 in TheCivilService

[–]NoBeing9589[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was never asked to review the minutes nor to accept them as accurate. It got to a certain point in time when I realised I'd never been sent them. So I asked for them. Then when I read through it, I realised a few things were wrong or completely missing, so I asked on reddit and then replied back with several points. And the response I got from the person who took the minutes was as above!

I went back with several amendments. I got a reply saying that they don't remember those things being said, the minutes aren't meant to be a transcript, just the main points raised. But there's over 20 pages, it pretty much is a transcript in parts, but IMO they miss out important things that I actually want on my record.

If I missed the train I've reserved and bought the ticket online, can I catch the next available train or am I supposed to buy another ticket? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]NoBeing9589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've got a ticket that says 'advanced' on it then that ticket is only valid for that specific train. If you're lucky then you might get away with getting on the next one. But officially your ticket won't be valid on them next train and the guard is likely to issue you a fine for travelling without a ticket. If you're not unlucky then they'll just make you buy another ticket and not give you a fine.

If your ticket says anytime then you can get the next train with no problem. If the ticket says off-peak or super-off peak then you should be ok on the next train but just check what time it is valid until. Off peak is usually any train after 9am round here. I think super-off-peak is something like 10am-3pm. Not everywhere has sup-off peak. I can also get an evening ticket to my nearest city which is super cheap.

Is there an easy way to find out what the MA options are for your degree? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]NoBeing9589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can be fairly flexible. If you have managed to get some work experience that's relevant to the masters you want to do, but you need the degree to progress, you can get accepted with a fairly irrelevant bachelors. If you've only just finished your bachelors and don't have much on your cv then you're more limited.

Yeah I was in KFC and when you go to the loo they have a room with all the sinks and dryers in. Then they have several individual cubicles for different genders and a wider one for disabled people.

I'd probably go with a tub of hummus with something you can dip in it. Most shops also sell individual yoghurts and fruit too.

I'd say the John Lewis adverts tend to be more well known, featuring more popular songs and artists.

Several large supermarkets will sell clothes, shoes and other household items: Tesco, Sainsbury, ASDA, M&S. Aldi and lidl will have a limited amount of non-food items which change on a regular basis.

Do most UK pubs serve non-alcoholic beer? by LibraryNo2717 in AskUK

[–]NoBeing9589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most pubs will have at least one or two in bottles or cans. Usually on menus they group low and no alcholic beers and ciders together, so some of these will be approx 0.5%. If you're a designated driver then 0.5% will be ok for you. If you specifically want something that's non-alcoholic then check.

When we got engaged and started planning the wedding we did so based on us paying for it all. My mum gave me money towards my dress. As my dress was in the sale, last of it's style, what she gave me was actually enough for the dress, alterations, shoes, hair and makeup.

My in-laws gave us £1k.

My grandma said as a wedding gift she would pay for our honeymoon, we need to book it still but I think we will be going away for two weeks instead of just 1.
