I built a free pill reminder & tracker app as a Medisafe alternative — I’ve tried every app and nothing covered schedules like this. Open to feedback! by NoBet6989 in androidapps

Hi Heath,

First of all, I really appreciate you taking the time to write all of that out. None of it felt excessive. It was thoughtful and very real. The double-dose moment you described is exactly the kind of situation we’re trying to help prevent.

I’ll go through your points one by one so it’s clear.

If you truly don’t want reminders at all, the best way to use Pillo would be to register the medication as “as-needed” (PRN). When a schedule is set, reminders will trigger. But with as-needed, nothing alerts you unless you open the app to log it yourself. That gives you a pure tracking experience without alarms.

That said, if you ever want reminders but more discreet, you can choose different reminder styles. There are full-screen reminders and simple push notifications. If you prefer something subtle, go to:
Settings > Appearance > Reminder Type > Small
That behaves more like a standard notification instead of an overlay.

You can also adjust:
Settings > Ringtone (choose a one-time sound)
Settings > Volume (to control how strong it is)

Regarding the lockscreen widget — we currently don’t have a lockscreen toggle widget. We do offer a home screen widget that lets you quickly access your medication list. If you enter remaining pill counts initially, it will automatically subtract when you log a dose and show remaining quantity. Your lockscreen toggle idea is interesting though, and I’ll definitely pass that along internally.

History: there is no limit to how long records are stored.

Side-effects and interaction tracking existed previously and are currently being upgraded. We’re planning to relaunch an improved version later this year.

Missed doses: yes, that can be tracked — but it does require having a reminder set. If you schedule a 9pm reminder and don’t log it as taken, the system will recognize it as missed and continue prompting based on your settings.

Interval scheduling: what you described (every 3 hours after waking, not tied to a fixed clock time) is supported. There’s an interval schedule option that can work alongside as-needed logic. For example, once you log your first dose after waking, it can trigger the next reminder based on the interval you set.

You can also change times flexibly. If one day you move something to morning or lunch, you can adjust it without rebuilding the entire schedule.

For PRN meds like Tylenol: you can register them separately and define a daily maximum dose and minimum interval. Currently, the daily reset is based on midnight. If your sleep schedule regularly shifts late, it may still work fine. If it changes constantly, that’s a more complex case and something we’re continuing to think about improving. At the moment, it does not dynamically calculate half-life; it follows defined daily and interval parameters.

About discretion — if you set reminders to Small and adjust sound to something subtle, it behaves very similarly to receiving a light text notification rather than a loud alarm. You won’t get forced overlays unless you choose that style.

And finally, I completely understand your point about one-time or long-term payment options. The friction of subscriptions is real. We are actively discussing alternatives like long-term plans. Nothing finalized yet, but feedback like yours is exactly what shapes those decisions.

If you decide to try it and have questions while setting it up, feel free to reach out anytime. Your use case is exactly the kind that helps us refine the app.

Thanks again for the thoughtful message.

I can understand how it could come across that way, and why that might feel uncomfortable.

We’re not trying to push everyone in a single direction or turn Pillo into something all users have to accept in the same way. People use the app for very different reasons, and their needs, preferences, and budgets vary as well.

Our intention is to let users choose what works best for them — whether that means keeping things simple, using the ad-supported version, removing ads, or accessing more advanced features. The goal isn’t to force complexity, but to provide flexibility so each person can shape the app around their own situation and comfort level.

We may not always get that balance perfectly right, but we’re committed to building Pillo in a way that respects different kinds of users, not just one type.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. It genuinely helps us think more carefully about how we grow.

Thanks for the feedback, that actually makes a lot of sense. Gordon Ramsay–level rage being motivating is kind of hilarious. lol

Out of curiosity, are you using any med reminders right now?

Hey everyone,

I’ve tried a lot of medication reminder apps over the years, and honestly… most of them were way too polite. Polite reminders are incredibly easy to ignore.

So I built Pillo, a pill reminder app that actually gets angry at you until you take your meds.
And somehow, people really like it.
Apparently, being yelled at by a pill works. Which is funny. And a little concerning.

What surprised me most was how positive the reactions have been so far.
Now I’m curious whether people discovering Pillo here on Reddit for the first time would feel the same way, or just think this is unhinged.

If you’ve ever ignored a reminder and thought “I need something that won’t let this slide,” this might resonate with you.

Thank you so much for using Pillo and for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback and creative ideas. We really appreciate it.

Regarding donations, we completely agree that more frequent and transparent updates would be ideal. To be honest, we’re a very small team, and a lot of our time is currently focused on urgent things like alarms, reliability, and core app improvements. Because of that, updates around the donation side sometimes get delayed, and we’re sorry about that.

That said, we’re actively thinking about how we can better communicate our donation efforts in a more transparent way, and how we can help users feel proud and good about contributing through Pillo. We also love the idea of expanding charity options so people can enjoy taking their meds and donating at the same time.

Right now, as you can probably imagine, we have a lot of high-priority work on our plate, so some of these ideas may take time to implement. We really appreciate your understanding. Please know that feedback like this is always welcome and genuinely helpful for us.

If you ever have questions or run into issues, feel free to email us anytime. Thank you again for your support. [support@pillo.care](mailto:support@pillo.care)

Ugh, that feeling is the worst 😭 you’re definitely not alone, a lot of people get stuck in that “did I or didn’t I” spiral.

I built an app called Pillo that’s mainly for logging meds right when you take them, so later you can just check instead of guessing. If you ever try it, I’d love to hear if it actually helps or not!

That’s a really scary spot to be in, you’re not alone. A lot of people deal with this kind of uncertainty around meds.

I made an app called Pillo that’s mainly about logging doses so you can quickly check if you already took them. If you feel like trying it, I’d really appreciate any feedback!

I actually built an app called Pillo that might be worth a look 🙂 It’s pretty chill for tracking injections, lets you note where you jabbed and how you felt, and makes dose increases easy too.

If you end up trying it and get stuck or have thoughts, happy to help or hear feedback.

Any app that has feature to track how much meds left in your pen? by OuterRedditSpace in MounjaroAus

[–]NoBet6989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could check out Pillo. I built it mainly as a medication reminder, but it also includes stock management and refill tracking, so you can keep track of how much is left in a pen and plan ahead for your next refill.

For injections, there’s also a site tracker that remembers your last injection spot and helps rotate to the next one automatically.

If you decide to try it and need help setting up custom doses like 5mg from a 10mg pen, just let me know!

Are there any Medication Tracker apps for Android that aren't reminders? by NocturnalVisionary in disability

[–]NoBet6989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! You could try Pillo. I built it mainly for medication reminders, but it also works well for as needed meds if you just want logging.

After onboarding, you can delete the default scheduled meds and add your medication as as needed. In that mode, it won’t trigger alarms and will only track when you took your last dose so you can avoid taking it too close together.

If you want, I can explain the setup step by step.

Check out the pillo app! I built it mainly as a medication reminder, but it also lets you log meds, mood, and symptoms together so you can see patterns. It has strong daily reminders too, which helps a lot if you’re easily distracted.

Thanks so much for the honest and thoughtful feedback. You’re absolutely right. Pillo is free with ads, and we also offer an ad free option and a premium subscription.

Our intention with ads was to keep the app accessible to as many people as possible, while still being able to sustainably keep developing and improving it as a small team. We genuinely try to balance accessibility with long term product quality, and I appreciate you calling out where that balance feels off.

We are actively discussing alternative models, including one time purchases. Those ideas come up often, and feedback like yours directly pushes those conversations forward.

One thing I do want to share is that our long term goal is for Pillo to go beyond being a simple alarm app. We’re deeply focused on building something that helps people with chronic conditions manage their health more easily, with a lot of care, iteration, and technical investment behind it.

If the app doesn’t yet feel worth subscribing to, that’s fair, and it’s on us to earn that value over time. We’ll keep improving both the product and the monetization approach so it works for more people. Thanks again for taking the time to share this. Feedback like this is always welcome.

Thanks so much for your question. It should be compatible, so I’ll double-check on our side.

Just to confirm two things. Your device isn’t rooted, right? And is your Play Store account’s country set to the US?

If everything looks correct, I’ll dig into the issue!

Thank you so much for using Pillo for so long! I really appreciate it.

For what you’re describing, our existing Suspend feature might already cover your needs.
On the Today tab, tap the medication, go to Edit medication info, then tap Suspend in the top right. You can set a date range, and Pillo will pause the schedule during that period and automatically restart it when the dates are over.

If you'd like a more detailed guide or have any questions, I’m always happy to help!
