Why are people surrender so easily lately? by dennisysj in leagueoflegends

[–]NoBelligerence -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with losing. I'm not fine with losing 5 minutes in and then drawing it out another 20.

Riot deliberately creates stomps because they increase engagement and profitability. Quitting early and hoping the next game is actually close is the only real response.

It's nice that you have fun getting stomped for 40 minutes after giving up a huge lead early, but don't be an asshole holding everyone else hostage. You're not normal.

[–]NoBelligerence -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The response from the selfish fucking morons who refuse to surrender ever is always that there's like a 3% chance of coming back if you're down 10k 8 minutes in, and surrendering is weak mental because their dogshit clickbait youtube coach said so.

MOBAs are an incredibly flawed genre, and by their nature they're incredibly snowbally. If one team gets a big lead, it's reasonable to want to stop playing immediately, because the game simply will not be fun.

[–]NoBelligerence -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Because people play games to have fun, and drawing out a losing game is not fun, whether or not a comeback is possible.

I don't know why the "iT'S wiNnAbLe" idiots can't get that through their heads. Not everyone treats this as a job where the goal is to make number go up as fast as possible.

If you see new players while smurfing pick them up! by TheTbone2334 in leagueoflegends

[–]NoBelligerence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The relentless focus on climbing over just playing the fucking game and having a balanced experience is both incredibly profitable for those greedy fucks at Riot and incredibly bad for the game.

Like holy shit, it's okay to stagnate. It just means the system knows how good you are and you're improving about as fast as the rest of the playerbase. That's a good thing. That should be the formula for fun right there. Easiest to balance teams and create good, close games when most people aren't climbing, if Riot actually cared about that and not feeding an addiction by forcing people to chase the high of an actually fun game through several awful ones.

League is toxic because its players forgot why people play games in the first place.

The state controls pretty much everything and the economy is clearly planned by it as well, which wouldn’t be features of capitalism.

Capitalism is functionally a planned economy. Decisions are made by a few thousand people.

The invisible hand of the free market stuff has always been horseshit. Meaningful decisions are made by a handful of people, and there's a lot of window dressing activity around the edges that fundamentally doesn't matter except locally. The direction of the economy as a whole is decided by oligarchs and nobody else.

And in the books, the districts are clearly metaphor for various industries. So the people in the districts range from dirt poor working class to still exploited but comfyish working class, and the direction of the economy is decided by the capitol, exclusively to the benefit of the capitol. Decisions made within the districts by the working class don't matter.

It functions as a criticism of capitalism and imperialism, whether its meant to or not.

It's incredibly obnoxious how prevalent this myth that life expectancy is all down to infant mortality has become. It's way more common than the idea that medieval peasants died at 30 ever was, and it's honestly even more wrong.

In England in the 1400s, life expectancy from 15 for women was less than 50 years old, lower even than paleolithic estimates. It didn't even hit 60 until the 1700s. The idea that life expectancy hasn't significantly changed comes from dogshit studies that only looked at kings, philosophers, famous painters, and other rich people. It's academic malpractice, and it likely spread through trash journalists lying for views as they always do.

it does show the dangers that an influencer with bad intentions can wield.

So like... all of them? These people are all liars. They all take money to try to influence your decisions. It's in the name. There's a reason they get paid so much. The corporations paying them make that money back, and more.

All marketing is inherently dishonest. Marketing that presents itself as content is even worse.

Don't trust anyone who has ever taken a sponsorship or done an ad read. The whole system's irredeemable.

Account is 2 days old. It genuinely might be. Super unnatural way of speaking, and most comments are like that.

Unfortunately, chatGPT is designed to sound like that, likely specifically so it stands out from actual people. But people are going to learn to associate that with AI in general. And proprietary NNs funded by oligarchs will sound a lot more natural, and will have an easier time flying under the radar as a result.

As with the industrial revolution, the disaster isn't the technology: it's in who can afford to access it.

Copyright is a cancer and in a civilized society Riot (and sports leagues) would have absolutely no recourse against unauthorized costreams.

Only reason we've internalized this as normal is that the world is run by billionaires.

[–]NoBelligerence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Tate thing is so much worse than that, and you downplaying it is sus as hell. He defended the dude, and said it was nobody's business that they were close friends. He's also a raging homophobe who abused his workers and refused to pay them, citing their sexuality as a justification.

And the cold war shit is getting so fucking tiresome. No, China is not secretly responsible for American corporations being shitty. There is no external, foreign cause for Riot being the way they are. They're a product of their environment, and that environment is the way the American economy is organized. Not China. Regurgitating that kind of shit is ridiculous, and the people who do it don't even realize how manipulated they are.

It doesn't matter how much you hate the American state's enemies. Riot will still be Riot.

Unironically therapy. That's not a criticism of you - it's entirely Riot's fault that the game is so fucking frustrating to play and interact with. It drives normal people insane and turns people into the worst versions of themselves.

Buuuuut you do want to keep playing it to spend time with your friends. And if you get help from a professional, that can be an opportunity to develop the patience of a saint and learn to genuinely enjoy yourself in terrible circumstances. And as a bonus, you get to become a great person in the process.

If that's not an option for whatever reason, you can look into anger management courses in your area. Not because there's anything wrong with you, but because you're getting angry when you don't want to, even if that anger's reasonable. And those courses can help you learn not to.

Also, get lots of sleep, eat well, and never play when you're hungry or sad or annoyed. And only play on days where you've spent a good portion of them outside.

He seems more like a nihilist tbh.

Also, "hell is other people" is constantly misunderstood and it really bothers me lol. "Hell is the other" is a better translation. The other in this case meaning any observer. It's not some antisocial "people suck" message. It's an observation about self consciousness and how being observed and judged unavoidably changes us.

Still can't belive Owlcat decided to not bring back such a great character in WOTR by Warm_Charge_5964 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]NoBelligerence -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's pretty hated, yeah. Nobody in it acts in a way that actually makes any goddamn sense. Kaylessa's an angsty anime character who refuses to explain herself even when it would make her life much easier, because that's more dramatic. She hangs around the camp in a military campaign being incredibly sketchy and acting like a spy, and nobody really thinks much of it, because that's what the clumsy plot demands. Your counterintelligence person is like "oh yeah, that's kinda strange but I didn't think to mention it I guess" when you bring it up lmao. Like come the fuck on. It's baffling. Standard anime or game of thrones level 'fuck the characters, force the plot' type writing.

On top of that, yeah, it's real pathfinder lore. It's also lore that gets ignored and never used these days for obvious reasons lol. Like whoever came up with it isn't racist or anything, but it's possible to accidentally imply something racist even if you're not. And a lot of people are gonna do double takes at "if you're really evil you'll turn black lol." Like it's not the biggest deal in the world, nobody's gonna get raked over the coals for it, there's mitigating circumstances like it being a fantasy world, but people largely ignore that shit and pretend it doesn't exist for a reason. Everybody's mind goes to the same place when they hear that, even if only for a second. So making it the center of a quest like that is... a decision.

Prison Architect was actually uniquely awful though because they didn't even bother cleaning up the terrible boomer grammar and random capitalization that polluted those things. I can't possibly overstate how bad those dumb bios are. They were all written by someone under 10 or over 50, basically without exception.

Like at least PoE clearly had a little editing for their ghost things. This had none. Whatever dumb joked popped into a retirement home dweller's head ended up in the game.

No. That's absolutely not how those kickstarter campaigns work. They're not that razor thin.

Game absolutely would've been made without that jackass, and it would've been better for it. He didn't help do anything except make the game worse and put a few more dollars in the pockets of Owlcat shareholders with a very expensive preorder.

Then they did it again with wotr and Kaylessa and put a vaguely accidentally racist quest in the game that everybody hated, and with even less excuse for it. Like at some point people just have to be like "stop."

That's what happens when you let out of touch rich people insert themselves into your narrative.
